Chapter 267 She Never Thought Of Relying On Him

Zachary actually wanted to throw a tantrum.

Last night, Winona mentioned the trick of luring the enemy to him. He disagreed, but this woman was not consulting with him at all. She had already decided everything, and talking to him was just to have more security.

He said he would consider it, but she was not willing to wait even for that short time. Just when he had an urgent meeting in the afternoon and left for a few hours, something happened.

But seeing Winona weakly leaning there, her eyes red and watery, staring at him, Zachary couldn't muster any anger.

Zachary pursed his lips, his Adam's apple rolling up and down. It took him a while to barely suppress the anger in his heart, and he said coldly, "Have you always been this reckless?"

Back then, and now.

"If you think there's something suspicious about Mom's death, I can help you investigate; you don't need to take such risks. How dared you take such risks? You don't even know the other party's identity, you..."

Zachary realized that his emotions were getting a bit out of control. He took a deep breath and stopped speaking.

The way he said 'Mom' was too natural, and Winona didn't even react. "But people always have to take some risks to achieve their wishes."

Winona had waited too long. All the clues were cut off, and there was no way forward. She had to break a new path, even if it was just a narrow, straight line.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have chosen to expose her identity. She didn't like being in the spotlight, and her mother didn't like her to be in the spotlight either.

Although it was a bit risky, the facts proved that her thinking was correct.

The people at the villa, Mrs. Hall, and the two mysterious men who had just appeared, all the forces were gradually revealing themselves.

Zachary bent down and looked at Winona in the car. "You can rely on me."

Winona shook her head, then nodded. "I did ask for your help."

She took a risk, but she didn't intend to really risk her life. She valued her life.

Zachary fell silent.

Zachary felt that she would eventually drive him crazy.

She wasn't asking for his help. She clearly just wanted an extra bodyguard.

Zachary reached out and carried her out of the car. "I will investigate the matter. You don't need to worry about it. Go back to Dreamopolis tomorrow, stay put during this time, don't think about your mother's matters again, and don't take any risks."

After putting Winona in his car, the accompanying people finished inspecting the scene. "Mr. Bailey, it's very clean. It's difficult to check the other party's identity."

Winona said, "Did you see a duck-shaped brooch? It has a bug and a camera inside."

The security company she contacted gave it to her, and she just received it at noon today.

The man shook his head. "We checked inside and outside the car; we didn't find the brooch you mentioned."

The other party dared to kidnap someone directly, which meant they had not only a deep background but also powerful means. Zachary wasn't surprised that the surveyors couldn't find any clues.

"Let's report to the police first."

Since his surveyors couldn't find anything, Zachary didn't expect the police to find anything useful either. It was just a procedure. There had to be a reason why they left a car here. If it was dealt with directly and later found by the police, it would be a hidden danger. "Figure out a proper excuse; Don't let them find their way to Mrs. Bailey."

Zachary got into the car, noticed Winona with her eyes half-closed, looking tired, and instructed the driver, "Go to the hospital."

Winona was almost falling asleep, but when she heard this, she opened her eyes. "I'm fine. I just inhaled a bit of a sedative, and I'm feeling a bit drowsy. There's no need to go to the hospital; just take me back to the hotel to sleep."

"Go to the hospital."

"I'm not going to the hospital."

The driver remained silent.

Who the heck should he listen to?

Zachary gritted his teeth. "Winona, I'm not discussing this with you. I'm not in a good mood right now, so be obedient. I don't want to use harsh means on you, making you feel like I'm forcing you."

What did "just inhaled a bit of a sedative" mean?

Even a slight overdose of sedatives could be fatal.

Winona didn't say anything. She really didn't have the strength to argue with him, and she couldn't win. She thought that Zachary was very stubborn and that he wouldn't listen to others.

The drug hadn't worn off completely; Winona had just managed to wake up relying on sheer willpower. Now sitting in Zachary's car, she felt a sense of calm and almost fell asleep in a second.

Zachary was still waiting for her to argue with him, but he felt the weight on his left shoulder.

He turned his head and found Winona had already fallen asleep on his shoulder, her long eyelashes casting a deep shadow on her face.

Zachary took Winona to the hospital for a check-up, confirmed that there was nothing wrong, and then drove back to the hotel.

Winona was still asleep, and Zachary didn't wake her up. He carried her directly upstairs.

Matthew stood anxiously at Winona's room door, pacing back and forth. It wasn't too late, and the others hadn't returned yet, but her phone was unreachable; he was worried, so he waited there.

Seeing Zachary coming out of the elevator carrying Winona, he walked up a few steps. "What's wrong with her?"

Zachary said lightly, "Her legs are weak. She can't walk."

Technically, it wasn't wrong to say that because Winona had indeed taken a sedative and couldn't walk.

But the phrase "her legs are weak" could easily be misunderstood.

Matthew's face darkened slightly. "You can't fool me a second time with the same excuse."

"I won't use the same excuse to deceive people."

What a jerk! Matthew really wanted to punch Zachary.

Winona leaned against Zachary, sleeping soundly, completely unaware that her reputation had been tarnished by him again.

Zachary walked past Matthew to the door. The room key was in Winona's bag. He had been carrying her all the way. His arms were already a bit sore, and he couldn't reach for the card now. "Winona said you are very attentive. Shouldn't you come over and open the door?"

Matthew was so angry that he wanted to leave directly, but he knew that if he left, Zachary would definitely take the opportunity to stay in Winona's room again tonight.

He walked over angrily and took out the room key to open the door.

Zachary laid her on the bed, then went to the bathroom to get a wet towel to wipe her face and hands.

Matthew stood there. He wasn't a teenager anymore, and he wouldn't lose his temper just because of verbal taunts. "What happened to Winona?"

Why was she sleeping so deeply? Something was off.

Zachary said, "Nothing happened. Even if there had been, I've already taken care of it. You can go back to your room."

After taking advantage of Matthew, Zachary began to urge him to leave.

Matthew asked, "Want to have a drink with me upstairs?"

"Not interested," Zachary replied.

"Don't you want to know something about Winona's past, like how she used to view you back then?"
