Chapter 328 Call Me Hubby
What a touching friendship.
In today's flashy world, genuine connections were rare. Seeing such a sincere friendship was heartwarming.
The reporter quickly aimed the microphone and camera at Winona. "Miss Sullivan, Miss Turner pushed you out of harm's way, risking her own safety. How do you feel about that?"
Eva's eyes met Winona's, and she raised an eyebrow slightly.
Eva wasn't shy about letting Winona know she did it on purpose.
Eva wanted Winona to lose her cool in public, so everyone could see what an ungrateful person she was. Even if she didn't, it didn't matter. Her plan wasn't about ruining Winona's reputation.
Winona smiled and said, "Touched, really touched. Eva and I haven't known each other long. Outside of work, we don't hang out much. I never expected her to risk her life for me."
'Isn't it just acting? Then let's all act together. Let's see who cracks first,' she thought.
Eva was moved to a private ward. She held Winona's hand and said pitifully, "Winona, I know I messed up. I heard you liked Ian and dreamed of being with him. Ian was planning to get married, so I thought I'd surprise you and help you two get to know each other.
But I clearly told Ian about the garden and gave him your contact info. I don't know how he ended up in that room, causing such a big misunderstanding and making people think he was gay."
Though every word seemed like self-reflection, the topic kept shifting to Winona.
Was Eva trying to pin all the problems on Winona and get Ian out of it?
Winona didn't feel guilty at all.
Because Eva was talking nonsense. She never said those things, only that she was a fan of Ian.
But subconsciously, she glanced at Zachary.
Zachary looked at her with a half-smile. Though there was no sign of anger, the message was clear: 'You better explain what you meant by dreaming of being with him.'
Winona was speechless.
A reporter asked, "So Ian ended up in that room because Miss Sullivan asked him to?"
Involving a public figure meant trending news, especially since Winona was Zachary's ex-wife. "Then what about Mr. Simmons?"
If this were true, it would definitely be explosive news.
For a moment, the reporters were excited, snapping photos faster than before.
Ian had been very popular recently, with a huge fan base. Because of this incident, they all turned into haters. If Winona couldn't explain clearly, those people, realizing they had misunderstood Ian, would tear her apart in their anger.
Just thinking about it made Eva so happy that her broken leg didn't hurt as much.
Winona looked nervous. "Eva, since we're already in the hospital, why don't we have the doctor check your ears, or maybe your eyes?"
Eva was very confused.
Winona looked at Zachary with deep affection. "With a boyfriend like him, why would I settle for less?"
She patted her chest.
No.
A bit too cheesy.
Made her want to puke.
Everyone followed her gaze and looked at Zachary's stunning face.
It kind of made sense.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult Ian, but I was afraid people would misunderstand and think I was lying if I wasn't clear enough." Winona continued to act, her smug look making people want to slap her, except for Zachary, who was enjoying it.
Everyone fell silent.
Eva's smile was shaky, her hand under the blanket tightly gripping the sheet.
"Miss Sullivan, are you and Mr. Bailey planning to remarry?"
"Not at the moment, we're just dating."
"I remember Miss Sullivan and Mr. Bailey divorced because of sexual incompatibility. Has Mr. Bailey's condition been cured, or does Miss Sullivan not mind anymore?"
Ouch, that was a sharp one.
Why didn't the reason for their divorce matter now?
Obviously, they were having an open relationship or never really reconciled. Winona was just lying to save face.
The reporter, wary of Zachary, directed the question at Winona but kept his eyes on Zachary.
Zachary just stood there, watching coldly like an outsider, with no intention of speaking or stepping in.
The reporters' curiosity deepened. "Miss Sullivan, everyone knows you and Mr. Bailey are divorced. You haven't been seen together recently. Are you saying this to cover something up?"
Winona stayed silent.
Dating wasn't the same as marriage; there was no marriage certificate to prove it. With Zachary staying quiet, no one would believe her alone.
She glanced at Zachary.
Zachary stood there, clearly waiting for her to coax him.
Great.
On the second day of their reconciliation, she had already thought of firing him twice.
Maybe sensing something, Zachary's teasing expression faded, and he walked over.
The reporters around the bed were intimidated by his presence and stepped back, making way for him.
As he passed the reporter who asked the sharpest question, he picked up the press card hanging on his chest and looked at it.
The reporter instinctively tried to pull the card back, but as soon as he moved, Zachary looked at him. "Took money?"
The reporter felt a chill and didn't dare move.
Just as he was about to explain, the god-like Zachary let go and walked past him.
Zachary stood in front of Winona, leaned down, and whispered in her ear, "Call me hubby, and I'll kick these people out."
'You're already whispering in my ear, at least lower your voice a bit. We wouldn't be so embarrassed,' Winona wanted to say.
But since Zachary said so, who would dare stay?
In the blink of an eye, those who took money and those who didn't were all gone.
Zachary looked at the empty ward, his face darkening.
Now, not only did he want to kick them out, but he also wanted them to change careers.
Winona pushed him away. 'You're still in your probation period. Where do you get the nerve to make such shameless demands?'
Zachary replied, "When are we going back?"
"My 'savior' is still lying here. How can I just leave?"
Zachary frowned. "Then hire a nurse to watch her 24/7."
Winona looked at Eva, who was on the verge of tears. "No need. Eva saved my life. It's only right for me to stay and take care of her."
On the bed, Eva watched Winona's hypocritical performance in front of her and couldn't help but roll her eyes.
Saying she would take care of her, she definitely had ulterior motives.
But because of Zachary and for some other reason, no matter how angry she was, she could only hold it in, forcing a smile she thought was gentle. "Winona, because of Ian, Uncle Frank punished me to reflect in A City. I can't leave in my current state. Can you help me plead with Uncle Frank? I want to stay in Dreamopolis, okay?"
Winona replied, "I don't have that much influence to persuade Mr. Turner."
Winona's voice paused, and she smiled slightly at Eva.
Eva felt an inexplicable sense of foreboding.
Then the blanket was lifted, and everything under it was exposed.
