Chapter 429 Blessed with Both a Son and a Daughter
Ramsey Group.
Nicholas shut his eyes, rubbing his temple with one hand, clearly in discomfort.
The door creaked open, and someone walked in, his footsteps barely audible on the carpet.
Nicholas paused, then slowly opened his eyes and looked towards the door.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
His face was calm, but his eyes were full of warmth.
"I heard Leon took a tumble down the stairs and broke his leg. I was worried no one would take care of you," Timothy Perez said with concern. "Is your head hurting again?"
Timothy was a handsome guy, slender, with skin so fair it looked like he never saw the sun. His eyes had the energy of someone in their twenties.
"No, I've just been staring at documents all morning. I'm a bit tired," Nicholas said, lowering his hand and stretching his neck.
Timothy grabbed a medicine box from the drawer, poured out two pills, and handed them to Nicholas. "Nicholas, the doctor said you haven't had a check-up in days. Are you feeling any better recently?"
"My head hasn't hurt much, but there's a ton of work at the company, and I really can't find the time," Nicholas said, glancing at the pills in Timothy's hand, his lashes hiding the darkness in his eyes. "I just took some medicine earlier, put these back for now."
"If you had taken better care of yourself earlier, I wouldn't have rushed back as soon as I heard Leon was hospitalized," Timothy said, pouring all the pills from the bottle into his palm and counting them. "Nicholas, you're lying to me. This bottle has forty pills, and you take six a day. If you took them at noon, there should be six left, but there are eight."
He bent down, speaking softly, "Nicholas, you can't skip your medicine just because it's bitter. Dr. Wilson said you must take your medicine properly, or you won't get better. Dad and I will be very worried."
Nicholas stayed silent, showing no signs of lying. "I was busy this morning and took them late. Leave them here; I'll take them after lunch."
Timothy put the medicine back in the drawer. "The Ramsey Group is just a stepping stone for us to deal with the Bailey Family. There's no need to put in so much effort. We don't need to turn it into a multinational corporation after using."
"The Bailey Group is a large ship, even without Zachary, it's not something anyone can easily shake. If Ramsey Group isn't strong enough, who would risk cooperating with us?" He glanced at the pile of documents on the desk, looking weary. "No one is a fool these days. If the company isn't strong, no matter how capable the person in charge is, others won't consider cooperating."
Timothy said, "I don't understand business. You're better at this. I'll follow your lead."
Then he looked at Nicholas, probing, "I heard you met Zachary's ex-wife at Crystal's birthday party a few days ago? Didn't she suspect anything when she saw your face?"
"She did, but Zachary and I have different personalities. She'll figure it out after a few more interactions."
Timothy wanted to ask more but held back when he saw Nicholas had no intention of continuing the topic. They had lunch in the office. After eating, Timothy made sure Nicholas took his medicine and hung around for a bit before heading out.
Nicholas asked a few questions about what Timothy had been up to lately.
As soon as Timothy left, Nicholas went to the bathroom, spat the half-dissolved pill he had hidden under his tongue into the toilet, and flushed it away. He then rinsed his mouth, but the bitter taste of the medicine still lingered, making him feel queasy.
Winona didn't get the answer she wanted from Caleb, but she wasn't too bummed out. In the afternoon, Evander had set up a golf game with Andrew Rodriguez from Glory Corporation, and Winona had to tag along.
Lately, she'd been hitting up a lot of events to grow her network. She wasn't a pro at socializing yet, but she wasn't as shy as she used to be.
For someone in a technical field, this kind of mingling was pretty tough.
When she left the teahouse, Dylan's car was already waiting at the door.
Winona opened the car door and was about to get in when she froze. "Why are you here?"
Inside the car was Matthew, dressed in white sportswear, looking all youthful and energetic.
Before Matthew could say anything, Dylan explained, "Mr. Bailey had an urgent matter to attend to and couldn't make it. Mr. Watson happened to be at the Bailey Group discussing business with Mr. Bailey. Since he has had a few interactions with Mr. Rodriguez before, Mr. Bailey asked him to accompany you."
Since it was Evander's arrangement, Winona couldn't refuse. "Thank you, Matthew."
Matthew looked at her, his eyes complicated. "Evander watched me grow up. This is a small matter. You don't need to be so formal. I told you that night at Spring Delight, I will do my best to protect you."
He didn't hide his intentions, looking at Winona with deep affection. "You don't need to feel burdened. I just want to help you, not to bind you or expect anything in return."
Dylan stayed quiet.
If Zachary had even a fraction of Matthew's skills with women, he would probably have a bunch of kids by now.
He glanced at the rearview mirror, seeing Winona focusing on Matthew, not saying anything or refusing.
No one could blame Winona for not being strong-willed. If Dylan were a woman, he would choose Matthew too. Matthew was gentlemanly, elegant, had a good temper, and knew how to treat women well. He was also very good at sweet-talking.
He suddenly jerked the steering wheel, causing the car to swerve and successfully breaking the affectionate atmosphere in the back seat.
At the golf course.
When they arrived, Andrew had just gotten there too. He glanced at Matthew beside Winona and raised an eyebrow suggestively. "Mr. Watson, are you planning to take a position at Bailey Group?"
Matthew shook hands with him and said with a polite smile, "Evander wasn't feeling well today and couldn't come. Zachary and I grew up together as brothers. Now that he's missing, the least I can do is help look after Bailey Group until he returns."
Andrew smiled but didn't say whether he believed it or not. "Coincidentally, I invited someone else today. You might get along well."
