Chapter 504 Won't You Get Hit?
Winona rushed through a quick shower because she wasn't feeling great. When she got out, the room was empty, but she could hear Zachary's deep voice outside, chatting away in some foreign language.
She couldn't catch all the technical jargon, but it was clear he was talking business. Not sure if he was on a video call or just a regular phone call, and not wanting to blow his cover, Winona stayed put. Bored out of her mind, she texted Rebecca to vent about the lame TV show she was watching.
Rebecca hit her back with a crying emoji. Rebecca: [I'm begging for help with the unlucky guy in my family right now.]
Even through text, Winona could feel her frustration.
Winona: [What did Howard do this time?]
Rebecca: [He wants to switch his major to become a lawyer. No matter how much I try to talk him out of it, he won't budge. I don't know what kind of spell that jerk Anthony put on him to make him so stubborn. He won't listen to anyone...]
Winona: [Aren't they like, enemies?]
Last time at school, if Rebecca hadn't stepped in, Howard would've totally gone after Anthony. His anger seemed pretty real.
Rebecca: [Exactly! And now, Howard's got another reason to become a lawyer. He says he wants to beat Anthony in the workplace and make him apologize to me. Why can't he be more realistic? With a mind that takes forever to decide on buying a computer and still can't convince me, he thinks he can outsmart Anthony at work? I might as well marry Anthony off to make peace.]
Rebecca was in full-on rant mode. She'd been putting up with everything, finally getting Anthony to say "I'll think about it." Now that he was in the bathroom, she had a moment to breathe and felt a bit relieved.
But that didn't last long. Anthony's cold voice came from above her. "Who are you calling a jerk?"
The sudden voice nearly gave Rebecca a heart attack. It took her a second to realize who it was.
Caught talking smack, Rebecca's mind was now screaming "Fuck."
She forced a smile and turned to see Anthony standing behind her. Grinding her teeth discreetly, she said without moving her lips, "I was talking about myself."
She thought, 'Is this guy a ghost? He walks without making a sound.'
Anthony smirked and walked over to the booth across from her. "Wanna hear what you just said?"If it were any other time, Rebecca would've stormed off, not without giving him a piece of her mind first. But she needed his help now, so she had to swallow her rising temper. She forced a smile, trying to look sweet. "Sorry, I'm not very educated, and my words can be harsh. Mr. Lewis, please don't take it to heart and don't hold it against an illiterate person like me."
Anthony took a sip of his coffee, barely holding back a laugh. "Miss Davis, if you don't want to smile, you don't have to. It looks pretty creepy."
Rebecca fell silent, thinking, 'You're the creepy one. Your whole family is creepy.'
She didn't want to smile anyway. Since Anthony said that, she immediately dropped the act. "So, Mr. Lewis, have you made up your mind? If you have, I'll arrange for my troublesome brother to meet you right away."
Her family couldn't get through to Howard, so she had to turn to Anthony, the root of the problem. Rebecca continued, "When the time comes, you can explain to him how tough this profession really is. Use both logic and emotion to make your point. My brother might be a bit simple-minded, but he understands human conversation."
Anthony replied, "To me, there's nothing difficult about this profession. If he finds it tough, it means he's not cut out for it."
Rebecca pouted. She was the hardworking type in her studies. During high school, she stayed up late every night studying and barely made it into Dreamopolis University. She hated people like Anthony, who were naturally talented, played better than anyone, and scored higher than anyone.
Of course, she would never admit that her dislike was due to jealousy. She said, "Aren't you afraid of getting beaten up for saying things like that?"
Anthony replied, "Those who want to beat me can't, so I haven't been beaten yet."
Rebecca recalled seeing Anthony's well-toned muscles last time. They looked so good; they must feel even better.
Anthony had no idea what she was thinking. He said, "But I can try to persuade him. If you come to make peace, I won't let him win in court, but I can let him win in other ways. That way, he can consider himself victorious."
"In your dreams. Persuade him if you want, or I'll break his legs and see if he dares to switch majors." Rebecca finished her coffee in one gulp, snorted at Anthony, and walked out.
