Chapter 221 It's All Her Doing.
She bit her lip, averted her gaze, and reluctantly said, "I'm sorry, I misunderstood you last night." As the words fell, she forcefully pushed him away, catching Zachary off guard, and he fell directly from the bed.
Winona didn't care about anything else and hurriedly got up from the bed, rushing naked into the bathroom.
Passing by the sink, she glanced at the mirror. From her neck to her collarbone, and then to her abdomen, there were marks all over.
Although she had no memory, just by looking at her battered body, she could roughly imagine what had happened last night.
Winona's mood was complicated. It wasn't until she lay in the bathtub, her body enveloped by the comforting warm water, that she began to recall the events of last night.
Last night, they had a dorm party, and she hadn't left the private room since they entered, nor had she eaten anything from outside. So, when exactly was she drugged? And what happened to the other three besides her?
She and Alice left the private room first, but did Lily and Ann call Alice later?
The hotel was booked by her, and she had all the room keys.
Winona instinctively reached for her phone to make a call, but her hand grasped emptiness, only then did she realize that her phone had been thrown away by the mysterious person from last night.
If the drug was given by her roommate, then who was that mysterious person last night?
Lost in her thoughts, time passed by quickly. The bathtub in the Night Club was temperature-controlled, and she didn't even notice how long she had been soaking. It wasn't until a series of urgent knocks sounded.
"Winona, if you don't come out soon, I'm coming in." It was Zachary's voice.
Taking a bath on an empty stomach in the morning could lead to low blood sugar. Winona had been in there for forty minutes, and he had patiently waited before knocking, giving her enough time to calm down.
Winona snapped back to reality and realized she was feeling a bit dizzy, her fingers wrinkled from being in the water. She quickly got out of the bathtub and wrapped herself in a bathrobe before heading out.
Zachary threw her clothes at her and said, "Change, and let's go see who caused trouble last night."
As Winona and Zachary entered the manager's office, they found her three roommates already seated on the sofa, their demeanor markedly different from the carefree and bold selves they had been the previous night. Instead, they seemed timid and subdued, like deer caught in headlights.
Ann was the first to see her, pouting and complaining, "Winona, where were you last night? Lily and I tried calling you non-stop, and when we asked the manager to check the surveillance, they refused. We were about to call the police."
She looked quite miserable, with disheveled hair, a tired face, and red eyes. As she spoke, she even let out a belch.
She stared at Winona with tear-filled eyes. If it weren't for the security guards standing on either side of her, she might have rushed toward her.
Winona asked, "So, where did you sleep with Lily last night?"
She was almost ninety-nine percent sure that she was drugged in the private room. The drinks served by the waiter were all unopened. Her gaze swept over the three people on the sofa, each with a different expression but all showing concern.
So, who exactly drugged her?
They had a good relationship during their university days. They had been together for four years without ever having a fight or getting angry. But after graduation, they went their separate ways, only exchanging Christmas greetings via text messages. It was hard to say how much of their original bond remained.
Ann replied, "We slept in the private room. We were planning to get another room, but we were afraid you wouldn't find us when you came back. Then, before dawn, we were forcibly brought here."
Lily's gaze had been on Zachary ever since he entered. She was more sensitive and observant than the other two. Seeing the serious expressions on Zachary and Winona's faces, she furrowed her brow and asked, "Winona, did something happen last night?"
Winona nodded. She then turned her gaze to Alice, who had been silent the whole time. "Alice, what about you? Where were you last night?"
The last drink was given to her by Alice, and it was also Alice's idea to leave. But as soon as they left, Alice said she needed to use the restroom, and that was when Winona encountered the danger.
Alice held her head. "I had just entered one of the stalls in the restroom last night when someone drugged me."
The manager interjected, "When we found Alice, she had indeed fainted in the restroom. We immediately took her to the hospital. As for whether she was drugged or not, we are still waiting for the test results."
Winona turned to the manager. "Can I see the surveillance footage from the restroom entrance last night?"
"The other party seemed to have tampered with it in advance, covering the camera with a cloth before appearing," the manager explained. The Night Club had hundreds of surveillance cameras, both visible and hidden. It was easy for a problem to go unnoticed, especially in a short period.
As he paused, his gaze fell on Zachary, who was standing nearby. The hidden surveillance was related to the Night Club's reputation. According to the media, Zachary was currently going through a divorce with Mrs. Sullivan, and his intentions were uncertain.
Zachary, who had been tormented by physical discomfort for most of the night, had just fallen asleep when Winona woke him up. He was exhausted, and when he felt the manager's gaze, he responded in a displeased tone, "If she wants to see it, show it to her. What do I have to do with it?"
Soon, a surveillance video was placed in front of Winona.
"The other party disguised themselves and their face was not fully captured in the video, but..." the manager started to explain.
Winona's gaze fell on the computer screen, and she finally understood why the manager had hesitated to speak. The person in the video was wearing a mask, an Iron Man mask.
The manager continued, "The two people who helped you upstairs have already been investigated by Mr. Bailey. We believe we will have results soon."
"Fiona," Winona suddenly spoke, interrupting him.
Zachary frowned, displeased. "What obsession do you have with her? You keep mentioning her name all the time."
Winona pointed at the person wearing the Iron Man mask on the screen with a half-smile. "Mr. Bailey, take a look. Isn't this your ex-girlfriend?"
Even though Fiona had disguised herself and was wearing loose clothing, her unique aura and way of walking couldn't deceive anyone. She had also practiced dancing since she was young, making her presence more prominent than an ordinary person. As long as it was someone familiar, they could still recognize her.
Zachary took a quick glance and honestly said, "I can't tell."
"Well, then your skills as a boyfriend are quite inadequate." Winona thought he was deliberately protecting Fiona and sarcastically remarked, "Shouldn't you be able to recognize someone you care about, even if they are disguised or presumed dead?"
"That's DNA testing technology. In plain terms, it's something normal people can't discern," Zachary explained.
Winona was speechless.
He added, "Don't get too proud, you're starting to make sense now."
Winona replied, "If you ever anger me, I'll dress like this and give you a beating."
Zachary seemed to understand her thoughts. "But even if you were wrapped up like that, I would still recognize you."
Despite Winona's certainty that the person in the surveillance footage was Fiona, she knew Fiona would never admit it based on this video alone.
"It should be her," Matthew suddenly remarked, walking in from outside.
Zachary's tired face instantly darkened. "What are you here for?"
Matthew completely ignored him and looked at Winona, handing her a white pill. "This is what Fiona gave me last night, asking me to put it in the drink you had."
He glanced at the screen while speaking, also unable to recognize the person.
Winona didn't expect this turn of events. That woman was truly malicious. She and Zachary were already divorced, so they didn't have a relationship that would make them enemies. And even if Fiona considered Winona a rival, using such methods was despicable.
She reached out to take the white pill, but Zachary's hand was faster.
By the time Winona reacted, the pill was already in his hand.
Her hand came back empty, and after a slight pause, she said, "Mr. Bailey, are you trying to protect her, or do you not believe her despite the evidence?"
She called him "Mr. Bailey" twice in a row, and the long-lasting cold smile and sarcasm in her eyes seemed to turn into tangible knives, each one piercing his chest. At this moment, she stood beside Matthew, forming a clear and insurmountable divide between them.
Zachary pursed his lips, his dark eyes staring at her, his emotions unreadable. But it was clear that Zachary was extremely angry. "Do you think I'm that kind of person?"
