Chapter 408 Prepared a Surprise

Frank stared at the shiny light pink diamond in the picture, lips pressed tight, not saying a word for what felt like forever.

Someone stepped out of the shadows and walked up to the group. "Mr. Turner, Miss Sullivan, time to board the ship."

Winona recognized the guy; it was Kyle's secretary. She'd seen him before in the ER when he came to help Eva with the paperwork.

Frank moved in front of Winona, face blank. "Leave her out of this. I'll go, but she stays."

"Mr. Turner..."

"She's right below. What's the difference if she boards or not?"

As long as they weren't at sea, Frank figured Zachary could protect her, especially with all those bodyguards around.

But out on the ocean? Anything could happen. One big wave and someone could go overboard. The sea didn't care about your money or power.

"Kyle's not on the ship. I'm just here to escort you. Miss Sullivan needs to come too," the secretary said with a smile. "Kyle just wants to talk terms. He won't hurt her. He just needs some leverage to make sure you listen."

However, no one was buying that.

Frank said, "No, she's not getting on that ship."

The secretary pulled a suit out of his bag and unfolded it. "This looks familiar?"

It was just an old men's suit, wrinkled and dusty. It had been stored so long the fabric was falling apart.

Frank's eyes narrowed at the sleeve. "Where'd you get this?"

This suit was a gift from Yara. He'd once torn the sleeve, and she had embroidered her name and a little drawing of a flying goose over the tear.

But one time, when he wore it back to The Turner Family, a servant accidentally spilled oil on it. After it was taken for cleaning, it disappeared. He searched for it for a long time but couldn't find it. At that time, he and Yara were deeply in love, so although he was reluctant, he thought there would be a second and third suit in the future, so he didn't continue searching.

He never expected what happened later.

The secretary said, "She didn't have to die, but she insisted on crashing the car."

Winona's face changed. "What do you mean?"

She had thought that finding evidence would send Kyle to prison, but now he was saying that it was all Yara's doing, that she had deliberately crashed the car.

Everyone knew the consequences of a car crashing into a truck. No one would have done that unless they were foolish.

The secretary shrugged. "This is what Kyle asked me to convey. I don't know the specifics. If Miss Sullivan is curious, please board the ship. Kyle is on that small island. You can ask him yourself."

He pointed behind him, but the sea was pitch black in the middle of the night. Even with the moon, the small island he mentioned was invisible.

Winona turned to look at Zachary.

He knew what she wanted to say just by looking at her eyes. He held her hand firmly and said, "I'll go with you."

Winona said, "You stay on shore. In case something goes wrong, you can..."

"I'll leave someone I trust on shore. It's totally safe," Zachary said, tightening his grip on her fingers. "I don't trust anyone else to protect you. To them, you're just a job, no matter how important you are."

Winona bit her lip, her eyes welling up. She instinctively lowered her head, not wanting him to see her cry. "Okay."

Zachary raised his hand to rub her hair. "Once this is over, we'll go back to Regal Oaks. I have a surprise for you."

"What surprise?"

"I told you, it's a surprise. I won't tell you."

Winona gave him a suspicious look. Knowing Zachary, it was probably more of a shock than a surprise.

Meanwhile, Frank had sent someone to check the ship. After confirming there were no dangerous items, he agreed to board.

Zachary brought two people with him, and Frank brought Rodolfo. The rest stayed on shore to respond, while others followed in a boat Zachary had arranged.

The secretary didn't stop them. He led them to the cabin. "It should take about two hours. You can rest for a while."

Then he left.

Frank frowned, looking out the window at the dark, choppy sea. The boat rocked, and the wind whistled through the window cracks, making eerie sounds. "I feel uneasy."

The other side didn't stop him from bringing people or his boat from following. What kind of confidence did they have?

If they weren't afraid of being caught, why go to such lengths and insist on discussing things on an island?

Zachary held Winona close. Her short-sleeved shirt offered little protection against the chill of the damp, salty sea breeze, making her shiver.

The boat's engine roared, as did the engines of the boats behind them. The more Zachary listened, the more something felt off. His brows furrowed. "I'll go take a look."

As soon as he stepped out of the cabin and headed for the deck, someone stopped him. "It's cold outside. We'll be there soon. Please rest inside."

Zachary squinted into the distance. They had arrived at midnight, and after some delay, the sky was starting to lighten. The surroundings were shrouded in a hazy dawn, revealing faint shadows.

On the sea, several boats identical in size and appearance were speeding towards them. Zachary quickly realized their plan.

The open sea made the boats like targets with nowhere to hide. But with several identical boats mixed in, it would be impossible to tell which one they were on without seeing the people. Once they scattered, it would be a perfect cover.

The guard stood on high alert, ready to intervene. However, Zachary paid him no mind and headed back inside.

He didn't need to say anything; Frank had already seen the situation through the window.

Zachary took out the life jackets he had prepared and handed one to each person. They were still near the coast, and fishing boats would be out at dawn, making it easy to be spotted.

"When the boats split up, go to the deck and wave something noticeable to signal our people to follow. If there's an emergency, take control. Don't worry about anything else."
