Chapter 274 Just Try a Few More Times
All the way home, Winona could still feel Zachary's gaze on her, so heavy and deep.
Rebecca was eating pizza with gloves on. Hearing the door open, she turned her head to look. In just a few seconds, Winona was already changing her shoes. "Why are you in such a hurry? Is someone chasing you?"
Winona glanced at the table. Apart from the Macaroni and cheese that would taste bad if it got cold, everything else was untouched. "Why aren't you eating?"
"I'm waiting for you." Rebecca took off her gloves and poured Winona a glass of wine. "You didn't say you wouldn't come back. I can't finish all this food by myself, so I just ate some pizza while waiting for you."
Winona was a bit thirsty and took a big gulp of the wine. "Is this what you call dieting?"
Rebecca got furious at that comment and started ranting, "I'm exhausted, okay? Everyone around Zachary is as crazy as him. I told him that buying antiques relies on having a good eye, but Anthony wouldn't believe me. Today, under this blazing sun, he dragged me out to buy antiques for his old man. I had planned to stay in the shop all day. I didn't even put on sunscreen or wear a sunhat. I was practically running in the street without any sun protection! Can you believe anyone would do such a thing?"
She tilted her head up, putting her face close to Winona's. "Look, my face is sunburned and peeling."
"And he asked me to help appraise the antiques. But while I was picking out items, he was in the back arguing with the shop owner over legal terms as if he were a leader cracking down on the industry. It's embarrassing. How am I gonna stay in that neighborhood anymore?"
Winona listened to her string of complaints and said, "Maybe Mr. Lewis was just being straightforward."
"Straightforward? More like insane. Luckily, we found something suitable today. Anyway, I never want to see his face again," Rebecca said, clearly full of resentment towards Anthony.
"By the way, what were you doing earlier? You seemed in such a hurry."
Winona explained everything, while Rebecca, still fuming, continued to curse Carlos. She teased Winona with a wink. "Is Zachary protecting you so eagerly because he's pursuing you?"
Winona held her wine glass, recalling Zachary's words, and frowned. "Maybe."
"What do you think?"
Though Rebecca wanted to set Winona up with Austin, she felt that Winona didn't have feelings for Austin, possibly because she hadn't gotten over Zachary.
"My previous marriage brought me so much pain. If you experienced such a marriage, what would you do now?"
Rebecca tilted her head, thought seriously for a moment, and answered, "I'd probably cut off his genitals."
Winona fell silent.
She shouldn't have made that assumption!
The next day, after work, Winona went straight to the hillside villa.
Emerson Tate had never been friendly to her, and today was no exception. He glared at her. "Sir heard you had trouble in City A and got you a bodyguard."
Winona was about to go upstairs but paused and turned sharply to look at Emerson. "He knows I had trouble in City A?"
Emerson Tate looked at her with disdain. "Sir knows everything."
Footsteps sounded, and Emerson instantly returned to his usual expressionless demeanor and turned to the kitchen.
Winona sighed.
Emerson was truly a fickle person.
She didn't plan on accepting the bodyguard from the faceless man. That person was mysterious, and the villa was full of oddities. If they were good people, Emerson wouldn't be so hostile. If they were herenemies, the bodyguard was probably there to kill her, not protect her.
She had prepared words of refusal, but to her surprise, the person who walked out was the man who had saved her in City A.
At that time, she had just inhaled the drug, and its effects hadn't fully kicked in. When the man got out of the car, she had a rough glimpse of his face.
"It's you!"
"Rodolfo Knight," the man introduced himself simply. "Sir asked me to watch over you."
"In City A, was it Sir who asked you to save me?"
Rodolfo frowned. "I was just unlucky to run into it." He was wearing short sleeves, revealing long, fresh scabs on his arm, clearly from the night he saved her.
Winona didn't believe a word. If it was a coincidence, why didn't he save her at the night market? They were in the car at that time, and she hadn't called for help. How did he know she was in danger? "Who is Sir? Or rather, which family in City A does Sir belong to?"
Her gaze was sharp.
Rodolfo remained calm. "The faceless one. If the voice hasn't changed, I only know Sir is a man, nothing else."
"You don't even know who hired you, and you dared to take the job?"
"I'm just a bodyguard. Someone paid me to take the job. I only need to know what the person I'm protecting looks like. It doesn't matter what the employer looks like."
Winona didn't believe it, but Rodolfo knew how to keep a secret. No matter how she probed, she couldn't get a useful word out.
Zachary was currently in a highly private psychologist's office, coldly watching as the doctor removed the examination instruments from him.
The psychologist adjusted his glasses and spoke in a gentle, rain-like voice. "Mr. Bailey, there's nothing physically wrong with you. In fact, you're more sensitive than most people. The issue you mentioned that you can't fully engage in intimacy with your partner is likely due to your nervousness. Your first experience wasn't good, and you're afraid of hurting her again, causing this reaction. I suggest you and your partner try more often, extend the foreplay to ease the tension. Of course, I will also do my best to counsel you."
Zachary entered the consultation room with a grim face and left with an even grimmer one. Ignoring Samuel, who was sitting on the couch waiting for him, hewalked straight out.
Samuel was texting when he caught a glimpse of black dress pants flashing past in his peripheral vision. He looked up, bewildered, only to see Zachary already walking away.
He exclaimed in surprise and got up to chase after him. "What's wrong with you? Did the doctor say you're impotent?"
Zachary's face was livid. The doctor's ridiculous solution was worse than being called impotent. "Shut up."
Samuel coughed and spoke in a soothing, almost doting tone. "Where are you going?"
Zachary gritted his teeth. "To find Winona."
