Chapter 393 Keeping Such a Hidden Danger

Zachary was both amused and annoyed by Austin's logic.

"Borrowing your car makes me the bad guy?" Zachary asked.

"I was hurt at the time. According to traffic laws, I couldn't drive," Austin replied.

Zachary sneered, "You're really something, dodging responsibility like that."

Winona rubbed her temples, clearly frustrated. She felt that these two were truly destined to be arch-enemies, given how quickly they started bickering.

"What do you need my help with?" she asked.

Surely, he didn't want her to take someone to Regal Oaks?

"Given her situation, she probably ran into something she doesn't want to deal with. As a guy, it's hard for me to persuade her, so I thought you could give it a shot."

He didn't buy that a simple accident could cause amnesia.

Winona glanced toward the living room. She didn't know Abigail and wasn't great at talking to people. She had no clue how to start convincing her.

"Didn't you take her to the police?" Winona asked, concerned.

"I did. She told the cops she was my fiancée and that she had a brain injury from the accident. She claimed I was ditching her because of it."

The officer taking the statement was a woman. She gave him a disdainful look and told him to take her home and talk things over. Even if they were breaking up, it should be amicable.

It wasn't surprising that the female officer believed Abigail. Abigail was indeed very well-behaved, both in appearance and demeanor. If Austin weren't the victim, he wouldn't believe such a sweet girl could be so cunning.

Winona couldn't help but laugh, but to save Austin's face, she quickly lowered her head, though her slightly shaking shoulders gave her away.

Back in school, Austin was quite the troublemaker, often making teachers furious. Winona never thought he would end up being controlled by a woman.

"What kind of TV does she watch?" Winona asked.

"She doesn't watch anything specific. Whatever channel is on, she watches. Even when the TV broke, she didn't complain," Austin said, rubbing his temples, clearly troubled by this woman who had suddenly attached herself to him.

"Could it be that she just wanted to watch that particular channel?" Winona analyzed. "Nowadays, most people are on their phones. Watching TV all day and all night must have a special reason."

"The news channel. She doesn't have phone."

Winona didn't usually watch the news, only occasionally checking trending topics, so she turned to Zachary.

Meeting her gaze, Zachary replied, "The biggest news recently is that the adopted son of Horizon Enterprises' chairman married his daughter. On the wedding night, the chairman was hospitalized due to a sudden illness and hasn't woken up since. It's rumored the groom had a girlfriend before."

"So, she might be the groom's ex-girlfriend?"

Winona thought it was very likely. When she entered, Abigail was wrapping flowers according to a pattern.

Her long, nimble fingers held the pink thread, wrapping it around the template in loops, and soon she had created a petal.

Sensing Winona's approach, Abigail looked up and smiled at her, revealing two small dimples. Abigail handed her a finished flower with a faint smile. "You're so pretty. This is for you."

Winona instinctively took the flower, her heart softening. Abigail was so well-behaved, polite, and even complimented her looks. Who wouldn't like her? She immediately felt her resolve weaken and glanced towards Austin at the door.

Austin said, "Don't be fooled by her looks. Chloe was so upset by her a few days ago that she ran out of here crying. And remember, you're here because I asked you to be. Can you be more firm in your stance?"

Zachary raised an eyebrow slightly when he saw Abigail's face but didn't say anything. He took the opportunity to tease Austin, saying, "Maybe this is the girl that fate has arranged for you."

Austin shot back, "Would you take her if I offered?"

Not that he had any romantic interest in Abigail. Even if he did, he wouldn't dare. Especially since he had just revealed his identity, a woman suddenly crashed into his car, lost her memory, and insisted on staying with him.

What kind of amnesiac was so determined not to go to the hospital?

Winona asked, "Abigail, do you really not remember anything?"

Abigail lowered her head and continued wrapping flowers.

"Do you have any identification? We could contact the police and have your parents come get you."

Her hands paused for a few seconds, and she shook her head. "No."

Winona played her trump card. "Do you know the chairman of Horizon Enterprises?"

"I don't know," Abigail looked up and smiled at Winona. "I have amnesia. How would I know if I know him?"

Her expression was calm, showing no signs of lying.

No matter how Winona questioned her, she couldn't get any useful information. This was really tricky. And judging by her demeanor, she had no intention of going home. Was she having a conflict with her family? Or had she been kicked out?

She had already come up with an idea for a novel.

In the end, she had no choice but to say to Austin, "Maybe you should try someone else?"

Austin listlessly glanced at her. "Who? Rebecca? I'm afraid they'd end up fighting."

Winona thought about it and realized it was possible. Rebecca wasn't known for her patience.

Downstairs, she looked at the flower in her hand, frowning and muttering, "What if she never leaves?"

"Just kick her out of the house or take her to the police station. After all, she has no evidence to prove she's Austin's fiancée. The police will handle it at that time."

If Austin was determined to get rid of this woman, there were a million ways to do it.

"If Austin is soft-hearted and wants to keep such a potential threat, let him."

Winona scoffed, "You're really heartless..."

She paused and asked, "Do you know who she is?"

Zachary might have a sharp tongue, but he had the manners and upbringing not to badmouth someone behind their back, especially a woman.
