Chapter 25 You Sleep on the Couch
"Don't even say that he's interested in you, even if he is, he wouldn't want you. In New York, the women I reject have no one to take them."
Winona was furious at his words, turning around to glare at him, "If you feel that this reason damages your dignity, you can change it. Your wife sees you and feels nauseous, with no physiological response, unable to have a normal married life!"
"Winona..." Zachary's eyes suddenly filled with an intense anger, his teeth clenched as he called her name.
Afraid that he might do something outrageous in his anger, Winona deflated and softened her tone, "No matter what the reason, we will eventually part ways."
Thinking of the three years of torment in their marriage; living, thinking about how she greeted him with a smile every time, only to be met with indifference from the man. Thinking about the meals that were thrown into the trash without even being looked at, layers of grievances piled up and could not be suppressed.
Zachary looked at her with a calm expression, her eyes slightly red, but stubborn nonetheless.
His Adam's apple rolled, suddenly feeling annoyed. He closed his eyes and lay down. "Sleep."
Winona was being held by him, her face pressed against his chest. She could smell Zachary's scent in his breath. This was the first time he had held her while sleeping since they got married. Before that, they would sleep separately, with at least one person's distance between them.
The man had just showered, his body felt cool, but it soon heated up. Winona felt like she was holding a hot water bottle.
Being held like this made it uncomfortable for her to sleep. She struggled, wanting to turn over and face away from him.
Zachary frowned, raising his hoarse voice slightly. "Don't move, sleep."
Winona was getting hot and sweaty, but she didn't pay attention to the strange tone in his voice. "Don't hold me, it's uncomfortable..."
Her legs instinctively lifted, trying to push him away a little. But her knee accidentally touched something, and she froze instantly!
Zachary's voice was flat. "Mrs. Bailey, I'm just not interested in you, not that I can't perform in that aspect. If you keep moving, I'll take it as you inviting me. Though plain, still water can quench one's thirst when there are no choices left."
If Zachary's mouth were to be buried in some wilderness someday, it would surely be the cause of his death!
But Winona's gaze fell on the faint red mark on his neck. Its color had already faded, and it would probably be invisible by tomorrow.
"Why don't you go find the woman who left a mark on your neck, don't disgust me!"
Almost as soon as she finished speaking, Zachary's lips landed on her neck. It wasn't just a simple kiss, but a suck.
Winona winced in pain and forcefully pushed him away. "Zachary, have you gone mad?"
The man let go of her as he went along, "You've never been in a relationship before me, have you?"
Winona didn't know what he meant, but she gritted her teeth, "If I knew I would marry you, I would have changed partners every week."
She touched the spot he had kissed. This crazy person must have left a mark. It was summer now, and she wore low-cut clothes, there was no way to hide it.
Zachary chuckled, "You never had any experience in love, so let me teach you. This is what a hickey looks like. Don't have such dirty thoughts just because you see someone with a red mark on their neck."
Winona was taken aback, what did he mean? Wasn't the mark on his neck a hickey?
But regardless of whether it was or not, he shouldn't treat her like this.
Winona turned over and faced away from the man, ignoring him. She closed her eyes, forcing herself to sleep in a state of inexplicable anger.
Zachary looked at the woman's back facing him, and couldn't help but think that she was very soft. Just a light pinch would make her yield. The hot restlessness in his heart surged, but he suppressed the sudden desire and regulated his breathing...
The next day was the weekend. Winona and Zachary went to the hospital together to collect the Lydia's medical reports.
The doctor looked at the document, with a slight frown on his brow.
Winona had a foreboding feeling inside her and asked, "Doctor, is there something wrong?"
"Based on the test results, the patient has hypertensive heart disease caused by long-term hypertension. As for the frequent fever, it should be due to her weakened immune system from when she was young."
Winona grasped the key point, which was heart disease.
"Can it be treated?"
"Hypertensive heart disease is difficult to eliminate as it is caused by underlying factors. It can only be managed to slow down the progression of the disease. The patient should pay attention to their diet, engage in appropriate exercise, and most importantly, avoid emotional stress."
In other words, it was a chronic illness that required constant attention.
After leaving the hospital, Winona let out a sigh and checked the time. She wished it was Monday today, so she could go to the Civil Affairs Bureau.
"When are you going to get the marriage certificate with me?" she asked impatiently.
"Are you in such a rush?"
Wasn't it a matter that should have been done a long time ago? How was this rushing?
Winona clenched her teeth and held back her anger. She had reason to suspect that Zachary was intentionally dragging his feet. "I'm worried that Fiona can't wait. It was already hard enough for her to return from abroad. If you don't tie her down soon, she might run away again."
Zachary glanced at her coldly. "Only dogs need to be tied down."
"Aren't you two dog spouses?"
Of course, she didn't dare to say such words, fearing a backlash.
Soon, Brian drove over, and Zachary asked her to get in the car, but she remained rooted to the spot.
"I'll take a taxi back," Winona frowned. "One week is my bottom line. After all, we've been a couple for three years. I hope we can part on good terms without resorting to going to court and making it known to the whole city."
"Are you threatening me?" Zachary narrowed his eyes, his brows covered with a layer of icy disdain. "If I don't agree to a divorce, are you going to hire a lawyer to sue me?"
Winona didn't say anything, which was tantamount to accepting his statement.
The man sneered, "You left so many things at home, didn't you have the intention to come back anytime?" His impatience creased his brow. "Playing hard to get will only make people resentful."
Winona couldn't help but roll her eyes. How could he still have such thoughts at this point?
She couldn't hold back her sarcastic remark, "Zachary, have you always been so disgusting? If you don't want those things, just throw them away or burn them."
Zachary scoffed, "You're divorcing me, yet you want me to do things for you? Get rid of your pile of garbage and then we can discuss the divorce."
"Then have Calliope dispose of it."
Calliope was the maid at Regal Oaks, and she was definitely capable of handling garbage.
Zachary gave a fake smile, "Winona, you haven't paid a cent for the household expenses since we got married. Everyone's salary comes from my account. How dare you ask people I hired to do things for you?"
"Then I'll hire someone to move out."
"The people from the company are going to get it."
"I don't like outsiders running around in the house."
Winona's eyes twitched. "You're saying this is not okay, that is not okay, Zachary, what do you really want to do?"
Zachary didn't say anything, looking down at her with a look that seemed to be looking at a fool from a superior position.
She took a deep breath and said harshly, "Since you're so particular, you shouldn't live on the ground either. Live underground instead, ghosts walk without touching the ground, so they won't dirty your house."
Zachary's face instantly darkened. "Have you had enough of it?"
