Chapter 306 Secure Your Bra Strap

Rebecca shook her head, snapping back to reality. "Nah, nothing serious, just killing time, lost in my thoughts here."

Glancing at Winona, she teased, "Look at you all done up at this hour. Did you just roll out of some hottie's bed?"

Their friendly banter was a usual occurrence. Expecting a sharp retort, Rebecca was taken aback when Winona simply nodded and dropped a bombshell of a name. "Zachary."

"You two..." Rebecca's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you back together?"

"Nope."

"Fair enough."

That revelation was more astonishing than a reconciliation.

"So, you and him? Was it just a one-night thing? Or you are officially FWB now?" Rebecca pondered Zachary's charisma. "A one-night stand would be a waste. Sure, he's a player, but looks like his are as rare as they get. Not even those pretty-boy celebs can hold a candle. If he's as good in bed as he is to look at, why not give it another whirl."

She waved it off. "Love, it's all about the physical. The more rounds you go, the less thrilling it becomes. Soon it will be like shaking your own hand, with zero excitement. At that point, money talks; you'd book him seven days a week just to keep him off your back. He can play the field all he wants."

While understanding Rebecca's intention of shielding her from hurt, Winona was taken aback by the advice she received. What kind of talk was this?

Realizing Rebecca was about to continue, Winona quickly covered her friend's mouth. "It wasn't a one-time thing; we're not romantically involved. Simply shared a bed, that's all."

"Oh, he's got performance issues then." Rebecca's voice filtered through Winona's hand.

Her words, albeit sharp and prejudiced, inadvertently hit the mark.

Rebecca added, "But Zachary does seem genuine. I'm now softening towards him. Women, even me, are too sentimental; if not, we'd have taken charge ages ago, rendering men obsolete."

As they bantered, a man's cool voice cut through. "Before taking over the world, Miss Davis, maybe ensure your bra strap's secure. Can't have it slipping again."

Winona was rendered speechless. And Rebecca shot up from her seat.

At one glance, she spotted Anthony at the threshold. Dressed sharp in a suit and tie, he exuded charisma. He even acknowledged Winona with a nod.

Rebecca had no time to admire him. She rushed over and pushed Anthony out the door. "What are you doing here?"

"Returning something you left at my place, so you don't accuse me of stealing."

They must have walked away because Winona couldn't hear the rest of the conversation.

She sat in the shop for over half an hour, waiting for Rebecca to return, but instead, she got a call from Caleb. "Winona, if you're not too busy, could you come to the museum?"

Caleb's voice sounded off. It must be urgent.

"Sure thing."

Sending Rebecca a quick message, Winona locked up before hurrying off to the museum.

Upon reaching the museum, the urgency in Caleb's voice made sense. Eva's voice echoed through the halls, clearly in distress. "I only trust Winona. If she's off this project, consider the crown donation off the table. You'll have my funds for the restoration, every cent of it."

Caleb attempted to reason with her. "Miss Turner, we've all put effort into this project, not just Winona. She's not being fired, just stepping back temporarily for the pending investigation regarding the antique hairpin incident."

Eva remained unmoved. "I don't care. My condition remains. It's Winona or nothing."

Eva's stubborn stance brought the crown restoration efforts to a standstill, casting a shadow over Winona in the eyes of her colleagues.

She felt a mix of shock and confusion, becoming the unintended recipient of both Eva's support and her co-workers' animosity.

A snide remark cut through the tension. "Winona, the director is just following everyone's advice and hasn't made a final decision. You don't need Miss Turner to fight your battles. Best to keep things humble instead of letting skills get to your head."

Inside Caleb's office, frustration brimmed. "In that case, Miss Turner, we don't need the crown. Dreamopolis Museum isn't the right fit for such a treasure."

The office door flung open, and Caleb stormed out, passing Winona without a word, dispersing the onlookers in his wake. Then Eva emerged, linking arms with Winona, her expression smug. "I had your back against their threats. Outrageous, trying to intimidate you with dismissal."

By the end, she was sneering disdainfully towards the workroom.

At the moment, Winona felt like her arm, held by Eva, was being wrapped by a cold, venomous snake. She hadn't even known Caleb wanted her to take a break, but Eva did and had caused a scene over it.

The way Eva overpraises people was truly masterful.

She disengaged her arm, maintaining a smile. "Your support is appreciated, but airing such sentiments openly might create misunderstandings. We need to be cautious, particularly in front of senior colleagues. Didn't you say you came to Dreamopolis for an arranged marriage? High society men hate women who play both sides."

Eva's facade cracked momentarily. "I hope you understand. I meant no harm, just acting out of concern."

Winona replied, "Of course not. I know you mean well."

Relieved, Eva replied, "I knew you'd get it. We're even eyeing the same man, after all."
