Chapter 399 I'm Pregnant

Anthony glanced down at his chest, his soaked shirt sticking to him and showing off the smooth lines of his torso.

He was holding a briefcase, all suited up and clearly here for business.

The tension hung in the air for what felt like forever, especially for Rebecca. She remembered promising Anthony she'd stay away from him, yet here they were again, just days later.

Fate had a funny way of bringing enemies back together.

A middle-aged woman, probably the client, nervously said, "Mr. Lewis, you should dry off first."

She frantically searched for some tissues.

Anthony brushed his wet shirt with his hand and said coldly, "Miss Davis, how did you manage to grow up safely?"

Wherever she went, trouble followed. She was like a walking disaster, bringing bad luck to everyone around her.

Rebecca forced a dry smile. "I guess I'm a disaster magnet."

"Miss Davis, you're pretty good at analyzing yourself."

Rebecca was annoyed. She could joke about herself, but she wouldn't let others do it. After all, she was the victim here. Anthony was ignoring the real culprits and targeting her instead. He was doing it on purpose.

Rebecca snapped, "Anthony, just because you're a lawyer doesn't mean I..."

Winona quickly covered Rebecca's mouth, stopping her mid-sentence. Rebecca looked at Winona with a hurt expression. "You're my friend; how could you side with him?"

"I'm not siding with him. I just want you to calm down first. If you still want to curse him out after calming down, I'll hand you some water."

From past experiences, Rebecca knew she always ended up losing in front of Anthony.

Rebecca stayed quiet for a moment.

She pushed Winona's hand away. The past incidents were still fresh in her mind. To avoid getting dragged to court or jail by Anthony, she decided to hold back. When it came to being serious, no one could outdo him.

Unable to vent her anger on Anthony, she turned her fury towards the two oddballs.

The woman who had splashed the water was now scared, hiding behind the man who had just returned from studying abroad, clutching his shirt and staying silent.

Rebecca said, "You were pretty bold when you splashed the water. Why are you scared now?"

The woman was afraid of Anthony but not of the woman she thought was trying to seduce her boyfriend. She stiffened her neck and said, "I'm pregnant."

"Your pregnancy has nothing to do with me. Do I have to pamper you because of it? But you splashed water on me just now. We need to talk about this," Rebecca turned to Anthony, "Mr. Lewis, if we take her to court, what charges would she face?"

Anthony was wiping the wet spots on his shirt with a tissue. Without looking up, he said, "Consultation fee, ten thousand dollars."

Well, that was awkward. She had asked so casually, only to get a harsh reality check. Rebecca gritted her teeth and snapped, "Why don't you just rob me? Other lawyers charge a few hundred to a thousand bucks. You want ten thousand?"

Charging ten grand for a simple question made it seem like it was a billion-dollar case.

Anthony replied, "The cheapest is two hundred dollars. I can refer you, but if you decide to sue, the consultation fee will be included in the litigation costs."

Rebecca rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, "This is for your justice, serves you right for getting splashed."

Anthony said, "Intentionally splashing water is an infringement of a citizen's personal rights. According to the law, a fine must be imposed."

"With such a small fine, you still have the nerve to charge me ten thousand dollars?"

Anthony smirked, "Did I charge you?"

The woman was stunned, not expecting that splashing a cup of water could be illegal. "Who are you fooling? I didn't do it on purpose. Can the police really arrest me?"

With that, she grabbed the man who had returned from studying abroad and tried to leave.

Seeing the situation, the man had no courage to stay and immediately tried to leave with her.

Rebecca said, "Then let's call the police. And you have a wife and child but pretend to be single to go on dates. Let the police explain the law to you."

The man, trying to distance himself, said, "We're not married yet."

The woman took out five hundred dollars from her wallet and threw it at Rebecca, saying, "Isn't it all about money? Here you go."

She wanted to curse a few more times but was intimidated by Anthony and had to shut her mouth, silently cursing her bad luck.

A waiter came over and asked them to leave, "Miss, you have seriously disturbed our guests. Please leave."

Anthony looked down at them with a particularly cold and indifferent gaze, like a deity in a temple who could decide life and death with a single word, "You still have to compensate for the economic loss caused by the water. This suit costs sixty-eight thousand dollars. How do you plan to pay?"

The couple fell silent for a while.

They stared at Anthony's suit, shocked.

Winona whispered in Rebecca's ear, "Mr. Lewis is really handsome."

He was like a prince charming in the eyes of countless girls.

Rebecca had no such thoughts about Anthony. Whenever she thought of him, she only remembered her painful experiences, "Don't be fooled by his looks. He can be so serious that he'll argue with you until the end of time over a single word."

Anthony's light gaze swept over, and Rebecca immediately shut up. She linked arms with Winona and walked out, saying, "Aren't you afraid Zachary will get jealous if you openly praise another man?"

She hadn't forgotten her promise to Anthony. If she appeared in front of him again, she'd commit suicide.

But someone as busy as Anthony probably wouldn't remember such an obviously unrealistic joke.

She had just taken two steps when she heard Anthony's indifferent voice, "Miss Davis, when are you going to put on your suicide act for me?"
