Chapter 30 Save You Thirty Million Dollars
He brought up Matthew again!
"This is between us. Can you not involve unrelated people?"
"You didn't have such awareness when you mentioned Fiona."
Winona sarcastically replied, "Is she an unrelated person?"
Zachary didn't say anything, but his eyes clearly implied that she was being unreasonable.
"Can an unrelated person flaunt your supplementary card? Swiping it for millions of dollars?"
Zachary's supplementary card had an unlimited credit limit, how could an unrelated person have such privileges?
The man frowned, "Who told you?"
"Naturally, it was your sweetheart."
The peculiar term "sweetheart" made Zachary furrow his brow even more. He held Winona's chin with his long fingers and examined her as if she were an object. "How can you be so foolish to have lived this long?"
"Zachary, you..."
Before Winona could retort, the waiter began serving the dishes one by one. She brushed his hand away and maintained a safe distance between him.
The mother-in-law had specially ordered a bottle of wine for the couple. Winona didn't touch her glass, and she ate her meal in silence, remaining quiet throughout.
Midway through, Zachary's phone rang. It was placed on the table, and the screen's light shone into her eyes. She happened to see "Fiona" displayed on it.
Faced with the appetizing dishes, Winona instantly lost her appetite. She absentmindedly poked at her food without much interest.
After taking a glance, Zachary put down his utensils, picked up the phone, and leaned back against the soft chair backrest. "What's the matter?"
A few seconds later, the man's face visibly darkened. "I know now."
He hung up the phone and stood up, saying to Winona, "Something came up with Fiona, I'll go check it out."
Winona was prepared for this and showed no change in her emotions. How many times had he abandoned her for Fiona's phone calls?
She had long gotten used to it.
Besides, she found it annoying to even look at him now. If he couldn't let go, why didn't he just divorce her?
Wouldn't it be more honest to openly stand by Fiona's side?
They were seated by the window, and through the transparent glass, Winona watched as he bent down and got into the car.
"Winona?" At that moment, a familiar voice sounded above her head.
Winona looked up and saw Matthew standing in front of her. After a momentary pause, she regained her composure and said, "What a coincidence, you're here to eat?"
Their relationship wasn't bad; otherwise, she wouldn't have been the first one to think of asking him for help.
When it comes to asking for assistance, it's either a favor if someone agrees or a responsibility if they decline. She wasn't petty enough to hold a grudge against Matthew for his past refusals.
As for the audio incident... maybe it really was a misunderstanding. Since he said it wasn't him that day, she chose to believe him.
"This restaurant is owned by a friend of mine."
"I need to talk to him," Matthew noticed the extra set of utensils on the table and glanced around, "Did you have dinner with Zachary?"
Winona instinctively denied, "No, I had dinner with a friend, but she had something come up and left early."
Subconsciously, she didn't want anyone to know that she was left alone in the restaurant by her husband.
Matthew remained silent for a few seconds, choosing not to expose her lie, "I haven't eaten yet either, mind if I join you?"
As he asked, he was already sitting down, leaving Winona no choice but to swallow her refusal, "...Sure, have a seat."
Matthew motioned for the waiter, cleared the nearly untouched dishes on the table, and ordered a few more, "Try the signature dishes here."
Although Winona had just finished eating, she could only nod at this point in time.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Zachary got into the car and instructed Brian, "Go to Willow Manor."
Before Brian started the car, he glanced at the sky through the windshield, "Sir, isn't Madam joining you? The weather forecast says there will be a heavy rainstorm tonight, and it looks like it will come soon."
"After you drop me off, you can come back to pick her up."
Zachary took out his phone, thinking of sending a message to let Winona wait at the restaurant, but considering her current temper, she probably wouldn't listen. So he took an umbrella from the car and got out.
In the restaurant, Matthew looked at Winona, who seemed absent-minded sitting across from him, and casually asked, "You don't look too well, is something wrong?"
Winona didn't think she appeared unwell, but hearing Matthew's inquiry, she instinctively touched her face.
Seeing her subconscious gesture, Matthew smiled gently and served a bowl of soup next to her, saying, "Do you need any help?"
Winona knew it was just a polite question, and she didn't really want to ask Matthew for help with the three billion dollars. After all, it was not a small amount of money.
But with the atmosphere at this point, she propped her chin and jokingly said, "Help me? Then lend me three billion dollars, hmm?"
Matthew looked at Winona, seemingly judging the sincerity behind her words. After a few seconds, he asked, "Why not ask Zachary for money if you're short? He doesn't lack that amount of money."
Winona lowered her gaze, and the dim light fell on her face, making her complexion appear somewhat pale.
Zachary may not lack that amount of money, but all his money is used to support Fiona!
Thinking about those troublesome matters made her annoyed, so she stopped talking and started drinking. Soon, she finished the bottle of wine that Lydia ordered. At this moment, under the influence of alcohol, she didn't care about anything and her flushed face exuded a self-mocking smile.
Matthew didn't stop her from drinking. Sometimes, drowning sorrows in alcohol was a way of catharsis.
Winona picked up the bottle of wine and thought of pouring more, but noticed that Matthew's glass was also empty, so she poured him a glass as well.
"A toast?"
Winona lifted her glass, subtly curving her lips, a smile that could attract any man unconsciously.
Matthew was also a normal man. Realizing his momentary distraction, he lifted the glass to take a sip, but suddenly, a sneering voice came from behind "You dare to drink the wine she spilled?"
