Chapter 413 The Prepared Surprise
Frank glanced up and saw a cop in uniform with a big German Shepherd by his side. He frowned, telling Winona and rising from his seat, "Take your time eating, I'll be right back."
Before heading out, he gave a nod to the bodyguard next to him, signaling to keep an eye on Winona.
Outside, someone approached him and said, "Mr. Turner, they got a tip-off about contraband in our car and want to search it."
Zachary had pulled this stunt on Kyle's villa just a few days ago, and now it was Frank's turn.
The cop flashed his badge and said seriously, "We got a tip-off about contraband in this car. We need to search it. Please cooperate."
Frank glanced at the gun on the cop's hip and said calmly, "Go ahead."
Even though he was prepared for the possibility, he couldn't help but frown when the cops pulled a package from under the car, revealing several bags filled with suspicious white powder. The cop sniffed it, his expression quickly shifting to one of stern concern.
"Whose is this?" he asked.
Frank stayed cool and said, "I don't know. I went out to sea at dawn and just got back. You can check with the detectives."
Seeing Frank's cooperation, the cop's tone softened a bit. "This was found in your car. Whether it's yours or not, you need to come with us to the station to help with the investigation."
When Winona turned around, she saw Frank and a few others getting handcuffed and taken to a nearby car.
She had no idea what was going on and was about to get up to ask when the bodyguard stopped her. "Miss Sullivan, if you go over now, you'll get taken away too. If both you and Mr. Turner end up in the police station, it will be difficult to handle any unexpected situations."
They were searched as soon as they landed; it was clearly a setup.
"I get it."
Winona didn't go over but instead asked the shop owner who was watching.
The owner, surprised, pointed at her and then at the police car driving away. "You're not with them?"
Winona lied, "No, I met him at the intersection up ahead. He tried to get me into some quick money-making scheme, saying I could make hundreds of thousands in a day. I ignored him, and he followed me here."
The owner said with concern, "Good thing you didn't go with him. He's a drug dealer. The cops just found a big package in his car. These people are outrageous."
Winona thanked him and drove off.
By the time she got back to Dreamopolis, it was already afternoon. She headed straight to the Bailey Family estate, where the doctor was waiting at the door.
Evander, with a fishing rod in hand, was sitting by the pond. It used to be a flower bed where recently they had started keeping fish.
He had a good catch today and was in a great mood. When he saw Winona coming, he said, "Lydia's playing cards with her friends. I'll call her. If she knows you're here, she'll drop everything and rush home. The doctor said she shouldn't sit for too long, but she never listens."
As he reached for his phone, he glanced behind her. "Where's Zachary?"
Winona's voice was hoarse. "Dad, I need to talk to you about something. Can we go somewhere private?"
This couldn't be hidden, nor should it be. The Bailey Family had more connections and resources. She couldn't use the excuse of not wanting to upset them and miss the opportunity.
Evander said, "I'll go make a call."
After a few steps, he turned back and said, "Don't tell Lydia about this yet."
"I know," Winona didn't stay long. She needed to get back to Regal Oaks to pack her clothes and head to the coast to switch places with Rodolfo Knight, so he could handle Frank's situation.
She turned to the family doctor, saying, "Dr. Stewart, I'll need your help these next few days. Please keep an eye on Mr. Bailey and try not to leave him alone."
The sun was blazing outside.
As Winona reached the car, her body wavered uncontrollably. She hadn't slept all night, had fallen into the sea, and was overstressed. It was a miracle she had held on this long.
"Winona, I'll drive. You get some rest." A steady hand supported her.
It was Rebecca.
"What are you doing here?" Winona's face was as pale as a ghost, with salt particles from the sea still clinging to her messy hair and clothes.
"Dylan called me. I know everything. You need to take care of yourself to have the energy to find him."
"Okay."
Winona didn't refuse Rebecca's offer. She sat in the passenger seat and forced herself to sleep.
Frank was now in custody, and she needed to rest to keep going.
As soon as the car stopped at Regal Oaks, Winona woke up. Her eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep, and her steps were unsteady.
Rebecca supported her and said with a slight smile, "You go take a shower. I'll pack your clothes. Then we'll take the train. I've already contacted a car rental service there, and the car is ready. We can drive straight to the boat I've arranged."
Rebecca preferred taking action over offering empty comfort.
Winona's mind was a mess, and with Rebecca's help, she could take a brief mental break, saying, "Okay."
She opened the door.
The room was filled with the scent of flowers. Light-colored roses and daisies were arranged throughout the living room, accented with eucalyptus leaves and warm yellow fairy lights, creating a romantic and beautiful scene.
Winona was caught off guard and remembered what Zachary had said before they boarded the boat.
He said he had a surprise for her.
Winona clutched her chest, the sudden surge of emotions nearly unbearable. She hadn't cried since the incident, but at that moment, seeing the flowers, she felt tears stream down her face. Overwhelmed with emotion, her vision blurred, and she fainted.
