Chapter 570 We Come

Rebecca's eyes sparkled with excitement. She thought it was a fantastic idea. After all, she had the means. But then she hesitated. Raising a child wasn't like raising a dog. A child needed a loving family, both a father and a mother.

Before Rebecca could shake her head, Anthony's cold voice came from behind her. "Absolutely not."

Rebecca was so startled she nearly jumped out of her chair. She took a deep breath, but the chili from the barbecue caught in her throat, making her cough uncontrollably. When she finally stopped coughing, she managed to speak in broken sentences. "Are you a ghost? Sneaking up on people and then suddenly talking?"

She was scared out of her wits.

Anthony raised an eyebrow and retorted, "How about I wear combat boots and stomp around you three times until you notice me before I speak?"

Rebecca's cheeks were flushed from coughing. She downed two cans of beer, but it didn't soothe the burning in her throat. Her eyes were watery, making her already bright eyes even brighter. She glared at him angrily. "I'm the one having the baby. What does it matter to you if there's a father or not? Who are you to decide for me? I want to go for artificial insemination and find a top-notch gene donor to have a high-IQ elite child."

Anthony said no, so Rebecca was determined to do the opposite.

After all, once she left Regal Oaks, who could keep tabs on whether she had a baby or not?

Anthony frowned, looking serious. "A child isn't an object. You can't just throw money at them. They need education. Both a mother and a father are essential for a child's growth. Otherwise, they might end up emotionally unhealthy, extremely cold, or extremely needy. It could even lead to personality flaws that last a lifetime.

And even though you're an art student, you should read more. Elite children aren't just born from top-notch genes. It's usually a combination of factors."

Rebecca's face turned even redder.

Damn it.

What kind of weirdo was this guy, giving her a lecture on how to have an elite child in public? She was afraid he'd start a biology lesson right there. Rebecca quickly interrupted him. "Who said I agreed to artificial insemination? Just because you're a lawyer and can out-argue everyone doesn't mean you can accuse me."

Compared to Rebecca's agitation, Anthony was calm and composed, like a prince dining elegantly in a castle. "You didn't say it, but your eyes lit up when you heard the suggestion."

Rebecca was speechless.

What was this? Was he a person? He was like an owl that could turn its head in all directions. She had her head down, and he still saw her eyes light up. She wasn't a light bulb.

Anthony saw Rebecca's silence. "So you admit it?"

Rebecca's face was red, and she was breathing heavily, clearly very angry. But since she couldn't out-argue Anthony, she could only clutch her chest, muttering, "My brain is going to explode from anger."

Winona couldn't help but laugh, but seeing Rebecca genuinely angry, she held back. She looked at Anthony. "Mr. Lewis, if you still want to pursue Rebecca, change the topic."

Rebecca snapped, "No way, not in this lifetime. Who wants to date an owl? Have a little owl and see if my eyes light up?"

Anthony raised his glass. "How about a drink?"

"If I don't drink you under the table tonight, I won't be called Davis," Rebecca declared with a determined glint in her eye. She knew she couldn't out-argue Anthony, but with her high alcohol tolerance, she was confident she could out-drink him. She planned to get Anthony drunk, take some embarrassing photos, and display them on a huge LED screen at their law firm, making him lose face.

Rebecca rolled up her sleeves. "Come on, whoever loses is a puppy."

Winona called out, "Rebecca."

Zachary came up behind her and put his arm around her. "Anthony knows his limits. It won't get out of hand. Come have some barbecue."

Zachary was leading Winona back to where they had been sitting with Samuel and the others when he saw Matthew holding a freshly grilled chicken leg, clearly meant for Winona. It wasn't for him.

Matthew was still not giving up, even though Zachary and Winona's relationship was solid.

Zachary's face darkened, and he pulled Winona in another direction, towards the barbecue grill.

Samuel watched Matthew's outstretched hand retract and took a slow sip of his drink. "You still haven't given up? They're probably getting back together. You don't plan to wait forever, do you? Knowing you're the third wheel and not giving up is pretty unethical."

"No, I just want to annoy him. Don't you think it's fun?"

One poke and he gets mad.

In all the years Samuel had known Zachary, he'd never seen him like this.

Samuel looked at Matthew with a mix of pity and disbelief. "What kind of weird hobby is this? You like messing with him for fun?"

"And the chicken leg is actually for him. Didn't he break his leg? Perfect, eat what you need to heal."

Samuel pondered for a moment. "You haven't turned into a weirdo from unrequited love, have you?"

As he spoke, he grabbed a plate of some animal's kidneys and a bunch of bull penises from the food rack and placed them on the table next to Matthew. "Eat what you need to heal. You should grill these for him."

Of course, it was all in good fun. He didn't mean to offend Zachary.

Matthew looked at the items on the table. "This is more suitable for you. Eat more and please your partner. Maybe next time we see Julia, we can call her Mrs. Anderson."

Samuel sneered. "No wonder you can't get anyone."

The party went on until past eleven. Rebecca, tipsy but not quite drunk, was being supported by Anthony as she wobbled over to say goodbye to Winona.

Winona, seeing Rebecca's dazed state, was worried. "Why don't you stay here tonight? There's a guest room, and the bed is made."

Rebecca's feet stayed put, but her body leaned towards Winona. She giggled. "Okay."

Before she could finish, Anthony pulled her back. "I'll take her home."

He glanced at Zachary. "We won't bother you. Don't worry, I won't do anything without her consent."

Winona gave an awkward smile.

She didn't doubt Anthony's integrity. It wasn't about his character. As a lawyer, he knew what he could and couldn't do. He wouldn't risk his career by doing something inappropriate.

Winona didn't trust Rebecca. She was afraid Rebecca might lose control while drunk.

Rebecca waved her hand. "I'm not drunk, Winona. I paid. When I get back, let's talk?"

She winked at Winona, a mysterious look on her face.

Zachary tightened his grip on Winona's shoulder, gritting his teeth. "Talk about what?"
