Chapter 685 Signing a Divorce Agreement

In the kitchen, half-chopped vegetables still lay on the cutting board, and their clothes were scattered across the floor. She raised her hand to cover her face, unable to look at the scene any longer.

Winona bent down to pick up the clothes one by one. When she picked up Zachary's suit, she paused.

It was a bit heavy; something was inside.

She felt around in his pocket and pulled out a small diary, about the size of her palm. The cover was made of kraft paper, and it wasn't very thick.

From the side, she could see the pages were slightly warped, indicating it had been written in.

Remembering Zachary had mentioned a diary before, Winona's heart started to race. She lost interest in cooking and took the diary out of the kitchen.

She turned on the floor lamp next to the sofa, sat cross-legged on the couch, took a deep breath, and then carefully opened the diary.

The first page had dates, followed by events.

"She was bullied by her stepmother and stepsister. When she came to school, there were scratches on her face, but she was happy. We met at the school gate, and she casually asked if I had breakfast. I had, but I said no. She gave me the bun she was about to throw away."

[Winona brought breakfast for Matthew, but he wasn't there. On her way back, she ran into the campus queen from the English department, who mocked her.]

[Winona was chased by loan sharks, and the Sullivan family villa was sealed. She moved into the cheapest basement apartment.]

[Winona agreed to marry me. We met at Brew & Bean. She was unhappy because we had sex, and she hated me for it. There was fear in her eyes when she looked at me.]

[Winona was bullied by her colleagues, who said she got her job through connections. I told her my mom wanted us to have dinner at the old house tonight. I hoped she would use the opportunity to announce our relationship, so no one at work would dare to mess with her anymore. I waited for her in the office for two hours, hoping she would come to me. But when I came out, I found she had already left. I called her and found out she had gone to the old house and had dinner.]

[Winona asked for a divorce.]

The content was plain but incredibly detailed, spanning a long period, all about her. Some things he hadn't written down, probably because he forgot.

There were no fancy words, but it was enough for Winona to feel the deep emotions. Through the cold text, she could feel his feelings slowly seeping into her heart.

He was afraid of forgetting, so he wrote down everything he remembered in great detail. From the wear on the edges of the diary, it was clear he often looked at it, to the point where the edges were frayed.

Winona bit her lip, her hand trembling slightly as she held the diary, afraid to damage it.

She found a pen and carefully wrote down the things Zachary had forgotten but she remembered, writing each word with great care.

She didn't remember the exact dates, so she wrote them all at the end.

As long as it happened, the exact date didn't matter.

Zachary probably wrote the dates to avoid being caught if she asked him about it. Thinking of this, Winona felt a pang of heartache.

She hadn't realized they had so many shared memories until she wrote them down. They had been through so much together, and she remembered every detail, even the emotions at the time.

Zachary's sleep had been getting worse lately, so he woke up early. He habitually reached out to pull Winona into his arms, but his hand found only empty space.

The sheets were cold, indicating she had been gone for a while.

Realizing this, he quickly turned to look beside him, but Winona was nowhere to be seen.

"Winona!" Zachary sat up in bed and called out.

"You're awake? Get up quickly. I've picked out your clothes; they're hanging on the rack. Call Dylan and tell him you're taking half a day off."

Winona was sitting at the vanity, finishing her makeup. She didn't even turn around when she heard him, just glanced at him in the mirror.

"What's going on?"

Zachary checked his phone's calendar. He had two important meetings in the morning and a lunch appointment.

"It's important," Winona said.

"Okay," he said, calling Dylan to clear his morning schedule. "What are we doing?"

"Don't ask, just get dressed. We're running out of time."

Zachary took the clothes Winona had prepared. They were very formal. After breakfast, they left the house before seven.

He was surprised when she brought him to the courthouse. It was still early, but there were already many people in line.

Winona's shoulders slumped, her earlier excitement fading. "Why are all these people here so early? It's not a special day."

She had hoped to be the first to register.

When they parked, Zachary might have thought she was taking him somewhere nearby, but her words made it clear.

Winona unbuckled her seatbelt, trying to comfort herself. "It's okay if we're not first."

She reached for the car door, but Zachary grabbed her hand, looking into her eyes. "Winona, I'm sick. I..."

"I know," Winona interrupted. "You have memory problems, confusion, insomnia, and intermittent headaches. But what does that have to do with us getting married today?"

Zachary felt a mix of excitement and anxiety. Once they registered, they would be officially married, and no one could take her away. Even if he forgot everything, Winona couldn't leave him.

But thinking about his illness, he hesitated. He couldn't be selfish. No one knew how bad his condition might get. What if Winona regretted it later?

"Winona, I'm afraid you'll regret this..."

His voice was small, full of doubt.

"Then after we register, you can sign a divorce agreement. If I ever regret it, we can get divorced," Winona said.

Zachary immediately gave in. He had dreamed of getting back together, and now that Winona had brought him here, he couldn't resist. "Do we have all the documents? If we're missing anything, I'll have Dylan bring it."

"We have everything."

They got out of the car, and Winona handed him her bag. "I'm going to the restroom. You get in line."

When she came out, she saw Zachary at the front of the line, even though they should have been much further back. She hurried over, covering her mouth and whispering, "Did you cut in line?"

Zachary shrugged, a mischievous grin on his face. "I might have mentioned I had a medical condition. They were pretty understanding."

Winona couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "You’re impossible."

"Hey, anything for you," he said, pulling her close. "Let's do this."
