Chapter 90 Winona's Husband's Premature Death
Cassie's husband was the second son of the Wood family. Although the Wood family couldn't be considered an aristocratic family, they were still extremely wealthy and had never been insulted like this before.
His face darkened. "Since you are Cassie's classmate, if you genuinely came to celebrate, we welcome you. But if you came to cause trouble..."
While speaking, his eyes subconsciously swept towards the entrance of the garden and he suddenly stopped.
He composed himself, no longer wasting time on talking to Winona, and quickly walked towards the car parked at the door. "Hello, Mr. Bailey."
He waited outside for Zachary even though the engagement banquet was about to start.
Zachary got out of the car and nodded slightly when he saw the groom waiting by the car. "No need to be so polite."
Jorge didn't change his attitude just because of Zachary's words. He gestured towards the entrance of the hall. "Please, go inside."
On this kind of occasion, the groom, dressed in formal attire, was supposed to be the centre of attention after the bride, but when standing next to Zachary, he looked like his subordinate.
Seeing Winona staring in that direction, Cassie sneered and rolled her eyes. "Why don't you take a look at your own worth? Even an ugly duckling dares to dream of becoming a swan. The person you're ogling is the only heir of the Bailey family, the current CEO of the Bailey Group. Out of consideration for our past as classmates, I advise you not to have any delusions..." Ah...
She pretended to be surprised and covered her mouth. "Almost forgot, you climbed into Mr. Bailey's bed, but even so, you couldn't secure the position of Mrs. Bailey."
Winona and Zachary had a secret marriage. Although their secret was revealed at Lydia's birthday banquet some time ago, only a few people knew about it.
"Cassie," Winona stepped closer to her, lips curling up. "I heard Jorge Wood is the good man you have finally stayed in bed with."
Cassie looked at her raised hand and took a step back in fear, "What do you want? This is the Wood family. If you dare to hit me..."
"What are you talking about? Why would I hit you?" Winona's hand fell on her shoulder with little force, "The bride must be beautiful, what's a slap mark on your face?"
Cassie forcefully calmed herself and pursed her lips. Her tense body relaxed, "Fine..."
"I won't hit you, but you have to apologize for what you said just now. Right there... in front of everyone."
"You're dreaming. I'm about to become Mrs. Wood, who do you think you are to make me apologize to you?"
She had always been suppressed by Winona in school, and now she finally had the upper hand. Did Winona expect her to apologize? No way!
Winona raised her phone, "Well, then everyone will know about those exciting videos with your ex-boyfriends. Do you think I would willingly come and let you humiliate me?"
Initially, she had no intentions of attending, but Lydia had called her last night and asked her to visit Grandpa Wood in her place.
Winona guessed it was probably an excuse. If it was really important, Lydia could have come herself, but she didn't want to disappoint her.
Cassie moved forward, intending to snatch it, "How dare you..."
Jorge walked over and saw the scene, "Cassie, what's going on?"
Upon hearing his voice, Cassie hastily let go and turned around with a smile, "Nothing... just remembered some unpleasant things from before."
"If the relationship is bad with her, let the bodyguard throw her out!"
Cassie still wanted a chance to get the video from Winona's hand. She couldn't just let her go so easily. Holding onto Jorge's arm, she smiled and said, "You misunderstood. Our relationship is good, we used to have playful fights like this all the time. By the way, Winona, why did you come alone? I heard you got married, why didn't you bring your husband? Did you get divorced?"
As she spoke, she glanced at Zachary nearby...
Unexpectedly, Mr. Bailey, who was always dignified and aloof according to rumors, was also interested in gossip and stood by to watch the scene.
"No, he..." Winona looked at Cassie with a smile, but in fact, she was looking at Zachary. Meeting his gaze, she provocatively raised her eyebrow, "He's dead."
Zachary squinted slightly, his tone extremely cold, "Miss Sullivan, a person as unlucky as you, do you even deserve to attend someone else's engagement party?"
"Mr. Bailey, you're being biased. Isn't my late husband the unlucky one? I don't know how many bad things he did, to have ended up with such a short life."
Later, the engagement party began and the butler came to invite people.
Jorge took Cassie inside and whispered in a voice only they could hear, "I don't care about your intentions in inviting Miss Sullivan..."
He was not stupid and could see that something was off between the two of them. "But I warn you, don't touch her."
Surprised, Cassie turned back. "The person you like is Winona?"
Their engagement was simply a transaction to meet each other's needs, and she knew that Jorge had a secret crush on someone else.
Jorge glanced at her, probably thinking she was too foolish to even deserve his disdain. "Something is going on between her and Mr. Bailey."
Cassie turned around and saw Winona and Zachary going their separate ways, looking no different from strangers.
She didn't believe that there was any real connection between them. And if there was, it must be a bad one, otherwise Winona would have asked for Zachary's help a long time ago.
She clenched her teeth, determined to retrieve the video!
Winona, on behalf of Lydia, visited Grandpa Wood and brought some pastries to a less crowded corner.
The engagement banquet was not grand. Cassie followed Jorge, thanking the guests everywhere. She felt uneasy, as if someone's eyes were constantly watching her. When she looked up, she met Winona's gaze.
Their eyes met, and Winona lifted her phone, clearly threatening Cassie.
That damn bitch!
Taking advantage of Jorge's socializing, Cassie whispered a few words to her best friend.
Of course, Winona naturally saw this scene.
"You dare act so arrogant on someone else's territory when you have no power. Winona, should I say you're stupid or fearless? Jorge may not have much interest in your classmate, but causing trouble at the engagement banquet is humiliating him. Do you think he will just stand by?" a mocking voice came from behind.
Winona turned around to see Zachary, who was previously surrounded by people but had somehow managed to break free. He stood behind her, looking down on her from a higher position with a clear expression of contempt.
Winona smiled, tilting her chin and giving off a cool and nonchalant air. "Well, what can I do? Unfortunately, I don't have Miss Clark's ability to coax a man into defending me. So, I have to take matters into my own hands."
