Chapter 345 I Won't Like You Anymore
Xavier suddenly sprang up, slamming the table and shouting, "Winona, if you dare touch them, I'll kill you."
The prison guard said, "What are you doing? Xavier, do you not want to get out of here? Do you want to be confined?"
Xavier hurriedly apologized, "I'm sorry, but my son is sick, and I just got emotional and lost control. Officer, I promise it won't happen again."
He then softened his attitude and turned to Winona, "Miss Sullivan, how is my son?"
"He's fine, but he needs to be on medication constantly. Your wife has been without a stable job for years because she's been taking care of him, and she can't afford the high medical bills."
Xavier said with certainty, "That's impossible."
"Why?" Winona asked.
Xavier remained silent, and Winona wasn't surprised. She had been dealing with him for many years, and a little more time didn't matter. She pressed a printed chat log against the glass.
"The money that person gives each year is barely enough to cover your child's hospital bills. But your wife and child still have to live and eat. So their life is quite miserable. Your child's illness was once cured by a professor abroad, so it's not entirely incurable, there's still a chance."
With a loud thud, Xavier pressed his hands against the glass, leaning in close. He stared at the paper full of foreign languages, unable to understand it, but that didn't dampen his shock. "Is what you're saying true?"
After the earlier situation, the prison guard was highly attentive to them. As soon as Xavier moved, the guard came over. When Xavier slapped the glass, he was immediately restrained.
Xavier quickly apologized. The rough man in his fifties, with graying hair, had red-rimmed eyes because of this uncertain news, humbling himself to the ground. "My son, my son can be saved!"
Winona felt no sympathy. With limited visiting time, she said her final words into the receiver, "Since I can contact the person, I can also get an appointment. I can help you with the money issue too. I'll come see you next Friday."
Next Friday was the start of a new month.
Winona's voice came through the receiver, and both Xavier and the prison guard heard it.
The guard looked at her as if she were a saint. It was hard to believe there was someone who could be so kind to the driver who had killed her mother.
Winona didn't care what the guard thought, as long as Xavier understood.
Austin stayed at Regal Oaks for only five days. As soon as he could walk a bit, he wanted to leave.
Winona saw him to the door, frowning. "Is everything resolved?"
Earlier, he didn't even dare return to the Robinson family, saying he needed a bodyguard to help him, afraid of exposing his identity.
He hadn't done much these past few days, barely making any phone calls.
Austin's leg injury hadn't healed, and he could barely stand. Walking from the room to the door had exhausted all his physical strength, so he had to lean against the door frame to talk to her.
Austin raised an eyebrow and asked playfully, "Are you caring about me?"
In the sunset, Austin squinted slightly against the sunlight, his body bathed in a soft golden glow. His lazy, arrogant smile and rakish aura would definitely attract a line of women wanting a one-night stand with him at a nightclub.
Winona was completely immune to his charm. His high school bully image was deeply rooted in her mind. She snapped, "What do you think? I brought you back and treated your wounds, and now you think I'd let you go off to die? Do I look that bored?"
Austin lowered his head, a low, hoarse laugh escaping his throat.
When he looked up again, the smile was gone from his face. His gaze was focused and deep, filled with complex emotions, as if he had many things to say but ultimately suppressed them all.
"Winona." Austin raised his hand, tucking a strand of her windblown hair behind her ear. His rough fingertip brushed against her earlobe and the skin connecting to her neck.
Unlike Zachary’s, Austin's fingertips were rough, causing a slight itch as they touched her skin. His hands were so warm.
Winona was momentarily stunned and instinctively leaned back, avoiding Austin's touch.
Austin suddenly reached out and pulled her into his arms.
It wasn't very gentlemanly, as Austin held her too tightly. Winona felt like his arm around her waist was about to break her, but it was a hug without any lust. It was more like a brother hugging his sister who was about to get married, filled with worry and reluctance, yet having to let go. "Goodbye, Winona," he whispered.
Winona felt silent.
It was just an ordinary farewell, but her hand, which was pushing against Austin's waist, suddenly lost its strength, and her eyes began to feel warm.
Austin's already low voice became even more hoarse. "From now on, I won't like you anymore."
"If Zachary treats you badly, I'll beat him up." Austin released her, his tone returning to its usual playful and roguish manner. "Come on, treat me as a brother, and I'll protect you for life."
Winona lowered her head, not letting him see her reddened eyes. "We were classmates, and we're the same age. Don't think you can take advantage of me."
"Being a month older still makes me your bro, even a day older counts," he paused, glancing towards the garden, and casually sighed, "Zachary, What a coincidence that you’re back."
Winona turned around to see Zachary walking towards them, his face tense, lips tightly pressed, and his expression dark and stormy.
