Chapter 77 She Stayed at Matthew's Place Last Night
Matthew looked at the menu and replied without hesitation after hearing what was said, "Winona wouldn't do such a thing. If she really wanted to introduce someone to me, she would ask for my opinion first. Miss Sullivan, if you enjoy stirring up trouble, please find another table."
Winona raised an eyebrow in surprise. Their relationship wasn't strong enough for Matthew to unconditionally trust her. In the past, he would probably try to deflect the situation with a less awkward conversation. He had never been so impolite even with women who were more stubborn and willful than Layla.
Layla blushed, feeling embarrassed and wanting to disappear. Although Matthew's voice wasn't loud and the tables weren't close, the restaurant was crowded. She felt like everyone was watching her, and even the indistinct whispers seemed mocking. She bit her lip and quietly said, tears welling up, "Matthew, you misunderstood me. I didn't...I didn't lie. It's true that Winona promised to introduce us..."
Matthew interrupted, "Sorry, I'm not used to being addressed by someone I don't know. You can call me 'Mr. Watson'."
Unable to hold back, Winona chuckled softly. Men could actually tell the difference between a venomous snake and a good woman; it was just a matter of whether they were willing to be deceived. Zachary was willing, and willingly deceived.
This time, Layla couldn't bear it. She didn't expect someone like Matthew, who appeared elegant, to speak so harshly to a girl, especially in front of Winona. It was like tearing off her face and trampling it on the ground. She no longer bothered with maintaining appearances; she stood up abruptly, and glared at the two in front of her with her eyes filled with anger, "You two have gone too far." Then she turned around and ran away.
But as soon as she left the restaurant, Layla regretted it. She had already paid the bill, so why shouldn't she enjoy her meal? She turned back and deliberately chose a hidden spot where she could still see Winona, taking out her phone and filming the two of them.
She was determined to make that bitch couple pay.
Winona summarized the situation and emphasized the main points to Matthew, "I apologize. I was planning to talk to you before going out for a meal and ask for your opinion. I didn't expect to run into this today."
Matthew smiled helplessly and said, "You should have told me earlier. Will she use your mother's belongings to threaten you now?"
"I don't think there's much left of what my mother left behind," Winona didn't want to continue this topic, "I just didn't expect you to be so direct."
"I'm protective of my friends and can't stand seeing them bullied by unrelated people."
Winona thought that protection shouldn't be used in this way, but she couldn't seem to find fault with it...
What's wrong?
After finishing their meal, Matthew walked Winona to the entrance of the apartment building. "Rest early," he said.
Winona replied, "Sure, I really appreciate everything about the house. I transferred the rent to you, remember to check it."
She had just checked the rental prices in this area, and she transferred an additional $1,000 to Matthew compared to the market price. After all, his house was move-in ready, clean, and even provided bedding.
Zachary had been busy with several meetings all day, and when he finally saw the messages Winona had sent, several hours had already passed.
He stared at the phone screen, infuriated by the vulgar and offensive words, his temples throbbing with anger.
He immediately dialed Winona's number but received a message saying, "Sorry, the number you dialed is currently in use."
After fifteen minutes, he dialed again, but it was still the same.
Zachary looked at Winona's name on the screen and couldn't help but laugh in anger. His deep eyes darkened as if he could freeze everything in sight.
Just then, Dylan walked in holding some documents for him to review. Zachary said, "Send a message to Winona and tell her that if she doesn't move back to Regal Oaks, she'll be sleeping on the streets from now on."
These past few days, Dylan had been responsible for contacting Mrs. Sullivan's landlord, applying pressure on her. Today, he even prevented her from renting a new place. His conscience was being greatly condemned, while feeling that Mr. Bailey's actions might cost him his wife.
The atmosphere at the Bailey Group's headquarters had become so tense that even using the restroom felt nerve-wracking. "Mr. Bailey, knowing Mrs. Sullivan's temperament, she would probably prefer to sleep on the streets rather than be threatened by you and move back..." Why else would things have come to this point?
Seeing Zachary's indifference, Dylan tentatively added, "Why don't you buy her a gift to appease Mrs. Sullivan?"
Zachary looked at him with a wicked smile, "She slapped me, and now I have to buy her a gift to appease her? Do you think I'm like you, an undignified pursuer?"
Dylan knew all the details about his past through his college sweetheart.
He had been abandoned before, and now that he saw that woman again, he tried to win her back, only to find that she was already with someone else and didn't care about him at all.
Dylan replied, "I will send a message to Mrs. Sullivan now, word for word, and make sure your intentions are conveyed accurately."
Winona received Dylan's message while lying on the soft bed in her apartment after taking a shower.
After reading the content of the message, she smirked and completely ignored it...
The next day, Winona went to a store specialized in selling art supplies and bought some tools. She temporarily ignored the suspension from her studio because they had previously agreed on it. It was just a temporary job to help out, and she had a few freelance projects to work on during this time.
Zachary had no idea that she was Windy, so naturally, he didn't know that her side job would hinder her.
Thinking about this, Winona couldn't help but smile self-deprecatingly. With Zachary's power, it would be impossible for him not to find out if he truly wanted to investigate. However, it was because he didn't care that the people below didn't pay much attention.
She needed to be a bit more serious to avoid spreading false news about her working as a cleaner at View Studio.
So, apart from moving houses, her life hasn't been greatly affected.
Compared to Winona's contentment, the atmosphere at the Bailey Group was miserable. After another executive was scolded by Mr. Bailey and walked out of the office with a pale face, Dylan, taking a deep breath, knocked on the door when going inside.
"Mr. Bailey."
Zachary stared expressionlessly at the documents in front of him. "Where did she stay last night?"
She couldn't rent a place, and the hotel wouldn't dare to give her a room. She hadn't gone to Rebecca's place either. Besides going back to the Bailey family, where else could she go?
Dylan's hair stood on end, and he nervously replied, "Mrs. Sullivan stayed at Mr. Watson's apartment last night."
