Chapter 610 The Translucent Veil
Winona was feeling drowsy, but Zachary's suggestion jolted her wide awake.
Zachary's tactic left Winona with no way to counter. She was already exhausted and didn't want to move. Now, lying on the soft bed, wrapped in warm air, and having enjoyed his massage, she was even more reluctant to get up.
Her already weak willpower crumbled completely.
Seeing the hint of compromise in her eyes, Zachary continued to coax her softly, "There's a clothing store downstairs. You have to go downstairs to get back to the hotel anyway. Let's just take a look. If we don't find anything suitable, we can decide then."
Winona remained silent.
If she stayed here tonight, she would have to wake up an hour earlier tomorrow to meet her colleagues at the hotel.
Whether she chose to wake up early or stay up late, it felt like a lose-lose situation.
Seeing her still hesitating, Zachary played his trump card, "How about I go downstairs and buy something for you?"
Winona, recalling his questionable taste in fashion, sat up abruptly. "Let's go together."
To avoid becoming the center of attention tomorrow, she decided it was best to pick out her own clothes.
The store downstairs wasn't a high-end brand, just a regular fashion store with decent quality but attractive styles.
Winona, who had been too tired to move, suddenly felt energized upon seeing the pretty clothes.
She picked out a long white down jacket and held it up against herself, "How does this look?"
Zachary replied, "It looks great."
Winona then picked out a coat and held both up, "Which one looks better?"
"They both look great."
Winona had glowing skin, a tall and slender figure, and a beautiful face. Her thick, shiny hair added to her charm. She could make even a plain burlap sack look good.
Her enthusiasm for shopping was dampened by a third, "You might as well be a wooden post. At least that wouldn't be as annoying."
Zachary got a bit anxious, "They really both look great."
The sales assistant smiled, "Miss, why don't you try them both on?"
She thoughtfully picked out two sets of inner layers as well. Rosewood City was a romantic place, and its residents were equally romantic. After Winona entered the fitting room, the sales assistant gave Zachary some advice on how to respond to women, "Ladies usually prefer a thoughtful choice rather than a generic 'they both look great.'"
Zachary frowned, "Why choose? If she can't decide, it means she likes both. If she likes both, then we should buy both."
Money wasn't an issue for him, so he saw no need to choose when he could afford both.
The store wasn't large, so Winona could hear Zachary's words clearly from the fitting room. She imagined the sales assistant's bewildered expression and couldn't help but chuckle.
Even someone as socially adept as Samuel couldn't change Zachary's straightforward nature. No way a few words from a sales assistant could fix his low emotional intelligence.
Winona tried on both outfits and was still torn, "Should I buy the down jacket or the coat?"
The coat would be cold at night, and the down jacket would be too warm in a few days, but both looked great.
If she were at home, it wouldn't be a problem, but she was on a business trip and didn't want to lug around extra luggage.
Zachary said, "Then buy both."
He couldn't understand Winona's dilemma. If she liked both, why not buy both?
"No, my suitcase is already full."
"Then throw something out," Zachary suggested, "or hire an assistant to carry your luggage."
"I just bought these clothes. It would be a waste to throw them out," she replied, still torn between the two outfits. She ignored his last suggestion, "I'll buy the coat. The down jacket will be too warm soon."
Zachary remembered how cold her hands were when he picked her up from the museum that night, "Buy both. The weather forecast says it will warm up in a few days. I'll take the down jacket back for you when I leave."
He expected Winona to continue debating, but she surprised him by handing the clothes to the sales assistant, "Wrap them up."
Zachary was speechless.
He had hoped to experience a dramatic moment like in TV shows, where the male lead's assertiveness makes the female lead's heart race. He even had his lines ready, but there was no chance to use them.
He felt a bit stifled.
After buying the clothes, Winona asked the sales assistant for the location of a lingerie store. Zachary, who had been indifferent to her choices earlier, suddenly had a lot of opinions.
"This one's too small."
"This one's too black."
"This one's pattern is ugly."
"This one..."
In short, whatever she picked, he had a reason to reject it. When Winona's face turned completely dark, Zachary finally found one he liked, "How about this one?"
Winona looked at his choice: black, ultra-thin, sexy lace, front clasp...
She snorted, "Men."
This wasn't about looking good; it was clearly for his own benefit. She knew exactly what he was thinking.
Winona smiled mischievously at him, "You like this style?"
Zachary replied, "It suits you."
He spoke with a straight face, but his reddening ears gave him away. Winona almost believed she had misunderstood him.
Damn Zachary, he'd say anything to get her to wear that. Lingerie wasn't about matching, and most of her picks were black anyway.
Winona's smile was anything but genuine, "Alright, I'll try it on."
She took the lingerie into the fitting room, where there was a mirror. She had to admit, Zachary's taste was good in some areas.
When she finished trying it on and changed back into her clothes, Zachary had already paid and was holding several shopping bags. "Let's go."
"Wait," Winona said, winking at him. Under Zachary's puzzled gaze, she walked over to the intimate section and picked out an ultra-sexy men's thong.
The semi-transparent mesh, a small piece of fabric, was held delicately in her long fingers.
Zachary's ears had only been red before, but now his entire face turned a light shade of red. He lowered his head and pulled out his card to pay, avoiding looking at what she was holding.
