Chapter 233 A Kick Down
After Winona was dragged away by Zachary, Matthew and Austin followed. Samuel stood up. He and Matthew were brothers, so it wasn't right to interfere, but he could still stop someone else. He took a step forward and stood in front of Austin, with a slight smile on his lips and a polite expression in his eyes. "Mr. Robinson, can we talk?"
Austin narrowed his eyes, casually tilted his head, and smiled. "Sure, what do you want to talk about? Julia?"
Samuel's attitude had clearly cooled compared to before as he looked at Austin. "What do you call her?"
"My little sister. We're somewhat acquainted. We see each other on special occasions. When she was just recognized by the family, I was the one showing her around New York."
Samuel was unaware of this. While their families had a good relationship, they were not in the same social circle as the Robinson family. Moreover, Austin had gone to a military academy for college and rarely came back. So, while the elders might know each other, the younger generation was quite unfamiliar, not even reaching the level of acquaintances.
Austin raised an eyebrow. "So, Samuel, what do you want to talk to me about?"
Perhaps the use of Samuel in addressing him pleased Samuel, as his expression softened, and he took a step back. "It's nothing, just wanted to tell you to hurry. Zachary probably didn't really take Winona to court."
As Austin was chasing after them, Matthew returned with a cold expression. It was not easy to make this gentleman, who usually wore a gentle mask, look so unpleasant. "What happened?"
Matthew didn't answer him and walked straight toward another exit. Austin glanced at the tightly closed door and followed Matthew without hesitation. When they circled from the back to the front, he finally understood why Matthew had turned back.
A shiny metal U-shaped lock hung conspicuously on the splendid handle of the glass door. There was no need to think about who put it there. Zachary was truly disgusting. After this delay, there was no one left in the parking lot, not even a shadow to be seen. Matthew was calling Winona. The latest popular single played in the quiet train compartment, Winona's ringtone.
Fortunately, she felt cold after entering the lobby, so she put on her coat and kept her phone in her pocket. Just as Winona saw the name displayed on the screen, a hand reached over from her side, snatched her phone, and threw it out of the open window in one swift motion. The phone silently rolled into the grass by the roadside.
She turned her head to look at the phone, now buried in the grass, and shouted at the man beside her, "Zachary, you park the car for me." Although she didn't buy this phone with her own money, it took her a long time to set it up the way she liked. Besides, she transferred the money to him, and he refused to accept it.
Zachary didn't even glance at her, completely unfazed. "I'll buy you another one after I come down from the mountain." He turned his head, interrupting what Winona wanted to say with a smirk. "Having two phones after the divorce is better than having just one, don't you think?"
Winona cursed him in her mind and looked up at the winding mountain road ahead. "The courthouse is at the top of the mountain?" Zachary pursed his lips and remained silent for a while before reluctantly speaking, "Both parties need to agree to remarry."
You turned out to be someone who understands the law. "Why are you taking me to the mountaintop?" Winona looked at the increasingly tall trees. "It can't be that you're so angry that you want to kill and dispose of me, right?"
Zachary felt a pain in his chest from her words but suppressed his anger. "The weather station said there will be a total lunar eclipse at 8:25 tonight. There's an observatory on the mountaintop with a good view. It used to be a popular spot for astronomers."
However, now, lesser people went. It was located far, and there were more suitable places. Winona didn't like looking at the moon or have any interest in astronomical phenomena. But if she went with a boyfriend or husband, she could consider it a romantic gesture. However, they were an ex-wife and an ex-husband who had just gone through a divorce trial. It wasn't a life-and-death situation, but it was far from pleasant. Going to see a total lunar eclipse in this situation, was it a wish for the moon to fall and kill the other person?
She said mockingly, "Do you think, given our relationship, it's suitable for us to go and see this total lunar eclipse?" "Why can't ex-husbands and ex-wives go? It's not like we're having an affair," Zachary replied.
"Ex-husband and ex-wife," Winona corrected him. "So, ex-husbands and ex-wives are no longer considered spouses?" The car stopped halfway, and they had to walk a short distance to reach the observatory. Since not many people came here, the path was a bit deserted, with potholes making it difficult to walk.
Winona looked up and could only see trees. As for the observatory Zachary mentioned, there was no sign of it. "I'm not interested in watching the moon."
"I am," he said, holding Winona's hand. His cold voice carried a hint of melancholy.
"After we finish, I'll take you back, and you can still join your company's team building tomorrow."
Zachary lowered his head, interlacing their fingers in a tight grip, palm against palm.
"Maybe you'll make me happy, and I won't bother you for a long time." It was indeed a tempting offer.
Seeing the hesitation in her eyes, Zachary felt a mix of bitterness and regret. Eclipses and all that couldn't pique his interest.
But on the way here, Samuel mentioned the lunar eclipse tonight, suggesting that he could bring Winona to see it. He said women liked romance, and this astronomical phenomenon was a rare and impressive sight, more captivating than ordinary fireworks or light shows. In the midst of such awe, a woman's emotions would be heightened. Perhaps her mind would be blank, and she would agree to reconcile.
The mountain path was difficult, and they were unprepared for this impromptu decision, lacking any climbing gear. Looking at the endless mountain road ahead, Zachary remembered his conversation with Samuel in the car. "It's a great opportunity. Do you want me to bring Julia along too? Maybe she'll have a change of heart and be willing to reconcile with you."
Samuel showed no interest. "Forget it. The mountain is steep. I'm afraid she'll kick me off." The fear of getting kicked off was clearly just laziness that kept her from climbing the mountain. Winona had sat in the office every day, her exercise routine sorely lacking. Suddenly climbing a mountain, with the pleasant surroundings, did pique her interest. She looked at the trees on both sides. "There won't be any fierce wild animals, right?"
"Coyotes."
In this forest, which had been developed into a resort, there were no fierce animals. After walking for about an hour, Winona finally saw the so-called observatory.
