Chapter 444 In What Capacity Are You Demanding This of Me?
Winona shook her head and said, "Not sure."
"You didn't get him drunk last night?" Rebecca griped to Winona, saying she had never seen such a sloppy proposal from Anthony, and he actually wanted to get married.
At that time, Winona was having dinner with Nicholas, so she didn't respond.
Winona said, "I did get him drunk. He was covered in injuries, and they were all fresh."
Rebecca said, "You think someone from the Ramsey family did that to him?"
If it was just to keep Winona from recognizing him, wouldn't removing a scar be enough? Did he really need to make himself look like that? His current identity was the youngest son of the Ramsey family. Even though the Ramsey family had been struggling for the past couple of years, they shouldn't be so broke that they couldn't afford to get a scar removed.
Suddenly, Anthony chimed in, "I know the people from the Ramsey family. They don't have the twisted hobby of beating people until they're covered in wounds."
On the contrary, they were pretty upright.
Anthony had finished his game and was walking over to them.
Winona asked, "Mr. Lewis, is Nicholas really the youngest son of the Ramsey family?"
Anthony had also heard that Nicholas and Zachary looked very similar, but he had never had the chance to see him in person.
Anthony thought for a moment and replied, "The Ramsey family does have a young son, but he was said to be premature, with underdeveloped lungs, needing a very specific environment. Smog, exhaust fumes, factory emissions—anything could trigger his illness. So he was sent to the countryside to recover from a young age. But over the years, there hasn't been much news."
He naturally sat down next to Rebecca, reached over, and forked a piece of cantaloupe into his mouth. He asked, "Do you think Nicholas is Zachary?"
The strong presence of his robust physique made Rebecca instinctively straighten her back. Surrounded by his presence, she wanted to move aside but was afraid of interrupting their serious conversation, so she stiffened and stayed put.
Winona replied, "Yes."
Anthony was a shareholder of the Bailey Group and also a friend of Zachary. Before this matter was confirmed, Winona couldn't discuss it with Evander and the others, fearing that the shock might cause some unforeseen changes. But she also didn't plan to investigate it quietly on her own.
Her connections and resources definitely couldn't match Anthony's and Matthew's. If Samuel hadn't gone abroad for some business and couldn't return temporarily, she would have told him about it already.
Anthony frowned. He didn't believe there were two people in the world who looked exactly alike. Even with plastic surgery, it couldn't be identical. He asked, "Never thought about doing a DNA test?"
Winona responded, "I have, but I'm worried it might cause him trouble. If Nicholas is really Zachary and he's hiding his identity, there must be a good reason. If I do a DNA test now and blow his cover, there's no telling what the people backing him might do."
If he was so cautious that he preferred to disguise his identity rather than return to the Bailey family and use their power, it either meant there was a traitor or the opponent was formidable.
Winona continued, "Mr. Lewis, could you help me look into Timothy? He says he's Nicholas's childhood neighbor, but this guy... he seems a bit off."
Given Nicholas's character, he wouldn't make things up, let alone tell others he liked Winona. Otherwise, the phone conversation Winona overheard this afternoon wouldn't have been what it was.
However, Timothy specifically went to the Bailey Group to find Winona, claiming to see his future sister-in-law, but subtly inquired about what Nicholas had told her last night. It all seemed fishy.
Secretly calling her to let her listen to his conversation with Nicholas was something Fiona would do.
Could it be that Timothy had a crush on Nicholas? According to Timothy, Nicholas had been protecting him since childhood, so it was normal for him to develop some different feelings.
Anthony was lost in thought and didn't respond immediately. Rebecca, sensing the awkward silence, nudged him with her elbow while munching. She asked, "Can you check it out or not? Say something."
"Miss Davis, in what capacity are you asking me this?" Anthony asked.
Rebecca's eyes widened. "Why do you have so much to say when we ask you to do something?" she said.
Anthony looked at her and calmly asked, "Did you pay the lawyer's fee?"
Hearing this, Rebecca was filled with anger. If it weren't for her fear of Natalie, she would have kicked him out the door. She thought to herself, 'Want to pursue me? Maybe in your next life!'
Even if every man on earth disappeared, she still wouldn't marry Anthony. Otherwise, he might just drive her to an early grave.
Winona smiled and said, "Mr. Lewis, stop teasing Rebecca. Are you here to meet the parents today or to bicker with her?"
Anthony actually came today because his aunt had been bombarding him with phone calls since the morning, so he came specifically to explain to Natalie.
Although he didn't know why he was being scolded.
"She just refused me in front of her parents, saying that even if every man on earth disappeared, she wouldn't marry me."
Rebecca's eyes widened. "When did I ever say that?" she asked.
If she dared to say that in front of Natalie, Natalie would kill her.
Anthony replied, "Do you dare say you weren't thinking that just now?"
