Chapter 273 He Wants to Sleep with Her

Winona used an iodine-soaked cotton ball to disinfect the wound. "Hmm, I got it. Anyway, thank you."

Zachary said, "To wipe out all traces at the scene in such a short time and push out a scapegoat, there are no more than ten organizations in City A capable of such a feat. I've already sent people to keep an eye on them, but it might take some time."

City A wasn't his turf. It weren't that easy to uncover the secrets of others who had been operating there for years.

Judging by this incident, the other party was not only cautious but also had many backup plans. If they weren't careful and got discovered, it would be even harder to catch them next time.

He realized it would be difficult to investigate this matter without being noticed.

Even Winona's photos seemed related to the other party. However, he wasn't sure of their exact purpose. Maybe they were trying to sow discord between them, or perhaps something else.

Zachary's wound was at the joint, making it difficult to bandage. After applying the medicine, Winona put everything back into the bag, tied it up, and placed it in the storage box.

After finishing all this, she looked up and gave Zachary a sincere smile. "Thank you."

Her features were already striking, and her skin appeared even fairer in the night. The light reflected in her eyes like stars in the sky, sparkling brightly.

Zachary felt his heart flutter under her gaze, his Adam's apple unconsciously bobbing.

The car was narrow, and the windows were closed. The air was filled with the scent of medicine mixed with their fragrances, heated by their body warmth, making the atmosphere between them increasingly charged.

Before losing control, Zachary turned his head away just in time.

He couldn't see Winona's face, but the burning desire inside him didn't diminish; instead, it grew even stronger because he couldn't see her.

Beside him, Winona's gentle voice brushed lightly over his taut nerves like a feather. "Thank you for everything in City A and for today."

Zachary closed his eyes, his voice hoarse and barely audible. "Okay."

The conversation seemed to have ended there, but Zachary was still a bit unwilling. "Winona, since our divorce, do you remember how many times you've thanked me?"

Winona remained silent.

The man turned his head, his deep, dark gaze falling on her, incredibly sexy. "Gratitude should be sincere. I'm no longer your husband, so how do you plan to thank me?"

Winona was stunned for a few seconds. "Treat you to a meal?"

The last time she thanked him, Zachary seemed quite interested in having a meal, but due to the limitations, she could only offer light snacks. "Do you want to eat out or at home?"

As for giving gifts, she couldn't think of anything that would interest Zachary.

"Home? Whose home?"

If it were at Regal Oaks, he would reluctantly accept her thanks.

Winona replied, "Rebecca's place."

Zachary lowered his head, a deep laugh escaping his throat. "A sincere gift should satisfy the recipient. You should understand what I mean."

Of course, Winona understood. How could she not?

Zachary practically had "I want to sleep with you" written all over his face. Even though Winona hadn't done anything, his gaze on her felt like he had undressed her countless times.

Winona glared at him fiercely, her cheeks flushing red, unsure if it was from anger or embarrassment. "I refuse."

Before she could finish her sentence, Zachary reached out, grabbed the back of her neck, pulled her close, and kissed her lips.

A light kiss, like a feather brushing across.

Winona hadn't even reacted before he pulled away, but his hand on her neck remained. "I've helped you so many times. In return, could you try to like me?"

Winona's first reaction was shock. She hadn't expected Zachary to say such a thing. Once she processed it, she found it unbelievable.

Although after the divorce, Zachary appeared around her more frequently and had helped her a lot, although he seemed to be pursuing her, Winona didn't dare entertain such thoughts.

She had once allowed herself to sink deeply into the illusion of his seemingly affectionate demeanor, only to find herself grappling to extricate herself from the daily torment that ensued. To others, it might have seemed like just three years, but only by being in it could one truly understand how those three years, over a thousand days, turned from initial hope to pain and then to despair.

After the divorce, she stopped reminiscing about those three years of marriage. She had worked so hard to forcibly separate herself from the past, and now there was no way she would repeat the same mistake.

"Zachary," Winona spoke, her pale face serious, her eyes fixed on him.

Zachary let go, speaking indifferently. "Just kidding. Don't thank me for every little thing. I helped you because of thethree years of marriage. Although we're divorced, you're still my ex-wife. I can't let some thugs bully you and tarnish my reputation."

She wanted to reject him, but he didn't care at all. This feeling was utterly terrible.

Winona didn't want to talk anymore. She turned and reached for the car door handle.

Zachary locked the door, and the car rolled out of the parking space. "I'll drive you."

"I have my car." It was parked right next to his; she didn't believe he hadn't seen it.

Zachary seemed not to hear and the car rolled a bit further before stopping. He then unlocked the door. Winona got out, and as she closed the door, she noticed Zachary's hand gripping the steering wheel. The wound, which had stopped bleeding, was now seeping blood again.

Her hand on the door tightened slightly, but she still forced herself to look away.

Since she didn't want to endure the same pain again, she couldn't afford to be soft-hearted.

Winona irritably got into her car and drove off without looking back once.

Until she left the police station and drove in the opposite direction of Regal Oaks did she glance at the rearview mirror, and immediately she saw Zachary's Maybach. Their eyes met through the windshields.

Winona felt even more annoyed and instinctively wanted to brake. She hesitated for a few seconds before stepping on the gas again.

Well, if he wanted to follow, let him follow.

Zachary followed her all the way to her apartment building, even calling a security guard to escort her upstairs. Only after confirming she was safely home did he drive away.
