Chapter 334 Locking Them Up Tight
"Bang!"
A porcelain bowl shattered in Austin's room.
Winona turned away from Zachary and rushed over.
The doctor had warned that if Austin's fever didn't drop, he'd need to go to the hospital.
Zachary tried to stop her, but she was too quick. By the time he reached out, she was already gone.
He watched her, tempted to drag her back and kick Austin out, but he held back. If Austin died, Winona would keep him in mind forever.
Zachary laughed coldly and followed her.
The door was open. Austin was slumped against the bed, looking lazy with half-closed eyes.
Food was all over the floor, the bowl shattered. The tall bodyguard by the bed glared at Austin, who was panting.
Austin looked past the bodyguard at Zachary. "Send someone gentler to feed me. He almost poked my throat."
Austin opened his mouth, mumbling, "Don't believe me? Look."
Zachary laughed coldly. "Too bad he didn't kill you."
"Is this how you treat guests? No hospitality."
"When you're a guest, know your place. Feel wronged? Leave."
Austin said, "Mr. Bailey, bad day? You sound bitter."
Zachary laughed coldly, his anger almost overflowing.
His relationship with Winona had finally progressed, he had a legitimate status, and he had prepared everything. He even came back early today.
He was happy, only to find Winona feeding Austin.
Before, because of his own issues and thinking Winona still liked Matthew, he could bear it.
Now that their relationship was confirmed, how could Zachary tolerate it?
Winona covered her face. These two men, almost sixty years old combined, were arguing like kids.
Austin's dark eyes stared at Winona mischievously. "Winona, I'm not feeling well."
Hearing that, Winona instinctively wanted to go over, but Zachary grabbed her waist and pulled her back, his face cold. "Don't go."
Winona was shocked.
Zachary's hand around her waist seemed casual but was full of possessiveness.
Austin didn't defend himself.
But the fact was, Austin was severely injured, with an infection and a fever, and had undergone surgery without anesthesia. Even a strong person would be weak after that.
Seeing his pale face and lips, Winona wasn't reassured and tried to pry Zachary's hand away. "Let me check on him."
Seeing her so concerned about Austin, a violent rage surged in Zachary. "Do you want to see if he's unwell, or do you just want to see him?"
The statements seemed similar, but they were subtly different. The former showed concern for his physical well-being, fearing he would die, while the latter showed concern for him as a person.
Winona replied, "I've known Austin for almost ten years."
The implication was clear: if there were any romantic feelings, they would have surfaced long ago. Besides, she had openly brought him back to Regal Oaks.
Taking care of him personally was also because Austin's whereabouts needed to stay secret.
Zachary pursed his lips and signaled the bodyguard. "Check if he's dying."
Austin turned his head. "No way. He almost killed me feeding me. If he slaps me, my brain will scatter."
Zachary sneered, "Then I'll check."
Trying to get close to Winona? Not happening.
Zachary had already decided that no matter if Austin had a fever or not, he'd insist he didn't, then coax Winona away and call the doctor later.
Austin didn't say anything, seemingly agreeing. It seemed his earlier refusal was just concern about the bodyguard's heavy hand.
The more Austin acted righteous, the more Zachary felt something was off. He looked at him deeply, ready to expose his scheme in front of Winona at any moment.
He raised his hand and casually touched Austin's forehead. "No fever..."
Before he could finish, Zachary saw Austin's hand move. He instinctively withdrew his hand and took a step back, distancing himself from Austin.
"Click."
A crisp metallic sound rang out, and Zachary felt a cold sensation on his wrist.
He looked down and saw a metal handcuff on his wrist, connected by a chain to another cuff on Austin's wrist.
A heavy shadow clouded Zachary's face, and he gritted his teeth. "What are you doing?"
Austin tilted his head, defiantly. "Even though I'm pretty useless right now, I won't let myself be a burden, especially to the woman I like."
Winona was speechless.
If this confession were in a more thrilling situation, she would be very moved. But now, she just wanted to laugh.
And she couldn't hold it in, laughing out loud, even bending over with laughter.
Zachary was furious, veins bulging on his neck and hands, and he couldn't hold back his anger. "Unlock it!"
Austin, exhausted, seemed to have used all his strength in that move. He could barely sit up. "Unlock it so you can threaten Winona? If you want to pursue a woman, do it properly. Using such underhanded tactics, are you a beast? Have some decency."
Zachary gritted his teeth. "Where's the key?"
"I can barely move now, why would I keep a key? For you to snatch?" Austin moved aside and casually said, "If it weren't for the lack of stable objects here, do you think I'd want to be handcuffed to you?"
Austin snorted. "You think you're the only one feeling wronged? I'm wronged too. If I had known you'd come between us, I would have pursued Winona in high school."
Winona finally stopped laughing, but hearing Austin's confession, she felt awkward. "You guys talk, I'm a bit tired, I'll go to sleep."
Zachary watched as Winona, without any hesitation, turned and left. He squinted. "Winona, come back here."
