Chapter 620 Official Announcement
Zachary had a deep sleep, but it wasn't long. When he woke up, it was still daylight outside. After this nap, his mind felt much clearer, and even the headache that had been tormenting him all day had disappeared.
He reached for his phone on the bedside table and glanced at it. Ever since his sleep quality had deteriorated, he had gotten into the habit of setting his phone to silent mode while sleeping. The screen showed several missed calls.
Zachary called Dylan back first: "Hey, what's up?"
Dylan replied, "Zach, I've got good news and bad news. Which one do you want first?"
Without waiting for a response, Dylan continued, unfazed. He had been working with Zachary for a long time and was quite capable, which is why he hadn't been fired.
"Let's start with the good news. You've gone viral again. People all over the country, from eighteen to eighty, are praying for a man like you..."
"Cut to the chase," Zachary interrupted impatiently, heading to the bathroom to freshen up. He put his phone on speaker and tossed it onto the sink counter.
"Someone took a picture of you at the coffee shop, enjoying a head massage from a woman. The person who took the photo is a social media influencer with millions of followers. Because of your handsome face, the internet is buzzing with people wanting to marry you."
If the photo had been taken by the media, they would have asked for permission before posting it. But the influencer had no such concerns.
The photo was taken because of Zachary's looks, and the caption read: "Please, God, give me a man this handsome. I'll trade ten years of my ex-boyfriend's life for him. Not only will I give head massages, but I'll also keep him warm and cook for him."
The comments were all about envying his girlfriend.
They hadn't known about the photo beforehand. By the time they saw it, it had already become a hot topic online.
Zachary's face was undeniably top-tier, not just because of his looks but also because it represented the Bailey Group.
Zachary didn't care about the online gossip. He would have the PR department clear things up: "What's the bad news?"
Dylan replied, "Mrs. Bailey probably saw it too."
Zachary nearly dropped his mouthwash cup. When he spoke again, his calm demeanor was gone: "Has the photo been taken down?"
"It's already down. As soon as I saw it, I contacted the influencer to take it down, but by then it had spread all over the internet."
Zachary instructed, "Have the PR department issue a statement clarifying my relationship with Ms. Harrington. Just post it, don't try to boost the topic."
Winona was abroad, busy with her research on artifacts, and wouldn't know about the news quickly. She didn't care for entertainment news, but Rebecca would see it.
"Also, have the PR department post some photos of me and Winona, make it official, and buy some ads to boost the topic and suppress the rumors."
"Got it."
After hanging up, Zachary faced a dilemma. He only had a few photos with Winona from yesterday in Rosewood City. Posting a proposal video would be more effective, but he had forgotten the ring at the time, which might lead to criticism.
Zachary was right; Winona was too busy with her research to follow the news. But just because she didn't actively look for it didn't mean others wouldn't send it to her.
She was looking up documents on her phone when a text from an unknown number popped up. She opened it casually; it was a photo message.
In an age where even brief acquaintances added each other on social media, she hadn't received such a message in nearly twenty years, except for casino ads.
The photo was taken at a coffee shop, showing Zachary with his eyes closed, leaning back in his chair, while a woman massaged his head.
Coincidentally, she recognized the woman. It was the same person from the second-hand luxury store who treated Zachary's clothes like treasures, not allowing anyone else to touch them. She even resembled Fiona a bit.
From what she saw that day, the woman wasn't doing well. So, was Zachary feeling pity for someone who looked like his first love? Giving her clothes and letting her massage his head, while his actual girlfriend didn't even know he had such needs.
Previously, Winona was sure Zachary and the woman had nothing shady going on. But now, seeing this photo, she wasn't so sure. With his personality, he wouldn't let a stranger massage his head. This was an intimate gesture.
And the woman looked like Fiona. What if he thought the unattainable was the best and mistook the mosquito blood for a red rose?
Regardless of Zachary's current thoughts, the person who sneakily sent the photo was the real culprit. Winona replied, "Who are you?"
She waited for a long time, even after arriving at her destination, but there was no response. It seemed the sender's only goal was to show her the photo.
Winona mentally reviewed everyone who might dislike her but couldn't figure out who would be so petty as to send her the photo.
She opened Facebook, expecting to see Zachary's scandal, but the trending topic was the Bailey Group's official announcement: "Our future boss lady, beautiful with long legs, @Winona, engaged."
They even posted a photo of her and Zachary, highlighting the ring on her finger, as if afraid people might miss it.
The comments were all about wishing them happiness and praising their looks, clearly hired to post.
The coffee shop photo was nowhere to be found.
Winona didn't call Zachary to ask about the photo. She didn't have time; everyone was already working, and she was the only one slacking off.
She put her phone back in her bag and focused on work, waiting for Zachary to call her and explain.
The official announcement, boosted by ads, spread quickly. Many people saw it.
By noon, Winona had received several congratulatory calls from friends. It was so disruptive that she eventually set her phone to silent.
Seeing the situation was under control, Zachary called Winona during her lunch break.
"Winona, did you see the trending topic on Facebook?" His tone was almost begging for praise, reminding Winona of a proud husky wagging its tail.
"Yeah, I saw it."
Zachary fell silent.
Her reaction wasn't what he expected; it was too indifferent. Shouldn't she be excited?
"Winona, did something upset you?"
