Chapter 38 I Want Her in Jail!

Zachary furrowed his brows, "You're overthinking. The Bailey Group is currently negotiating a major project, and the other company's representative values family harmony. If we divorce at this time, it'll take me more time to secure the cooperation. I find it troublesome."

Although Winona deliberately asked the question to provoke him, hearing such a pragmatic response still twisted her heart into a knot.

"We have a secret marriage, few people know about this relationship."

"But it's not like nobody knows. If something happens in this regard, it wouldn't be worth it."

As they spoke, Zachary had already carried Winona upstairs. From her angle, she could only see the man's jawline, just like that time in the hotel bed - inhospitable, arrogantly aloof, and resistant to resistance.

Entering the room, her gaze fell upon the familiar layout.

To outsiders, this was a luxury villa that money couldn't buy, but to Winona, it was a prison that had consumed nearly three years of her youth. Every corner held the shadow of her solitary figure.

The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. It eventually turned into resentment and anger. Winona turned her head, unwilling to look at the room any longer, and accidentally buried her face in the man's chest.

This sudden intimacy eliminated much of the irritation that had been lingering in Zachary's heart during this period. In his eyes, Winona's surrender was apparent.

The warm breath, damp against his skin through their clothes, made Zachary's body tense. His voice carried a subtle, husky tone as he said, "Stop causing trouble. Tomorrow, you'll move back..."

But before he could finish his sentence, Zachary abruptly paused, an indistinguishable hoarseness escaping his throat.

With a pained grunt, he involuntarily raised his voice, "Winona, are you a dog? You actually bit me!"

Winona released her teeth, looking at the bite mark on his neck. She looked up at Zachary, her eyes still filled with the aftermath of grievance.

Winona struggled out of Zachary's embrace. This time, the man didn't stop her and instead put her down on the ground. However, his face turned cold, and his gaze at her resembled that of someone looking at an ignorant stray dog.

"Zachary, stop being so self-righteous. If it weren't for Rebecca, I wouldn't be here tonight. And do you only know how to use force with women? Did I allow you to hold me?"

In the past, all she wanted was a moment of tenderness from Zachary every day. Now that he was willing to hold her, she was not good with it? She didn't allow it?

Zachary felt inexplicably annoyed and raised his hand to press on his forehead.

Suppressing her emotions, Winona didn't forget her purpose and asked clearly, word by word, "Are you really going to let Rebecca go to jail just because of the fading handprint on Fiona's face?"

"She hurt someone and should pay the price."

"You..." Winona gritted her teeth. Then she thought of what he had just said, and the only option left was to make a deal.

"If you want the project so badly, I can wait for you to secure it before divorcing. But the condition is that you must release Rebecca."

As soon as those words were spoken, the bedroom fell silent.

After a few seconds of silence, Zachary frowned and finally nodded reluctantly, his proud head drooping slightly.

After settling the matter with Rebecca through negotiation, Winona didn't want to stay here for even a minute longer. She turned around and left.

After leaving Regal Oaks, she went to the police station. Ryan was still there, and this time, they went through the proper procedures and successfully bailed out Rebecca.

Worried, Rebecca asked, "Did Zachary take advantage of the situation to make any unreasonable demands?"

Winona shook her head. "No."

He didn't mention anything. The conditions were all brought up by her, and he only reluctantly agreed.

Rebecca couldn't believe it. When Zachary came to the police station, his attitude was so tough, without any room for negotiation. Now he suddenly changed his stance. It must be because Winona agreed to some conditions.

"I'm sorry... It's my fault for not controlling my emotions and dragging you into this."

"No, you didn't drag me into this," Winona smiled at her. "If you hadn't taken action, I would have. So, in a way, you suffered for me."

Having reached this point, Rebecca didn't say anything more, but she cursed the bitch couple in her heart!

Once the storm passed, Winona returned to her daily life, repairing artifacts at work and restoring ancient paintings after work. She never received any messages from Zachary again.

Early in the morning, Winona had just arrived at the studio when Mr. Baker called her into his office. "Windy, a production team contacted me. They want to do a program featuring our profession. What do you think?"

"That's good. The outside world doesn't understand our profession, and the number of people in this line of work is decreasing each year. If more people knew about this industry, there would be a lot of fresh blood coming in to fill the gaps."

Most people can't handle the hardships of this profession. They spend their days dealing with a pile of damaged old items, barely able to speak a few words. Long hours, intense focus, dust, and various occupational diseases caused by chemical substances.

Mr. Baker thought the same way. He nodded and said, "Old guys like us won't participate. Among the younger generation, you have the best skills. That's why I want you to record the video for this episode and let those outsiders witness your abilities."

"Me?" Winona looked hesitant. She didn't want to appear in front of the camera, not because she wanted to be mysterious, but because she and Zachary hadn't divorced yet. If she became a public figure on the show, it would undoubtedly cause a stir when they eventually divorce.

"Don't worry, I know you prefer to keep a low profile. You don't need to pose deliberately in the video recording. You can discuss with the production team about not showing your face. After all, our line of work doesn't focus on appearances, but on techniques, right?"

Winona understood what Mr. Baker meant, but she still had some concerns...

Mr. Baker smiled again and said, "Appearing on the show will greatly increase the reputation of the studio and yourself. With fame, you can make more money. Isn't that what life is all about, earning money?"

Winona was stunned. It didn't sound like something he, who seemed indifferent to money, would say, but it struck a chord within her.

Yes, having fame would allow her to take on more challenging jobs and earn more money.

Her current fame was only limited within the industry, not widely known by people outside the circle.

Moreover... she was burdened with a debt of three billion dollars.

After a moment of contemplation, Winona said, "Then, let me consider it."

Night fell, and they were in a VIP room at the Night Club.

Zachary furrowed his brows and occasionally rubbed his temples.

He sat at the corner of the booth, his shirt unbuttoned, exposing a large portion of his chest.

Tonight, Samuel had organized a gathering and invited him to drink. There were quite a few people, all friends who usually had some connection to the industry. Zachary didn't restrain himself and had a few extra drinks.

He took out his phone and, squinting his eyes, called Brian. His handsome face was covered in a deep state of intoxication.

A soft voice came through the earpiece, "What's up?"

Zachary frowned. He felt like he might be hallucinating. He clearly dialed Brian's number, so why did Winona answer the call?

Since the incident with Rebecca, he hadn't seen Winona again. They had no reason to interact, especially now that she was no longer his personal assistant.

Zachary glanced at the phone screen, which displayed Winona's name.

He had dialed the wrong number.
