Chapter 681 I Will Consider It
Winona snorted and brushed past him, heading to the bathroom to freshen up. "With your memory, you probably can't even remember as well as a goldfish. Even if you do remember, you'll probably forget by tomorrow."
Zachary trailed after her, looking downcast. "I remember. Not just in my head, but I wrote it down in my journal."
Winona stopped and turned to face him. "Journal?"
Realizing he had said too much, Zachary hesitated. "Winona, let me think about it. Give me some time, and I'll get back to you soon."
Winona didn't respond, leaving it unclear whether she agreed or not.
After freshening up, they went downstairs. Breakfast was already laid out on the table, filled with her favorite foods. However, the atmosphere was tense due to their earlier unpleasant conversation.
Zachary sipped his soup without tasting it, occasionally glancing at Winona. She was holding her spoon, not looking up. He pursed his lips. "Winona."
Winona's voice was still cold, but her attitude softened a bit. "Aren't we supposed to go to the police station? Hurry up and eat. Stop staring at me; you're ruining my appetite."
At the police station.
The officer handling the case placed items found at Maeve's house in front of Zachary and Winona. "We found these at Maeve's place. There are photos of you and Fiona, along with detailed background information. It includes personality analyses and notes."
Finding it hard to explain, the officer handed them the detailed background notes. "Especially Ms. Sullivan's, which are extremely thorough."
He then pulled out a photo of a completely unfamiliar woman, around sixteen or seventeen, with a plain but pleasant appearance. "Do you know this person?"
Zachary and Winona glanced at the photo and shook their heads. "No."
"This is her before she had plastic surgery," the officer explained. "She altered her appearance to resemble Zachary's ex-girlfriend and studied his current girlfriend's personality."
"Clearly, her intentions are suspicious. We've discovered she's been in contact with an overseas number for several months. We're still investigating the identity of the person she's been communicating with. We'll inform you as soon as we have more information."
After asking a few more questions, the officer allowed Zachary and Winona to leave, reminding them, "You can't leave the city during bail. You must be available whenever we call."
After the officer left, Winona turned and walked away without waiting for Zachary.
Zachary quickly caught up. "Winona, are you still mad? I'm sorry, it's my fault, but I just..."
Winona didn't let him finish, grabbing his hand. She didn't want him to keep reinforcing the idea that she was unwell, nor did she want him to repeatedly open old wounds. "Don't make me angry again, or I really won't talk to you."
Zachary agreed immediately. "Okay."
At times like this, he would agree to anything she said. "Home?"
"Take me to Rebecca's shop. She said she'd video call me last night but didn't. She's been so busy lately that I haven't seen her. I want to check on her and chat. She was also questioned by the police yesterday and must be scared."
Zachary thought for a moment, considering that Winona had been through a lot recently, being kidnapped and treated as a suspect. Chatting with a friend might help her relax.
He nodded. "Alright, call me when you're done, and I'll come pick you up."
Zachary dropped Winona off at Rebecca's shop.
The woman who was supposedly scared was sitting in a rocking chair by the door, legs crossed, leisurely rocking.
There were drinks, snacks, and her favorite book on the coffee table beside her.
She looked completely relaxed, showing no signs of being frightened or affected by Maeve's death.
As Winona unbuckled her seatbelt, Zachary ruffled her hair. "Go on."
Winona pouted and swatted his hand away. "Don't mess with my hair; you're ruining my hairstyle."
"You're just meeting Rebecca. What hairstyle do you need?"
Zachary watched his hand turn red from her slap and got out of the car. Rebecca jumped up from the chair and hugged Winona. "It's already noon, and you finally decided to visit me, you traitor."
Winona retorted, "If I were really a traitor, I'd be in his car right now, waving at you from afar, then going to a hotel, watching a movie, or napping at home, instead of hugging you here."
Rebecca immediately forgave her. "Fine, you have a conscience. Let's go get lunch."
Winona was dragged into the shop. "You talk about me, but what about you? You said you'd video call me last night. I waited and waited but never heard from you."
Rebecca had been so overwhelmed the previous night that she forgot about the video call and fell asleep as soon as she got home.
Hearing that Winona had waited for her, she felt a pang of guilt. "Why didn't you call me? Look at your dark circles. Did you stay up all night waiting for my call?"
That would be truly awful.
Winona replied, "I didn't want to interrupt you and Mr. Lewis."
Mentioning Anthony made Rebecca swallow nervously. "I have to tell you something. His size has increased."
"What?"
"Well..."
She vividly described the situation. "I thought I slept with him when I was drunk, and he chased me to take responsibility, so I agreed. But now I think we never actually slept together; it was just a misunderstanding."
This was beyond her comprehension.
If Zachary knew she and Rebecca were discussing Anthony's size, he'd be furious.
He had previously bragged about his prowess, and now he constantly tried to prove it, demanding her verbal acknowledgment.
Winona suggested, "Mr. Lewis seems to care about you. Why not give it a real shot and have a serious relationship?"
"You can't stay single forever. Now you have someone you don't dislike who really likes you. Why not take this chance to try? Otherwise, you might end up marrying someone you don't know well, and your mom definitely won't approve."
Rebecca agreed. "Makes sense."
