Chapter 416 You're Pregnant
"I know."
Winona knew that hanging around the boat every day wasn't going to change anything. She was just a regular person, no special skills, and she couldn't even dive. But she wanted to be close, desperate to catch any shred of news the instant it came in.
Rebecca rushed over.
Winona was so weak now that Rebecca worried she wouldn't make it if she went, but she didn't know how to convince her to stay.
Before, she would've had no problem persuading her, but the setup at Regal Oaks clearly screamed proposal. If she were in Winona's shoes, seeing a surprise from her boyfriend in this situation, she'd probably want to teleport to the accident site and stay there too.
Rebecca thought it would be inappropriate to ask her to stay and wait for news. So she turned her gaze to Anthony, hoping he would persuade her.
Anthony, clueless about her dark thoughts, just frowned at Winona and said, "Lydia's in bad shape. She already had heart issues, and she fainted after hearing the news. She's still in critical condition in the hospital."
The CEO of Bailey Group going missing was too big to keep under wraps.
When Winona got to the hospital where Lydia was, she had just come out of the emergency room and had just woken up. Evander said, worried, "You need to eat something first. The doctor said your health is bad, and you need to take care of yourself. If Zachary comes back and finds you in bad shape, he'll feel guilty and blame himself."
Hearing voices from the ward, Winona stood at the door for a bit until she calmed down, then knocked and went in.
"Evander, Lydia."
Evander turned around and forced a smile when he saw Winona. He looked much older after just two days, with gray hair at his temples.
Evander said with a tired smile, "It's good you're here. Try to get Lydia to eat. She can't keep going without food."
He got up to take a phone call. For the past two days, he had been either making or taking calls, and his voice was almost gone.
Winona picked up the bowl on the table, scooped some porridge with a spoon, and brought it to Lydia's mouth. She said, concerned, "Lydia, please eat something. Your health is important."
Lydia just silently wept without saying a word.
Winona, who hadn't had anything to drink for two days, felt a wave of nausea and turned her head to retch.
Lydia, lost in her grief, stared at her with tear-filled eyes that suddenly brightened. "Winona, are you pregnant?"
Even Evander, who was on the phone by the window, turned to look at her.
Winona was quiet for a few seconds, then lowered her eyes and softly said, "Yes."
Lydia, despite her discomfort, struggled to get up from the bed and reached out to touch her belly.
Lydia asked urgently, "How long have you been pregnant?"
"Lydia, please don't get too excited. The doctor said your condition can't handle extreme emotions. Please eat first."
Lydia, both crying and laughing, took the bowl and, while drinking the porridge, mumbled, "Okay, I'll eat. We should not be overly emotional now. You're pregnant, so you need to be extra careful."
"Regal Oaks doesn't have any servants. Do you want to move back to the old house with me, or should I have Sarah take care of you?"
After getting Lydia to finish her meal, Winona made an excuse to leave. Outside the ward, Rebecca stared at her flat stomach in shock and silently mouthed, "You're pregnant?"
Rebecca, worried about Winona but not wanting to intrude, had been waiting outside the door and was floored by the news.
Winona shook her head, and once she was sure no one inside could hear, she said, "No."
"But you can't hide something like this. What if Lydia finds out?"
Wouldn't she be heartbroken again?
"By then, Zachary will be back, and whether there's a baby or not won't matter."
Even if...
Winona pressed her lips together, swallowing the rest of her words.
She'd explain it slowly later, and Lydia should be able to accept it.
After leaving the hospital, Winona grabbed a quick bite downstairs and then rushed to the seaside.
The signal at sea was terrible, and Winona couldn't get through to Rodolfo after calling him over ten times. There was a satellite phone on the boat, but she didn't know the number.
Since she was already on the train, she didn't bother to ask anyone.
Winona then called Frank. Her original plan was to bring the news of Zachary's accident to Evander and then go to the sea to replace Rodolfo, letting him handle the situation.
But she hadn't expected to faint and be delayed for two days. She didn't know if the situation had been resolved.
"Winona," Frank's voice was hoarse, but at least he answered the phone.
"Are you okay?"
"It's all resolved. It was a small matter, just a frame-up. It was easy to find the flaws. How are you? I heard you were sick?"
"I was just too tired, but I'm fine now."
Frank was silent for a few seconds, then said, "There's no news here for now. Stay in Dreamopolis and take care of yourself. I'll call you as soon as there's any progress."
Winona said with a faint smile, "I'm already on the train."
The blue sea waves crashed onto the beach, the sound of water constant. The calm and peaceful sea showed no signs of the recent fire.
Frank said, "I've been thinking about the situation over the past two days and asked Eva. Kyle's plan was to take the painting and leave. He wanted money and was being watched by the police. At such a critical moment, he wouldn't have caused any trouble.
"Even if he wanted to kill us all, there were so many boats and witnesses. If something happened to us, he wouldn't have been able to escape. Moreover, his death indicates that he was not the one who planned it.
"There were so many people on the ship at that time, but only Kyle and his two bodyguards' bodies were found. If only Zachary were missing, it could have been an accident. But now that so many people are missing, there might be more to this story. So there must have been a third party on the boat, targeting Zachary."
Winona thought of the snake sent to the old house.
At the time, she thought it was a warning from the person who had harmed her mother, but then she realized that it was unnecessary to have acid thrown at her and then a snake sent shortly after. If they wanted to kill her, they would have sent a venomous snake.
She hadn't figured it out then, but Frank's reminder made her realize.
The snake might have been targeting the Bailey Family from the start. The other party knew they had arranged to meet Kyle on the boat and might have sneaked on board or reached some shady agreement with Kyle, taking the opportunity to kidnap Zachary.
Winona stayed at sea for two days and then saw the news that Evander had been hospitalized due to exhaustion.
Zachary's sudden disappearance meant that Evander not only had to search for him but also deal with the mess at Bailey Group and the relentless media. It was too much to handle, especially for Evander, who was older, less energetic, and had suffered a huge emotional blow.
