Chapter 664 Maeve's Ambition

Maeve felt like she was going to die. The suffocation and water choking her made her struggle weaker and weaker. Through the clear splashes, she saw Winona standing on the shore.

Winona was wearing an exquisite evening gown and expensive jewelry that Maeve could never afford in her lifetime, looking coldly at her as she struggled in the water.

A sense of unprecedented disgrace and humiliation surged from the depths of her heart.

If she could survive this...

She would definitely...

Definitely what? Her thoughts were already starting to become muddled, her limbs weak and heavy.

Maeve was hit by something, not painful, but rather soft. She struggled to open her eyes and saw a pink life buoy in front of her.

She didn't have time to think about who threw it; her survival instinct made her cling to the buoy desperately, preventing herself from sinking.

With the threat of death gone, Maeve finally regained her senses. Her feet touched solid ground, and she turned to look at the spot where Winona had been standing. There was no one there anymore.

In the hall, Zachary glanced at his watch. Winona had been gone for two minutes.

When Winona left earlier, he had intended to follow her, but before he could take a step, someone approached him with a drink, trying to make small talk.

By the time he managed to shake them off, Winona had already disappeared from his sight.

Judging by the direction she left, Zachary assumed she had gone to the restroom and didn't think much of it. But as he scanned the hall, he realized Maeve was also missing.

Frowning, he dialed Winona's number. After two rings, he saw Rebecca, who was chatting animatedly with someone, open her bag and take out the phone he recognized.

Hanging up, Zachary strode over. "Winona went to the restroom, and it's been two minutes. Can you check on her?"

Rebecca stared at him like he was a creep. "Women take longer in the restroom, isn't that normal? Zachary, are you some kind of pervert?"

With so many people around, Zachary couldn't explain in detail. "You brought her here, so you should take care of her. She drank quite a bit earlier, and I'm worried. Go check on her."

He made up a random excuse. If it weren't inconvenient for him to go into the women's restroom, he wouldn't be wasting time talking to Rebecca.

Rebecca rolled her eyes. "What do you mean I brought her here? Maeve texted Winona to lure her here. Maeve is finally showing her true colors, ready for a direct confrontation."

She looked down on Maeve, her words dripping with disdain, practically wishing she could stomp on her.

Zachary caught the sensitive point in her words, his heart tightening. He grabbed Rebecca's arm and headed towards the restroom. "Maeve texted her to come?"

"What else? We don't even know the Fields family well. We had to pull a lot of strings to get the invitation. Slow down!"

Zachary's long legs and quick strides made it hard for Rebecca to keep up, especially since she was wearing 7-inch heels for the occasion, stumbling behind him.

At the restroom door, Rebecca finally stopped to catch her breath. She rubbed her sore heel, glared at Zachary, and then walked in with an air of arrogance. "Winona, are you in here?"

At first, she was casual, not thinking much of it, assuming Zachary was overreacting. This was someone's engagement party; who would be foolish enough to cause trouble?

But she quickly became serious when she realized Winona wasn't in the restroom. Remembering Zachary's anxious demeanor, she suddenly felt something was wrong.

Damn it.

Could Maeve be up to something? She rushed out immediately.

Winona had no idea that Zachary and Rebecca were frantically searching for her just minutes after she left. Seeing Maeve struggling and about to sink, she threw a life buoy down. She wanted to teach her a lesson, but never intended to kill her.

Seeing Maeve wouldn't die, Winona turned and walked away. If what she said was true, the person was now at the Fields family estate, making it dangerous here. She needed to get Rebecca out first.

Just a few steps away, she heard the sound of a car engine behind her, and it quickly approached. This was the inner estate; only the Fields family could drive in here. But the villa was just ahead; was the car going to crash into the house?

Though it seemed like she thought a lot, it all happened in a blink. The car stopped beside her, the door opened, and a hand reached out, grabbing her arm swiftly and firmly.

Before she was pulled into the car, she heard Zachary's terrified shout, "Winona!"

She didn't have time to discern the direction of the voice before she was thrown into the car, her head hitting the front seat, making her dizzy.

"Reverse, reverse, quickly reverse."

"Damn it, drive steady, almost threw me out."

The car was chaotic, with people shouting and struggling to get her legs inside. The door was slammed shut, the muscles in the arm bulging from the effort.

"Winona."

Hearing Zachary's voice, Winona held her aching forehead and looked towards the door.

Zachary was already standing on the van's step, reaching in to grab Winona. The closing door slammed on his hand, making a dull thud.

Winona saw Zachary's face turn pale instantly, but he didn't withdraw his hand reaching for her.

The person closing the door used all their strength, and amidst the noise, there seemed to be a faint sound of bones cracking. Winona desperately hoped it was her imagination.

Taking advantage of their distraction, Winona freed one hand and lunged towards the door.

"Damn it, you bitch."

The person hadn't taken her seriously, but now, humiliated, they grabbed her hair and yanked her back, slamming her head against the seat repeatedly.

Zachary was enraged by the sight, his eyes bloodshot. "Let her go! I can give you money, name your price."
