Chapter 669 Special Care

Lydia had a nightmare. Ever since that terrifying scene at the hospital, whether it was real or a dream, her mental state had been spiraling. She was plagued by insomnia, frequent nightmares, irritability, and her physical health was deteriorating.

Even though Evander was always careful, never leaving her side, and even hired a psychologist, it didn't ease the heartache triggered by her nightmares. In the end, he had to send her to a private hospital.

They didn't bring the doctor home because heart issues, once they flare up, require highly precise medical equipment that they didn't have at home.

Lydia woke up from her dream and saw a nurse sitting by her bed, wearing a mask and a hat. She felt a bit relieved. "Can you get me some water?"

She had a vague feeling that something was off, but she was still groggy from sleep and couldn't quite figure it out.

The nurse stood up, unscrewed the thermos on the bedside table, and poured some water.

Lydia propped herself up on her elbow, about to get up, when she suddenly realized something.

This nurse was a man, but Evander had hired a female nurse for her. She had only glanced at him briefly, and he had his head down, so she didn't notice at first. Now that he stood up, his height revealed his gender.

Moreover, his outfit was strange. Wearing a mask was one thing, but why would he wear a hat if he wasn't a surgeon?

Lydia watched as he slowly handed her the water cup, her fingers clutching the bedsheet tightly. She gritted her teeth and called out, "Alton."

She had mentioned this name recently, but calling it out loud felt different from mentioning it behind someone's back.

Alton's eyes crinkled slightly, showing noticeable wrinkles at the corners. "I'm so glad the little girl I like still remembers me, and remembers me so well."

He took off his mask in front of Lydia, revealing the same face from her memories, just a bit older.

Lydia felt nauseous hearing his words.

A man in his fifties, still spouting this fake gentlemanly nonsense, it was disgusting.

"Get out," Lydia grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, then turned to get her phone to call Evander. Alton didn't stop her, instead, he smirked, "Aren't you curious why he, who has been by your side every day, isn't here today?"

Lydia glared at him, "What did you do?"

He pushed a wheelchair he had prepared earlier, "It's been a while. Shall we go for a walk?"

Anger finally overcame fear. Lydia, who had been gentle for nearly twenty years, was once again provoked by this pervert Alton.

She cursed, "Are you out of your mind? You're fifty-something, do you think this is a movie, a novel, playing these stupid games? Doctor!"

Alton interrupted her lightly, "Zachary and his wife had a little accident. He went to handle it."

Lydia's face changed dramatically, "Did you do it?"

"Would you like to go for a walk with me now?"

"You think I'll believe you."

Despite her words, she actually believed him. Evander had been by her side all this time, and if it wasn't something extremely urgent, he wouldn't leave without telling her.

Alton showed her a photo of Zachary and Winona tied to chairs. If Lydia's heart wasn't weak and couldn't handle the shock, he would have shown her a video.

"What do you want?" Lydia asked, her voice trembling. Alton had said he wanted to take a walk, but once they were downstairs, he put her in a car. They had been driving for over half an hour without stopping.

"Lydia, come abroad with me, okay? Whatever Evander can give you, I can too." Alton looked down at her, his eyes filled with a twisted obsession.

"What about Zachary and Winona? What did you do to them?"

"They're fine for now, but I can't guarantee they won't be harmed if this drags on. Agree to come abroad with me, and I'll release them."

"I'll go abroad with you, but you have to release them first. What if you change your mind after I go?"

Alton sneered, not trusting Lydia. He played a video, "No rush, take a look first."

Lydia glanced at it and became furious, her eyes red with rage. She reached out and scratched Alton's face, "How dare you hit my son? I wouldn't even hit him, and you think you can?"

Alton quickly restrained her, but his face was scratched, burning with pain. "Will you come with me, or should I start a live broadcast? Those people aren't like me; they're rough and don't know how to hold back."

"You can forget about Evander finding them. That place is hidden, and if they die, even their bodies won't be found."

Lydia gave in, "I'll go with you. Release Zachary and Winona."

Alton was a psychopath. Others might be bluffing, but he would definitely do it. Who else would go to such lengths just to take an old woman abroad?

"Alright."

He held Lydia's hand.

Lydia instinctively wanted to pull away, but thinking of Zachary and Winona still in his hands, she forced herself to endure it, like being bitten by a snake.

Alton quickly let go, took out his phone, and sent a message to the person watching Zachary: [No use, 1.]

1 meant kill, 2 meant release. This was the agreed code, but he never intended to press '2'.

The driver glanced in the rearview mirror, "Sir, it looks like a car is following us."

Alton raised an eyebrow, "Evander's people? They caught up so quickly?"

He looked back, "Oh, it's that Anderson kid. Drive however you want, lose them."

The driver looked at Lydia with concern, "If we drive too fast, she might not be able to handle it."

Alton looked down, smiling at Lydia, "Lydia, you can handle it, right? I didn't bring your medication. If you can't handle it and something happens, I can't guarantee Zachary and Winona's lives."

Lydia gritted her teeth, "I can handle it. Don't worry about me."

"Good girl."

The car sped up instantly, shooting forward. Lydia clutched her heart, bending over in pain. She wanted to hold on, but her body wasn't obeying her will.

Alton's driver was experienced, and Samuel's people were no slouches either, especially since they were prepared.

Soon, their car was forced to stop by the roadside. Lydia was now slumped weakly in the seat, gasping for breath, but stubbornly refusing to ask Alton for medication.

Because even if she asked, he wouldn't give it.

The door of the car behind them opened, and a long leg stepped out.
