Chapter 26 This is a Hickey

Winona never considered if she had had enough of life; she only knew that even if she had to return to Regal Oaks now, she did not want to ride in a car with him!
She took a taxi to Regal Oaks by herself, whether it was intentional or not, they almost arrived one after another.
Winona ignored him, hummed, and went up the steps.
Calliope saw her return and exclaimed, "You're finally back! Mr. Bailey was quite unhappy these past few days. I didn't dare to even make any noise while cleaning."
Winona had a good temperament, and since Calliope was someone she had chosen herself, she was more relaxed in front of her, constantly chattering. "Which couple doesn't argue? Mr. Bailey cares about you..."
Winona didn't want to hear any good words about Zachary. She asked unintentionally, "Calliope, does your husband eat the food you cook?"
Calliope didn't know why Winona suddenly asked this and answered truthfully, "Yes, he does. My husband isn't picky, he eats whatever I cook for him."
Winona changed her shoes and walked in with a casual tone, "But my husband never eats the food I cook, let alone what I make for him."
Calliope was instantly speechless. She silently glanced at the man standing at the door, seeing him with a gloomy face, tightly pursed lips, and a chilling aura surrounding him...
Winona went straight to the second floor and opened the bedroom door. The familiar scent engulfed her.
Zachary probably hadn't come back to stay during this time. The decorations in the room were still the same as when she left, and even the small items she casually placed on the bedside table were still there.
Returning temporarily to pack things, Winona didn't have any other preparations. There were only two 30-inch suitcases at home, and even if they were packed full, it wouldn't be enough to hold a quarter of the clothes in the walk-in closet.
She took the ones she bought and what remained were all the ones Zachary gave her. They were the latest models from top luxury brands, styles that ordinary people would break their heads to buy but couldn't get their hands on. She could wear one piece a day for two years without repeating.
In these three years of marriage, aside from not liking her, Zachary never treated her poorly in terms of material possessions, to the point where she often had the illusion that he might also like her...
Zachary came in from outside and happened to see Winona squatting on the ground, continuously stuffing things into the suitcase. A restless feeling rose within him, and his expression grew even darker. "Is it necessary to keep making a fuss about such a small matter of not eating your food?"
Winona put her hand down.
Folded clothes were tossed into the suitcase, and she stood up to meet his gaze. "Do you think it's a trivial matter?"
Upon hearing this, Zachary frowned impatiently and said, "I thought we both agreed to this arrangement."
It was Lydia's suggestion to work as his personal assistant at the Bailey Group, and he arranged it. But that didn't mean he had to follow her meal plans. He had mentioned that she could apply for a transfer to a different department if she wanted.
It was Winona who was unwilling.
Since she lacked ambition and was content with a dead-end job, he had nothing more to say. He simply treated her as someone without any ambition.
Winona was infuriated by his presumptuous attitude and felt an urge to smash his head open with a hammer to see what was inside!
"Yes, we agreed to this arrangement, so now I want a divorce, just as we agreed upon when we got married."
She didn't have the mood to sort everything out anymore. She crammed the clothes haphazardly into the suitcase, pulled up the zipper, and said, "I'll come back to move the rest tomorrow. We'll go get the documents on Monday so that we won't delay."
Hearing her continue with these words, Zachary's patience ran out. As Winona passed by him with the suitcase in hand, he grabbed her wrist and pushed her onto the couch, taking out his phone and throwing it to her. "Open it."
Winona frowned in annoyance, not understanding what he was up to.
Zachary spoke again, "You heard what the doctor said today. Mom's health can't handle any stress. Weren't you causing a scene because I didn't eat the food you prepared? Order something now, and I'll eat it. Don't bring up the divorce again, at least not until Mom's condition stabilizes."
Winona's forehead remained furrowed. She suspected that Zachary was doing this intentionally.
This was not just about eating or causing a scene. He knew very well what the biggest problem in this marriage was, yet he chose to avoid the issue and misinterpret her intentions.
Winona met the man's gaze without wavering, "My biggest compromise is keeping the divorce a secret from Mom. If you want me to pretend, I can play along, and I'll be at your service 24/7."
Although she said that, whether she would stay or not after the divorce was something Zachary couldn't control. He had to make things sound more pleasant now.
Seeing Zachary's face turn dark, ready to explode at any moment, Winona hardened her heart and delivered a sharp blow, "Zachary, a man's persistence can be quite annoying."
She knew him too well. Being born into privilege and living at the top of the pyramid, he was accustomed to flattery and praise. How could he tolerate being described with such words by her?
"Persistence?" The man was indeed infuriated, his voice filled with a strong resentment. He then scoffed and sneered, "You? Are you even worthy?"
He stood up, looking down at her with superiority, "Tomorrow, the lawyer will contact you to discuss the details of the divorce. Now get out."
Winona quickly got up from the couch, twisted the luggage handle, and ran faster than a rabbit, afraid that Zachary would go back on his word.
"The rest, I'll come back to pick up tomorrow."
"No need, I'll have Calliope throw it away directly."
As Winona's departing footsteps continued, her voice drifted from afar, "Fine, do whatever you want!"
Watching the woman's fleeing figure, Zachary's face turned as cold as ice...
