Chapter 81 Driven Crazy by Zachary
Is he driving her crazy? She's starting to sleepwalk...
After freshening up, she went to the doctor's office, confirmed that Zachary had no issues, and proceeded to complete the discharge procedures. "Would you like to go back on your own, or should I call Brian to pick you up?"
Leaning against the headboard, Zachary's lips curled into a smile. "The doctor said I can be discharged?"
Winona thought to herself, spending one night in the hospital for that small injury on your forehead, is already showing a great deal of respect for it.
However, Winona thought it would be best if she held back her sarcasm and instead proceeded to relay the doctor's instructions word for word: "Do not let the wound come into contact with water before it heals. Quit drinking and avoid spicy food." Hoping that this would placate him so that he could leave her alone now.
Given the fact that it is winter now, not washing your hair for four or five days won't make it too smelly. However, it will present quite a challenge for the hygiene-obsessed Zachary.
"But I still feel a bit dizzy in the head." He responded nonchalantly.
"What do you want then?" Winona asked him wearily, acutely suspicious that Zachary had ulterior motives.
"You can move back to Regal Oaks."
"That's impossible." Without hesitation she rejected his proposition not entertaining the suggestion in the slightest.
Zachary protested, "There are no servants at home. Even if all I want is a simple glass of water, there's absolutely no one to pour it for me. Surely you don't expect me to return to Crest Manor with my injury and have Sarah take care of me, do you?"
Winona replied mercilessly, "I won't pour it for you either, let alone take care of you in any other way. As for returning to Crest Manor..." Her insincere smile mocking Zachary. "Please go ahead, after all she is your mother. If you're not worried about inconveniencing her, then why should I take any responsibility for that?"
Since her plans to go out for a late-night snack last night where ruined; Winona was now famished and didn't have the energy to continue wasting her time here with him
"If you want to live here permanently, I can hire a nurse for you. I truly am a responsible person."
The final sentence was purely a self-complimenting soliloquy.
This is a private hospital, with more beds than patients. As long as you have money, you can lie here until you die and no one would consider kicking you out.
Zachary's anger was more than evident on his face. "Winona, where are you going? I'm hungry!"
"Did I kidnap your chef or blow up the hospital canteen? If you're hungry, go downstairs and eat. I will not wait on you, I'm not your servant."
Whether it was ordering takeout or doing the cooking herself, Winona had always served the food to him. But now, they were getting a divorce. Did he honestly still expect her to serve him as she used to?
Men should indeed not be spoiled!
After leaving the hospital, Winona took a taxi straight home.
She stopped at the supermarket first and bought a pack of instant noodles. Her intention was to have a quick nap and then make do with the noodles since she did not sleep well last night.
However, as soon as she got off the elevator and took the first few steps, she saw Zachary standing at her doorstep.
Wasn't he supposed to go home or go to work at the Bailey Group?
"Why are you here?"
"You're here, so why shouldn't I be here? I'm injured now and need someone to take care of me. You're my wife, therefore, it's your responsibility."
"I am your wife."
"Is this about hiring a nanny?"
Winona laughed bitterly at his words. "You only remember your wife in your time of need. Did you ever think about your wife while you were showering other women with money?"
She opened the door, turned around, and glared at him menacingly. "Are you leaving or not? If not, you leave me no choice but to take matters into my own hands."
Zachary's face was grim. In fact, his face had been gloomy since last night. "What other women?" He asked coldly.
Winona rolled her eyes, "Your beloved Miss Fiona."
The man frowned, "I never gave her any money."
"Oh."
Whether that was true or not was of no concern to Winona anymore. However, considering Miss Clark's pretentiousness, if she was willing to accept Zachary's money, she wouldn't have ignored the benefits she gained through him. She wouldn't have insisted on venturing out alone, trying to find a match worthy of his status, and gaining Lydia's approval to stand by his side openly and honestly.
But none of this mattered to Winona anymore. Right now, all she wanted was to finish eating and get some rest.
Zachary lifted his hand to stop the door from closing and walked straight in.
His gaze swept across the apartment...
Although Matthew didn't live here, the décor and style was clearly chosen by him. Right down to the items on the table that even seemed to reflect his presence.
The item that Winona had used to hit his head last night was still on the floor. It was a cartoon character that Matthew had once loved. The bloodstains had turned dark red when they dried, but they were still clearly visible.
Zachary glanced coldly at it and kicked it towards the trash can, "When do you plan on moving out of Matthew's house?"
Winona was busy preparing her noodles after changing her shoes and didn't notice him kicking it away. "I've paid the rent. Why should I move?"
Having had her say in this regard, she couldn't be bothered with Zachary anymore.
If he insisted on coming in, she knew that she couldn't physically stop him, so she opted to rather preserve her energy.
"Do you really think Matthew cares about your rent?"
Winona ignored him and sat on the sofa, devouring her instant noodles while staring into space.
Zachary's tone was stern, "I am a patient. Are you planning to serve me a bowl of instant noodles?"
"No," hearing her response, the man's face improved slightly, but then he heard Winona continue, "This is my food. If you are hungry, go make yourself something to eat then."
Thinking back to their time at Regal Oaks, even if she knew he wouldn't eat, Winona would always prepare at least four dishes and a soup for him. But now, she didn't even bother to make an extra bowl of instant noodles.
It was like two completely different people. Like day and night!
Zachary gritted his teeth and mocked, "Is that how you treat Matthew too?"
"He's not as shameless as you. He doesn't beg for food."
Winona continued eating her noodles. Zachary was never fond of this type of food, but after smelling it, he was now beginning to feel quite hungry. However, it was blatantly obvious the woman only cared about sorting herself out and had no intention of even acknowledging him.
After finishing her meal, Winona went to her room to rest.
To Zachary, whatever love meant!
She managed to sleep right through to the afternoon until she was woken by a phone call from Matthew. "Winona, do you remember me mentioning that I wanted your help in looking into a collection matter for my grandfather. Do you have time tonight?"
"Yes."
After confirming the meeting place, Winona got up and began to freshen up.
Zachary was no longer in the living room, but she didn't think much of it. It would have been strange if he had been sitting here for hours.
She grabbed her toolbox and headed out, only to find her hand empty when she reached for her keys...
Damn it, the jerk took the keys!
