Chapter 397 We Remarry

Zachary carried her on his back, mulling over recent events. "Eva's definitely got more tricks up her sleeve," he said.

"Yeah," Winona replied, clearly annoyed. She regretted going shopping, but even if she didn't come out for shopping, Eva would have found another way to push her out.

This whole situation was a mess.

That woman wasn't just looking for a daughter-in-law to climb the social ladder; she was desperate to find someone with good fortune to revive her family. Whether it made sense or not, she believed in it. If medicine failed, metaphysics was her last resort.

A mother would do anything for her child. For her son, she wouldn't give up easily. If she truly believed in Eva, she wouldn't back down just because Zachary warned her.

Sensing Winona's frustration, Zachary gently suggested, "I have an idea to fix this."

"What is it?"

"A marriage certificate is legally binding. If we get married, no one else can interfere."

Winona took a moment to process his suggestion. "Mr. Bailey, don't forget you're still just a temporary boyfriend who hasn't even passed the probation period. Does your company promote interns directly to CEO?"

"As long as you're capable, those things don't matter. Exceptions can be made."

"Even with exceptions, the most one could become is a team leader. I've never heard of anyone being promoted directly to CEO."

"How many times has your company made such exceptions?" Winona asked.

"Once," Zachary replied confidently.

Did something like this actually happen?

Winona looked at him suspiciously, but from her angle, she could only see his profile.

Promoted from intern to CEO—what kind of talent would that require?

She suddenly paused, eyes widening in disbelief. "That person wouldn't happen to be you, would it?"

Afraid of being misunderstood, Zachary quickly explained, "It still requires the board's approval. The Bailey Group isn't a family business; positions are based on merit. If I didn't have the ability, the board wouldn't have agreed to let me take over."

The more he explained, the more Winona felt he was hiding something. They had been discussing remarriage, but he suddenly dropped the topic. Saying there was no issue was hard to believe.

Zachary wasn't actually feeling guilty; he had just thought of something else. The man he considered a rival, Frank, might soon become his father-in-law.

However, he had not only canceled a confirmed collaboration with The Turner Family but also introduced a girlfriend to Frank and sarcastically called him a shameless old man who seduced young girls.

If it had been him, he definitely wouldn't have agreed to this marriage.

Zachary dropped Winona off at Regal Oaks. During this time, he didn't mention their remarriage again. "I have some things to take care of and might be back late. If you're tired, go to bed first."

Winona turned to open the car door. Just before getting out, she felt something was off. "Did you do something shady? Or are you planning to?"

"Do you want to come with me?"

Winona shook her head, opened the door, and got out. Zachary might have just thought of remarriage on a whim, so he mentioned it briefly. When she refused, he dropped the topic.

Waterfront Pearl.

Frank had just finished his shower when Rodolfo called him.

"Mr. Turner, Mr. Bailey is here, and he brought a gift," Rodolfo said. Rodolfo, who spent most of his time with Frank, knew that Mr. Bailey harbored animosity towards Mr. Turner. Even if they accidentally ran into each other, it was always with a sarcastic attitude. Now, it was unusual for Zachary to suddenly bring a gift and wait outside.

Something was definitely up.

"Should I send him away?"

"Let him in. Dreamopolis is his territory. If he wanted to force his way in, you couldn't stop him. Violence doesn't solve any problems."

If you didn't have some background, hitting someone could have landed you in jail."

When Zachary entered, Frank had already changed into a cotton-linen loungewear and was sitting on the sofa making tea.

Hearing the noise, he slightly lifted his eyes, looking at the tall, handsome man at the door. The more he looked, the less satisfied he felt. A man this good-looking would attract too much female attention and couldn't provide the security women wanted.

Frank said in a playful tone, "Mr. Bailey, is there something you need?"

Zachary placed the gift on the coffee table and said in a polite tone, "I heard you like chess. A friend recently acquired a set with excellent craftsmanship. Since your birthday is coming up, I thought I'd give it to you as a token of my appreciation."

Frank's expression didn't change, and his movements were elegant and precise. He said with a mocking tone, "An old man over fifty, what's the point of celebrating birthdays? I haven't even found a girlfriend yet. Who knows when I might just drop dead."

Zachary opened the chess set, his face calm, saying, "You're too modest. At your age, you're in your prime, far from old."

Frank glanced at the chess set. It wasn't just decent; it was of collectible quality. Each piece was round and translucent, even he was slightly impressed.

He closed the box and pushed it back, saying, "Mr. Bailey, please be direct with your intentions. This makes me uncomfortable."

"Is The Turner Family still interested in the collaboration you mentioned last time?"

Frank remained silent.

"If it's business, we should discuss it during the day. There are many details to cover, and it can't be done quickly," he rubbed his temples, "I'm getting old and can't stay up late. Staying up late tends to exacerbate my fatigue, making it even harder to find a girlfriend."

Seeing Zachary's unpleasant expression, Frank couldn't have been happier.

Zachary swallowed his retort. He could see Frank was deliberately mocking him, still holding a grudge from before. "Today, Winona and I went shopping and ran into Eva. She had a dispute with a middle-aged woman and dragged Winona into it."

Frank didn't need more details to guess the identity of the middle-aged woman. His face darkened slightly and said, "Tell Winona not to worry. I'll handle it."

Zachary said, "No matter how this is handled, there will be flaws. Refusing the marriage could make you seem ungrateful, affecting The Turner Family's image. You've been in the business world longer than I have; you should know how much a company's public image matters."

When others were looking for partners, they always chose companies with a positive image. Things like these were the most taboo; no one wanted to be betrayed by their partner.

"Not refusing would also draw criticism. After all, Eva is just a niece. If you marry her off to a comatose man, people will definitely have opinions about you."
