Chapter 62 Zachary Wants to Shirk Responsibility!

"Matthew, this is a matter between my wife and me."

Zachary's voice tightened, making it clear that as an outsider, you were not suitable to interfere.

The situation became increasingly ambiguous, with a seemingly imperceptible scent of gunpowder in the air, mixed with the faint smell of blood and Mr. Miller's occasional painful howls, as if it could explode at any moment.

However, Matthew remained indifferent and calmly said, "Zachary, your emotions tonight are not suitable for further discussion. Take care of things here first, and I'll help you take Winona home."

His gaze swept across the corridor, and Zachary, with his peripheral vision, also glanced around. Many room doors were open, and the commotion just now was quite loud, drawing the attention of other guests. They were now hiding behind their doors, watching the spectacle, with some secretly recording on their phones...

Zachary's face remained cold, and his gaze returned to Winona. She had rushed out earlier, wearing only her pajamas. Although the style was conservative, it still revealed her alluring curves.

He took off his coat without saying a word and draped it over Winona's body.

Winona frowned, wanting to refuse, but as soon as her hand lifted, she heard the man's frigid voice, "Do you want to go out dressed like this?"

She hadn't had the leisure to think about anything amidst the tense atmosphere earlier. But now, upon hearing Zachary's words and seeing his gaze on her, she instinctively hid behind Matthew.

Winona didn't care whether he was angry or not, "You should leave your clothes for Fiona to wear. Matthew should have spare clothes in his car."

Zachary's voice grew even colder, "Matthew is a germophobe. He won't casually lend his clothes to someone else."

Matthew raised an eyebrow, "I..."

Before he could finish with "I'm not a germaphobe," he locked eyes with Zachary.

Though no words were exchanged, the message was clear.

Matthew pursed his lips, finding it amusing in his heart. Did Zachary see him as a rival?

Not wanting Zachary to misunderstand, he had no choice but to go along with it, "Yes, I am a germophobe. Winona, just wear it. It was originally yours anyway."

"Even if you don't want it, don't sell things to unrelated people at a low price."

Unexpectedly, Matthew, a suave gentleman, would make such subtle remarks. But Winona couldn't help but admit that these words significantly improved her mood, so she didn't bother about her clothes anymore.

Zachary buttoned up her shirt and said to Winona, pursing his lips, "Give me a call after you go back."

Winona didn't respond.

Once they entered the elevator, the woman's tense emotions finally relaxed. Exhaustion poured over her, and she weakly leaned against the elevator wall, saying to Matthew, "It's troublesome for you to keep running back and forth. How about lending me your car?"

Afraid that Matthew might not feel at ease, considering that cars are generally not loaned out, she added, "I drive very safely. I haven't had any accidents since getting my driver's license, nor have I received any traffic violations."

Matthew chuckled lightly, "Are you planning to make a vow next?"

Winona said, "Well, I never thought Matthew was a funny person."

"I promised Zachary that I'll safely return you home. If I give you the car now and let you drive back by yourself, it's fine if nothing happens. But if something does happen, based on his threat to Mr. Miller just now, I think I'll have to make a trip to the ICU."

Winona glanced at him, not knowing why he thought like that. When Zachary attacked Mr. Miller a moment ago, it was not because of her, but because Mr. Miller had tarnished Fiona's reputation.

She smiled coyly, "You're overthinking it. Just try not to offend Fiona if nothing's wrong. Otherwise, Zachary might really do something to please that beautiful woman and backstab his friends. After all, scumbags usually have no bottom line."

Matthew had witnessed the whole incident, including the mention of Fiona, and instantly understood the meaning behind her words.

"I believe Zachary acted because of you?"

Winona looked up, a shocked look in her eyes, as if saying, "What nonsense are you talking about?"

Matthew's thin lips curled up, warmth evident in his brows and eyes. "Don't underestimate yourself. Some things can't be judged solely based on appearances."

Winona didn't want to discuss this topic any further. Matthew was Zachary's friend, so he would definitely advocate for reconciliation rather than separation. She decided to change the subject.

"By the way, how did you happen to be here just now?"

She remembered Matthew lived on the fifteenth floor...

"I had some business downstairs, took the secure passage, and coincidentally heard your voice, so I came to take a look."

"Oh, that was lucky. Thank you."

During the remaining time, Winona was extremely tired and ended up falling asleep on the way back. In the end, it was Matthew who woke her up.

She thanked him and hurriedly entered the apartment building after opening the car door.

As for informing Zachary about her safety, she definitely wouldn't do it.

Right now, Zachary... Who knows, he might be on the phone with Fiona!

Two days passed, everything was calm, but Winona couldn't find peace.

She originally thought that she would quickly receive a notification confirming the repayment of the three billion dollars, but so far, nothing had happened.

"It's been two days, and neither Zachary nor Anthony has contacted," Winona thought. So she decided to call Zachary herself and ask, "When are you going to repay the debt from before?"

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, and then Winona heard a man's voice saying, "The meeting is on hold."

She didn't know he was in a meeting, but that was fine. After about ten seconds, Zachary's cold voice came through again, "The partnership didn't work out, so the agreement to offset the three billion dollars is void."

"What are you saying?!" Winona exclaimed.

Zachary didn't repeat himself. He was certain that she had heard him clearly, but couldn't accept it at the moment. Winona took a full half minute to digest before finally confirming... this bastard was trying to back out of his agreement!

"According to our agreement, signing the contract should have covered the three billion dollars I owe. The contract was signed, so why are you going back on your word?"

Although she had a feeling that things might not go smoothly, which is why she included the additional condition of ten million dollars as compensation for her hard work, Winona didn't expect the final twist to come from Zachary.

Compared to her strong emotions, Zachary remained calm as if stating a fact, "It was because of you that the contract was destroyed. You are responsible."

"Fuck you!" Winona exploded in anger, "You tore up the contract unilaterally because of Fiona, what does that have to do with me? My job was only to accompany you and secure the contract. Once signed, my mission was complete. Whether it succeeded afterwards or not, it’s not my problem!"

After hearing these words, Zachary's face turned extremely gloomy on the other end of the line...
