Chapter 395 That is Frank's Daughter
Winona sneered, "Miss Turner, maybe you should read more books, think less about guys, and get some sleep. Asking dumb questions like that will just get you laughed at. Are we even that close? Bombarding me with calls from different numbers is harassment and illegal. Be glad I haven't called the cops on you, and you still wonder why I didn't pick up."
Eva stayed quiet, stunned by Winona's comeback. After a moment, she finally said, "You're really showing your low-class roots, no manners at all."
Winona shot back, "People with manners don't usually snatch clothes from others."
The sales assistant came running up, panting, and said while unwrapping the package, "Ma'am, try it on and see if it fits."
Winona, now in no mood to try it on, said, "Just wrap it up."
This was her usual style, so she knew it would suit her.
Eva was still fuming, trying to figure out how to save face in front of Winona. She didn't want to lose, even over a couple of pieces of clothing. But if she snatched them, it would just prove Winona's point about her lack of manners.
As she was thinking, a sharp voice suddenly came from the door.
"Eva, you're eager to break off the engagement with my son because you have been having an affair!"
Winona, standing closer to the door, saw a dark shadow flash by, and the wind lifted the strands of hair at her temples, making them itch.
Behind her, Eva shouted angrily, "You crazy woman, get lost! Don't you know your own son's condition? Whether he can live is still a question. You want to ruin me? Impossible. Let me tell you, even if I die, I'll take you down with me."
Winona turned around to see a middle-aged woman clutching Eva's collar tightly. The expensive designer clothes worth tens of thousands of dollars were being turned into a burlap sack, and the woman was muttering to herself, clearly unhinged.
Winona quickly stepped back to a safe distance to watch the drama unfold, while Eva's male companion had already retreated even earlier.
The two exchanged a glance, and Winona asked, "Aren't you going to help?"
"I can't help," he said, grabbing some snacks at the cashier's desk. "Want some?"
Winona instinctively reached out to take them, but as soon as she extended her hand, Zachary, who had just finished his call and walked in, grabbed it. "That's how Snow White got poisoned."
Zachary glanced at the scene and said, "Shall we go somewhere else?"
He wasn't interested in watching women fight.
"Sure, let's go."
Winona took one last look at the scene. Eva was struggling to breathe as she tried to pull her clothes from the woman's grip but failed several times. "I don't even know your son. You're forcing my dad to marry me off to him because of some old favor. We're both women; how can you be so cruel, forcing a good girl to marry your son, who is in a vegetative state? The doctor said he wouldn't wake up, and you still..."
A loud slap landed on Eva's face, cutting her off mid-sentence. "How dare you curse my son? I'll beat you to death, you bitch. My son is like this because of you people. Blame your bad luck. You're the only one of the right age in the Turner Family."
Eva was stunned, her mind in a daze. The slap was like a lightning bolt, snapping her back to reality.
Winona was also jolted awake.
She finally got why Eva was so obsessed with whether she was Frank's kid. She had wondered why Eva would want another person to compete for the family inheritance.
If Frank had no children, his assets would eventually go to his nieces and nephews.
At that moment, Winona was walking out with Zachary. Hearing the commotion, she quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him out, saying, "Let's get out of here. Something bad is about to go down."
She wasn't curious about who her biological father was. To her, he was just a stranger with whom she shared blood but who had never raised her or visited her. It didn't matter who he was.
So when she learned that Frank had a past relationship with her mother, she didn't think about digging deeper. Even after hearing Eva's words, she had no such thoughts.
To Winona, no one was more important than her mother.
The next second, Eva pointed at her and sneered, "I'm not the only woman of the right age in the Turner Family? That's Frank's daughter, and she's around my age."
She looked down at the middle-aged woman with disdain, saying, "You're so desperate to marry me to your son because he's dying. She's also suitable for your son."
When people were pushed to the brink, they would believe even the most far-fetched things.
The middle-aged woman looked suspiciously in Winona's direction, saying, "Really? You're not just pointing at someone to fool me, are you?"
"Can you lie about something like this? Take her and my hair for a DNA test, and you'll know everything."
Eva's mind was once again filled with malicious plans, deciding to shift the conflict to Winona.
This woman, relying on the Turners' debt to her, was fierce and domineering. Didn't she see her family's current situation? How dare she dream of marrying Eva? Her grandfather must have been senile to arrange such a marriage. Even if it was to repay a favor, money would have sufficed.
If Frank didn't want Winona to marry, he would do everything to annul the marriage. Otherwise, he would be showing favoritism.
"Frank cherishes her so much that he even let her take her mother's surname to avoid being tied to you," Eva reminded. "If you don't chase after her now, you'll miss the only chance to wake your son."
She was anxious, wondering why the foolish woman hadn't chased after them yet.
Although the woman still didn't fully believe it, she let go of Eva and chased after Winona. Eva couldn't escape, but the other one might.
Wouldn't that give her son a chance to wake up?
Frank, that cunning man, had left behind such a daughter.
She ran quickly and reached out to grab Winona, but before she could touch her clothes, Zachary grabbed her hand and said in the coldest tone, "What do you think you're doing?"
