Chapter 46 He's Doing It for Her Sake

Zachary frowned. "If you want to cause trouble, do it in the right place. Today's occasion isn't suitable for your antics. Both Mother and the Bailey family can't afford to lose face."

"Is it Mother and the Bailey family who can't afford to lose face, or is it Fiona?" Winona laughed out of anger, her words sharp. "If I leave now, everyone will say I'm guilty. Before tomorrow comes, people in these circles will know that my master's skills are inadequate, and the restored artworks have flaws. They will call me a fraud!"

For certain reasons, she didn't want Zachary to discover that she was Windy, and there was no need for him to know.

"What do you want then? To repair that painting?" Zachary didn't understand the restoration field, and he had never heard of Windy. He only thought Windy was just another employee at View Studio. "You, a janitor, think you've learned it all by watching for a few days?"

In his understanding, Winona was a cleaner at the cultural relic restoration studio. This was the information Dylan personally investigated and reported to him. Zachary was well aware of Dylan's capabilities.

Winona started doing few things with the painting to remove the issue.

"Who is lying between Winona and Miss Clark?" A familiar voice came from beside him, and Zachary glanced at the belated Matthew. He hadn't seen him earlier and thought he wouldn't come tonight.

Zachary frowned and didn't take the drink Matthew handed over. "Winona? When did you become so close to her?"

Matthew could sense the displeasure in Zachary's words and chuckled helplessly. "I've always called her that."

"But you call Fiona is Miss Clark."

Matthew paused for a moment and pondered, "I really don't know Miss Clark well."

He had known Winona a few years ago, and at that time, he often saw her because of her pursuit. Over time, they became somewhat familiar.

As for Fiona, if it weren't for Zachary, he wouldn't have had any interaction with a dancer in his lifetime.

Matthew didn't enjoy watching dance performances.

Zachary's mood didn't improve as a result. He remained silent, his eyes piercing, staring at the woman surrounded by them...

It seemed like a while had passed before the restoration was finally completed.

Winona picked up the painting and handed it to Lydia, saying, "Mom, take a look. Is it exactly the same as before?"

The painting belonged to the old man, and Lydia could only take a quick glance. How could she distinguish any differences? But since her daughter-in-law said it was the same, it must be!

"Yes, it's the same. Winona is really amazing. She can fix even such complicated things. Not like some people who are full of ill intentions and lack any strengths," Lydia said, expressing strong disdain.

Fiona felt the intense contempt coming her way.

She suspected that Winona had cast a spell on Lydia!

Winona then turned her gaze to Fiona and said, "Miss Clark, do you think that there's a flaw that even an apprentice like me couldn't repair? As a prominent figure in the circle, can't Windy, my teacher, properly fix it?"

"You had such an obvious flaw to pick on? The painting has just been restored and needs proper maintenance. I've given you the instructions and precautions. Instead of blaming others if something goes wrong, you should think about whether you didn't do a good job in post-restoration maintenance."

As soon as she said that, everyone's attention turned to Fiona. Although it wasn't expressed too directly, the intention of watching a show was evident.

Even Fiona, who had been on big stages, felt flustered. She subconsciously turned her head to find Zachary's figure, hoping he would speak up. But when she saw his eyes fixed straight on Winona, her heart twisted with unspoken bitterness...

But the current situation was tricky, and she couldn't lose her composure. She could only force herself to remain calm and said, "I'm sorry. I just said that it might not be Windy's fault, but ultimately, I'm at fault for making unfounded suspicions without investigating thoroughly. Winona, I apologize to you, and I'm willing to compensate for any damage to Windy's reputation caused by my words. I'll prepare a gift as an apology another day."

Under normal circumstances, the conversation would have ended there. After all, it was Lydia's birthday tonight, and it wouldn't be good for anyone to argue too much. But Fiona didn't expect that Winona wouldn't give her an easy way out!

Winona chuckled and said, "So it's not Windy's fault, but mine? After all, among all the people who had contact with this painting throughout the whole process, apart from Windy, it's only you and me."

Suddenly, Fiona's heart skipped a beat.

As expected, Winona's next words were, "I have evidence to prove that the mistake didn't happen in my part."
