Chapter 96 The Doctor Can't Cure His Illness

With toothpaste foam in her mouth, Winona looked at Rebecca, who just directly replied, "Zachary gave it to her."

But Zachary didn't seem to have any intention of hiding it, which was why she could easily find out. However, it also proved that this jerk wasn't being considerate. Most couples are united and have each other's backs, but he, on the other hand, was specifically supporting someone who was against his own wife.

Winona had no idea about this, "How much did he give?"

Rebecca extended her hand and gestured with an astronomical number, "Without his money, Layla wouldn't even be able to afford a decent meal, let alone invest in Mean Company."

Winona nodded, "I understand. Thank you."

Originally, she only wanted Layla to be fired from Mean Company, to balance out the incident where Layla had used the media against her. But now that Layla was a shareholder of Mean Company, she needed to find another way.

The three of them survived by selling their deceased mother's belongings, and Winona intended to make sure they paid back every single cent.

Rebecca waved her hand nonchalantly, "It's just a small favor, no need to thank me. If you need any more help, just let me know."

Seeing that Winona had finished getting ready, Rebecca lowered her hand and stood straight, "Let's go eat. I have things to attend to tonight, and it's getting late."

Neither of them wanted to go too far, so they randomly chose a restaurant. Winona checked the top searches and found that the news about Fiona going to Regal Oaks to find Zachary had been taken down. It seemed someone had suppressed it.

Considering the speed at which this happened, she knew who was behind it.

For the next three days, Winona stayed at home while Rebecca tried to keep her busy with various tasks. Mr. Baker called, asking her to come back to View Studio, but she refused.

On this day, she was sighing in front of a painting when she received a call from Sarah, "Madam, could you please come back? Mrs. is supposed to go to the hospital for a check-up today, but she's having a fight with the young master and refuses to go."

"Is Zachary there?"

"The young master couldn't leave the company, so Mr. Collins came."

These were the things Winona used to handle. Since Sarah knew about her upcoming divorce from Zachary, she didn't want to bother her, but Mrs. was in a bad mood and refused to listen to anyone. Even Dylan was suffering because of it.

Winona agreed to go.

Lydia was angry with Zachary, probably because of their divorce. Winona needed to persuade her first, even if she didn't agree, at least she shouldn't oppose it to avoid further complications.

When she returned to Crest Manor, Lydia was sitting on the couch throwing a tantrum, "I told you, there's nothing wrong with my health, I don't need a check-up," she glared at Dylan standing in front of her, "The one who needs to go to the hospital is Zachary. Go make an appointment with an ophthalmologist and a neurologist, let's see if he's blind or just brainless. Instead of keeping the treasure, he insistently rummages through the garbage dump without minding the stench."

Dylan felt like he would die young. Mrs. Bailey and Miss Sullivan were getting more venomous by the day!

"Oh, and make sure it's an appointment with a top-notch specialist. Regular doctors can't cure his condition."

From now on, she must stick with Mrs. Bailey and not give in to Fiona.

Half a decent face!

Sarah frowned in distress, "Mrs. Bailey, Young Master is also concerned about your health. The doctor already made an appointment. Why don't you go and have a look?"

"I..." Lydia was about to refuse, to say she absolutely wouldn't go, when she heard Winona's voice coming from the doorway, "Mom..."

Seeing her daughter-in-law, her face instantly showed a kind smile, and her voice softened a few degrees, "What a wonderful surprise! What brings you here?"

Winona sat beside her, "Sarah said you didn't want to go for a follow-up check-up, so I came to see if it's true."

"Sarah, you still don't know. Whenever it's serious, I just say that. I'm just waiting a bit because the weather is too cold. It's not like I don't want to go."

Sarah quickly explained, "Yes, Mrs. Bailey was just about to leave. Since you're here, why don't you accompany her? We're too old to understand that intelligent system at the hospital."

Of course, this was just an excuse. Being a nanny in the Bailey family, even if you weren't skilled in everything, you had to be able to handle trivial matters like online registrations and accompanying visits to the doctor. You had to keep up with the times.

Lydia patted Winona's hand, "My previous examination papers are in Zachary's study. Can you fetch them for me?"

"Sure."

It was good that she was willing to go for the follow-up check-up. It would only require Winona to go upstairs to collect the report and wouldn't be much trouble. Winona didn't mention that the doctors kept records, and many test results needed to be rechecked if more than a week had passed.

While Winona went to the study, Sarah curiously asked, "Mrs. Bailey, aren't the examination reports here?"

Lydia threw the leather paper bag beside her at her, "Put it in the drawer of the TV cabinet. If Winona asks later, just say you remembered wrong."

Seeing that she was genuinely curious, Lydia generously explained, "My worthless son is completely incapable of expressing himself properly. He lacks the ability to accurately say what he really wants. If I don't let Winona go to his study to get the report, how can she see her photo on Zachary's desk? I'm sure that worthless boy is interested in Winona, otherwise why would he have her photo in his study?"

Later, Lydia pursed her lips in disdain, "I really don't know who he takes after. His father used to pursue me directly, without any ambiguity."

This was the first time that Winona was entering Zachary's study. He didn't spend much time here before they got married, and he came back even less frequently after their wedding.

The study wasn't big, with nothing else besides a desk, bookshelves, and a sofa.

She didn't look around, but went straight in and opened the desk drawer to find the report.

She didn't find the report, but instead, saw something extremely familiar.

It was a framed painting, with obscure and gloomy colors covering a small piece of paper. If you looked closely, you could make out the silhouette of a woman.

However, that silhouette was wrapped in heavy cool tones, extremely blurred. Though it was a frontal view, there was no face.

Staring at it for too long, it would evoke a chilling fear and an uncontrollable sadness - the emotions captured in Winona's painting. Her slender fingers gently rested upon it, as if wanting to touch the uneven canvas through the glass.

This was her graduation piece, the one that was bought at a high price by a mysterious person, propelling her into the limelight only to plunge her into overnight despair. When she first heard that it was sold, she found it strange because this painting wasn't something pleasing to the eye.

Even her teacher almost called her parents when the final piece was done, suggesting she should see a psychologist. Moreover, as a fine arts student, she couldn't expect her works to appreciate significantly in a short period of time.

Winona's lips curled in self-mockery. So why did Zachary buy such a low-quality artwork that completely contradicted his status?

Downstairs, Lydia frowned as she noticed Winona hadn't come down for a while. She couldn't help but remark to Dylan, who had been a background stand-in all this time, "Why don't you go and check? Could it be that she's gone mad with happiness?"
