Chapter 88 Dying with Him
Zachary's lips had already pressed into a straight line, his dark eyes fixated coldly on Winona. He asked in a flat tone, "Are you really that interested?"
"It's just that..." Winona paused in the middle of her words, her face suddenly changing. She reached out and tightly grasped the handrail on top, anxiously shouting at him, "Zachary, look at the road, not me! You're driving, watch the road!"
Her voice was so loud that it was almost cracking.
Although this road didn't have much traffic, there were still cars. Zachary, being the lunatic that he was, continued to look at her while maintaining his speed, and it seemed like he was about to rear-end the car in front.
Winona closed her eyes and shouted, "Ah... We're going to crash!"
"Screech—" The sound of screeching brakes pierced the air, but the expected impact never came. Besides the discomfort caused by the sudden braking tightening her shoulder against the seatbelt, there was no other sensation of pain.
Winona opened her eyes and found that the Bentley's front end was just a few centimeters away from the car in front of them.
If the brakes had been pressed just a few seconds later...
She was furious, her voice becoming shrill: "Zachary, if you want to die, find a place where nobody's around. Don't drag others down with you, especially not me. If we die together, people will think it's some kind of tragic love affair!"
"It should make you happy to die with me, wouldn't it?" Zachary smirked, his lips curling as he leaned in closer to her.
The distance between the two suddenly closed, allowing them to see themselves clearly in each other's eyes.
Zachary's gaze fell upon the woman's porcelain-like face. Today, she wasn't wearing any makeup, and her lips were only coated with a thin layer of lip gloss.
He stared at her lips, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly as his gaze grew deeper and more intense.
Winona's crimson lips tightened. "How much do you hate me to treat me like this? Only bad luck would make us end up in this kind of situation together. Do you really think I'd be happy about it?"
As soon as she finished speaking, she pushed Zachary away without any hesitation and scolded him with a cold face. "Drive properly, or I might not be able to resist the urge to slap you."
The man hit the backrest, and a gloominess filled his eyes. "You shouldn't worry about things that don't concern you."
Knowing he was referring to his affair with Fiona, Winona opened her mouth to say something but was coldly silenced by Zachary's glance. "Shut up."
Because of this incident, they arrived at Crest Manor past six o'clock. Lydia heard the engine noise and came out from the villa, saying, "Why are you so late? I called you, but no one answered. I was so worried."
Winona took out her phone and saw two missed calls. Her phone had been on silent mode, so she didn't hear them.
"I had Sarah prepare your favorite dishes. Are you hungry? We'll start eating as soon as you've washed up," Lydia said, holding Winona's arm as they walked into the mansion. "Hurry up and serve the food."
Zachary watched the two figures getting further away.
Huh, who knows who's the real family.
By the time he entered, Lydia and Winona were already sitting at the dining table, ready to eat. There were no utensils set for him on the table.
Zachary washed his hands and took a seat. "Sarah, get me another set of utensils."
Sarah glanced at Lydia hesitantly and reminded him, "Young Master, Mrs. isn't in a good mood."
Lydia snorted and didn't even raise her head. "What's the point of eating when you're a man who's indecisive and fickle? You're not deserving of a meal in our house anyway. It would be a waste even if you ate."
Winona couldn't help but chuckle at this remark, as she wholeheartedly agreed.
The man looked at her expressionlessly, and Winona met his gaze head-on. Remembering their agreement in the car, she swallowed the food in her mouth. "Mom..."
But Zachary cut her off coldly, "Mom, who's gossiping and spreading rumors in front of you?"
Lydia knew her son well, so if he found out who said what...
"Well, that person basically has no way out," she said coldly, banging the table in anger. "If you didn't do it, no one would have any leverage to spread rumors about you. But since you did, you can't stop others from talking."
A deadly silence fell around the table. Lydia pursed her lips and after a moment of silence, she gave an order. "Send her abroad and never let me see her again."
Everyone knew exactly who that 'her' referred to.
However, Zachary furrowed his brows and firmly stated, "That's impossible."
This was the first time Winona had seen him defend someone so confidently. Zachary was always cold and rarely showed his emotions, so it was unusual to see him protect another person like this.
In the quiet light, the man sat upright on his chair, his handsome features surrounded by an indecipherable melancholy, and an undeniable determination that no one could ignore.
Lydia never expected her son to openly defy her for Fiona. She shouldn't have allowed that woman to return home!
"What do you want to do then? Keep her by your side? Or divorce Winona and marry her?"
These words should not have been said in front of Winona. Watching her husband defend another woman, it was an excruciating pain!
But Lydia genuinely treated Winona as her own daughter. She would rather let her suffer than hide the truth from her and let her be trapped in such a terrible marriage.
Lydia looked at Winona and held her hand, giving her a comforting pat.
Zachary followed her gaze and saw the woman sitting there quietly. Her exquisite features were dazzlingly beautiful, like a porcelain doll, even without makeup. At this moment, she appeared both sad and lost in thought.
He lifted his thin lips, about to speak, but Winona interrupted, "Mom, don't blame him."
Zachary's brows suddenly furrowed, his thin lips tightly pressed together, and his knuckles turned white. His handsome face became extremely gloomy.
Before he could say anything, Winona continued, "Zachary and I have decided to get a divorce. We have a long future ahead, and he needs to find you a daughter-in-law, right?"
Lydia was shocked to learn that the two of them had reached the point of divorce. She looked at Zachary, then at Winona, and asked, "Is it because of Fiona?"
Winona smiled helplessly and hugged Lydia's arm. "No, it was already decided long ago, but for unforeseen circumstances, it got delayed... Mom, even if Zachary and I get a divorce, I'll always be your daughter. Fiona is actually a good person. She's now an internationally renowned dancer, hardworking and dedicated, and deeply in love with Zachary..."
Back in university, she and Fiona couldn't stand each other. She never expected that one day she would speak up for the enemy. It's truly ironic.
Damn, it hurts!
She looked at Zachary, but the man stared at her without any reaction. Even when their eyes met, he showed no intention to respond. She could only subtly raise her eyebrow at him, signaling him, "What do you think?"
