Chapter 442 Altering Memories
Timothy stared at his phone, picturing the moment Nicholas would call him, all riled up after seeing the photo. The anticipation of this reaction lifted Timothy's mood, a smug grin spreading across his once gloomy face.
But the message seemed to vanish into thin air, not even causing a stir.
Timothy glanced coldly at Winona's surprised face in the photo, lightly tracing her neck with his finger. "So annoying."
He wore an arrogant and provocative expression, with a smirk and a raised chin, a stark contrast to the innocent demeanor he had shown in front of Winona earlier.
He then hailed a cab and headed straight to the Ramsey Group.
The assistant, knowing Timothy's connection with Nicholas, didn't dare to stop him but knocked on the door before Timothy could push it open.
Timothy's raised hand paused mid-air as he turned to the nervous assistant beside him, lips curling slightly. "Are you Nicholas's new assistant?"
The assistant nodded. "Yes."
He wasn't from the executive secretary department but was promoted by Nicholas.
Timothy stared at him for a moment before saying, "You seem loyal. Nicholas has good taste. Be careful and don't accidentally fall down the stairs like the previous assistant."
The assistant stayed silent, sensing that Timothy wasn't too pleased with him.
"Come in." Nicholas's voice came from inside.
Hearing this, Timothy pushed the door open and walked in.
Nicholas was reading some documents and didn't even look up. "What is it?" he asked.
"Guess what I just did?" Timothy asked, walking behind Nicholas and leaning over to look at the documents in Nicholas's hands. His voice was filled with a tempting smile.
Nicholas replied, "You went to see Miss Sullivan."
Timothy asked again, "Did you see the photo I sent you?"
Nicholas responded, "Yes."
Timothy couldn't quite read Nicholas's thoughts from his expression. "Since you saw it, why didn't you reply to my message?" he asked.
With that, he took out his phone, turned the volume to silent, and dialed the latest call record. "Miss Sullivan is really beautiful. No wonder you like her. I've never seen you interested in any woman before," he said.
"I told you that I don't like her," Nicholas said, glancing coldly at Timothy. "What happened last night was an accident. I was drunk, and she just saw me as a substitute for Zachary. Don't bring it up again."
Timothy said, "But I think Miss Sullivan likes you."
Nicholas said, "She doesn't like me; she likes my face. I won't let the Bailey family off the hook. Even though she's just Zachary's ex-wife, she's carrying the Bailey family's child. All my injuries are thanks to them. Do you think I would fall for her? She's not some irreplaceable beauty. Even if I'm single now, I'm not desperate enough to go for a pregnant woman."
He stared at the document's content but couldn't focus on a single word. He continued, "The only reason I'm interacting with her is because of her special status. She's Evander's daughter-in-law, Zachary's assistant, and she has access to the board of directors. I want to gather some information about the Bailey Group's recent moves from her."
Satisfied with Nicholas's answer, Timothy said, "Then I won't disturb your work. I'll head back now. I still have to volunteer at the orphanage later."
Hearing this, Nicholas frowned. "Volunteering at the orphanage is dirty and tiring. Why do you insist on suffering? If you need money, I'll give it to you."
He reached for his wallet, but Timothy stopped him. "No need. I really like those kids. I stayed at that orphanage for a while before. Unfortunately, I met a bad teacher. Back then, I kept thinking how great it would be if someone suddenly appeared to save me. It didn't matter if it was a man or a woman, as long as they could get me out of that hellhole. Even just reporting it to the police would have been good. So now I want to make sure I take better care of those kids."
With that, Timothy left Nicholas's office, glanced at his phone, and saw the call was still connected. He put the phone to his ear. "Miss Sullivan, I'm sorry. I apologize on behalf of Nicholas. I didn't know..."
Before he could finish, he hung up the phone, as if too ashamed to face Winona. His previously non-threatening voice now sounded both anxious and guilty.
Winona looked at her phone, which had been hung up, and fell into silence.
She had been puzzled when she saw Timothy's call, wondering why he was calling her again after they had just met. As soon as she answered, she heard his conversation with Nicholas and instantly understood his intentions.
She raised an eyebrow, thinking Timothy was quite cunning.
As soon as Timothy left the Ramsey Group building, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and walked to a secluded corner with a stern face. He answered, "Dad."
"You went to the Ramsey Group again?" the person on the other end of the line was clearly unhappy, and his voice was full of impatience.
"Yes," Timothy replied, not surprised that the other person knew his whereabouts. That man had been lurking in the Ramsey Group for many years, and there wasn't a single department in the building without his people.
"Haven't I told you to avoid appearing in front of him as much as possible?" the man shouted. "Are you so confident in your hypnosis that you think you can completely alter his memories?"
He had initially opposed Timothy's unstable method. It was just a psychological suggestion. Could it really be so miraculous as to make someone forget the past and implant entirely new memories?
If it worked, wouldn't that mean anyone could be made to serve their purposes?
The man said, "It would be better to follow my plan: kill him and send his body to the Bailey family. They only have one child. If Zachary dies, the Bailey family will eventually collapse."
"Dad, I succeeded." Timothy's voice was filled with uncontrollable excitement. "He's now fully focused on taking down the Bailey family. He's already snatched several of their partnerships and treats me like his brother. He doesn't even recognize his wife when she's standing right in front of him. After what they did to me, I won't let them off easily. I want them to watch the Bailey Group crumble at the hands of their son. I want Evander and Lydia to regret not adopting me back then."
Every time he thought about the past, Timothy's hatred grew. He still couldn't understand why they would change their minds overnight after they had promised to adopt him.
When he heard he was going to be adopted, no one knew how happy he was. He celebrated with a good meal and waited anxiously all night, only to receive news of their change of heart.
Timothy thought that it must have been because of Zachary. If they didn't have a child, they would have adopted him.
Excitedly, Timothy said, "Not just the Bailey Group. Evander, Lydia, and his child will all be destroyed by him."
On the other end of the line, the man was silent for a while. If he could go back, he wouldn't have let Timothy, this indecisive fool, handle this matter. "Things better be progressing as you say. I'll give you no more than six months. If you haven't achieved the results I want by then, you know the consequences."
