Chapter 526 Stop Pinching, I Can't Control It
Timothy shot Matthew a stern look. "Why are you asking that?" he said.
"Well, judging by Mr. Ramsey's looks, he’s gotta be around thirty, right? I just saw him in the banquet hall before I came up here. Even if he vanished right after I left, it's only been twenty minutes. You're checking surveillance and knocking on doors like he's a fugitive. If that's how you see him, then forget I asked," Matthew said with a sincere smile on his gentle, refined face. "If you see him as your brother, I suggest you see a psychologist. You might not get it, but some moms have this crazy possessiveness over their sons, thinking the whole world is trying to snatch them away. Your mindset right now is kinda like that mom; you need to get help ASAP."
The reporters had been kicked out, leaving just Timothy and Matthew in the room. It was eerily quiet when no one was talking.
In the closet, Zachary's voice dropped even lower, whispering right into Winona's ear, "I told you he's a hypocrite, and yet you still defend him. Nicholas's resume speaks for itself. What's with the judging by appearance? He's clearly mocking me for being older."
Winona replied, "Didn't he also help you insult Timothy for being sick?"
Zachary said, "That's not an insult. Timothy is indeed crazy; he's just stating a fact."
Alright then.
There was no way to have a normal conversation with a childish man, especially when it came to a rival in love.
When Winona heard Timothy was going to search the room, her body tensed up involuntarily. "What if Matthew can't stop him?" she asked.
Zachary replied, "Then let him search. If we can't hide it, we'll just stop pretending."
If it were as easy as Zachary said, would he have stayed by Timothy's side, enduring hardships for so long? The mastermind hadn't been found yet. If they had blown their cover then, wouldn't all their previous efforts have been for nothing?
Winona said, "How can you be so careless? Didn't you avoid the surveillance?" But then she realized it was a pointless question. The surveillance in a five-star hotel couldn't be avoided like that. Apart from the rooms, the public areas were monitored 360 degrees, with no blind spots. Thinking of this, Winona added, "You shouldn't have come up."
She was about to leave. If Zachary hadn't come in and delayed her with conversation, she wouldn't be in this awkward situation, stuck in the closet with reporters outside.
"If I hadn't come in, it would be you and Matthew alone in a room. Since the other side set this trap, they wouldn't let you get away unscathed." Seeing Winona was genuinely worried, Zachary said, "There's no surveillance. The hotel's surveillance should still be under repair. Timothy is bluffing."
At that time, Timothy's hand clenched into a fist in his pocket. "May I search the room?" he asked.
Matthew replied, "No, I value my privacy. You should understand that, right?"
Timothy pressed, "Then how about I switch rooms with you?"
"No." Matthew rarely showed such a lack of courtesy. His father always said, "Leave some room in everything, so you can reunite in the future."
Timothy's gaze swept around the room. Besides the bathroom and the closet, there was no other place to hide. His eyes lingered on the closet for a few seconds before he turned away. "In that case, I won't disturb your rest." With that, he turned decisively and walked towards the door.As he walked past the closet, Timothy suddenly reached out, grabbed the handle, and yanked hard.
But it didn't budge.
Matthew's hand was pressing on the door. He looked at Timothy, his voice low and indifferent yet clear and forceful. "Timothy, I said, I mind."
Their eyes locked in a silent but fierce standoff, neither willing to back down.
Hiding in the closet, Winona was so scared by the sudden change that her mind went blank, her heart racing. She clutched Zachary's arm tightly, her nails almost digging into his skin, but they didn't puncture it because Zachary was too solid.
In such a tense atmosphere, Zachary was still restless. He tightened his arm around her waist and whispered, "Winona, don't pinch. It's not under my control."
Winona felt puzzled.
Then she felt something hard pressing against her lower back.
She thought, 'Zachary, you didn't get eaten by sharks when you fell into the sea. Is it because they thought you were brainless and eating you would make them stupid?'
She ranted in her mind but didn't dare make a sound, afraid of being exposed. If Timothy weren't outside, she would have turned around and strangled this heartless, troublemaking Zachary.
Zachary asked, "Are you going back to the apartment tonight or staying at the hotel?"
He continued, "Back to the apartment. Otherwise, going in and out will cause the hotel's surveillance to get blacked out again. The hotel owner has it tough, trying to manage security while dealing with his wife. Once is alright, but repeatedly? If he can't spend time with her because of this and she decides to leave, it would be our fault."
Winona thought, 'Why drag me into your mess? And why does this sound like Samuel, always chasing his wife and worrying about being kicked out if he does something wrong?'
Zachary confirmed her suspicion, "Yes, it's him. He found the people to black out the surveillance."
Winona thought, 'Being friends with you is really bad luck.'
Zachary added, "Are the things we left at Regal Oaks about to expire? When are we going to..."
Winona couldn't hold back anymore and turned to scold, "Shut up. If you keep talking nonsense, I'll push you out and let Timothy turn you into an idiot. Then I'll tie a rope around your neck, take you out to sunbathe in the summer, and let you freeze in the winter."
Zachary chuckled softly.
He was about to speak again when Winona covered his mouth, signaling him to be quiet with her eyes.
Outside the closet, Timothy looked at Matthew's hand pressing on the door. It was a clean, slender hand that had never done any hard labor. Timothy glanced at his own hand, which had suffered from frostbite, broken skin, and pus during his years in the orphanage, leaving ugly scars.
Those hands were truly enviable.
Timothy remarked, "Mr. Watson, I know you've always liked Winona, but it seems Winona has transferred her feelings for Mr. Bailey to my brother. Aren't you jealous?"
Matthew replied, "Jealous, and then what?"
Timothy said, "My brother and I are going back abroad soon and will never return. Then Dreamopolis will be just you and Winona, with no one else to bother you. Women's hearts are soft. If she doesn't accept you now, she'll be moved by you over time. How about we cooperate? You tell me where my brother is, and I'll help you pursue Winona."
