Chapter 29 Going Home for Dinner
After confirming that the painting was genuine, Winona carefully put it back into the box and handed the prepared contract to Fiona for signing.
Fiona signed the document while mocking her, "As a talented art student, you sold a painting for three million dollars before even graduating. How does it feel to have now fallen to the position of being someone's assistant?"
This incident can be considered a permanent stain in Winona's life.
However, Fiona still couldn't see Winona's anger. Her face, which was both enchanting and cold, remained indifferent.
Without saying a word, Winona turned and walked away, holding the painting.
She walked with a straight back the whole way until she got into a taxi, where she finally collapsed like a deflated ball.
It should be noted that the painting was severely damaged, and there was a lot of work to be done in a tight timeframe. Winona couldn't afford to waste any more time, so she went home as soon as she received the painting.
In her two-bedroom apartment, one room was converted into her studio.
Winona spread protective paper on the drawing board, brushed it with water to flatten it, and placed the completely transformed ancient painting on it, spraying it with lukewarm water around 50 degrees.
The process of washing the painting required a lot of patience, and by the time she finished the first step, it was already completely dark outside.
Winona's concentration was interrupted by her phone vibrating. She glanced at the screen: it was Zachary calling.
Her gaze fell on the ancient painting in front of her, and she recalled Fiona's provoking words earlier, about the supplementary card that Zachary had given out...
The woman answered the call with a slightly furrowed brow and an impatient tone, "Do you need something?"
On the other end, Zachary furrowed his brow as well, "Are you busy today?"
"If you have something to say, say it. If not, I'll hang up," she said, about to end the call. However, the man's command that followed left her stunned for a moment, "Come downstairs."
"What?" Winona took a few seconds to react and immediately walked to the window, lifting the curtain. As expected, she saw his familiar Bentley downstairs. He had actually come here.
"I still have things to do. Say what you want over the phone," she said, afraid that seeing Zachary would make it difficult for her to control her emotions. She wanted to smash his face with her high heels!
While coldly and mercilessly seeking a lawyer and settling accounts with his wife, he let his lover flaunt his supplementary card everywhere!
"I'm taking you out to eat," Zachary's semi-smiling voice came again after a few seconds of pause, "Or should I come up and pick you up for the restaurant?"
Winona declined decisively, "I'm not hungry, I won't eat."
"My mom is the one who made the reservation at the restaurant. If you don't go, call her yourself."
With that statement, Winona's momentum decreased by half.
Previously, Lydia hoped they could go out for a regular couple's date every now and then, and she put in a lot of effort for it. Occasionally, she would book a romantic restaurant for them to spend some quality time together, but Zachary was too cold by nature. Not only did they not go on dates, he didn't even engage in public displays of affection like holding hands. As for romantic restaurants, they had never been to one before. Now he suddenly wanted to act like an obedient son?
However, after hesitating for a few seconds, Winona still went downstairs.
She hadn't eaten since noon, and she was actually starving. Aside from a few bottles of yogurt, there was no food in the refrigerator.
Just think of it as filling her stomach!
Lydia's choice was still very romantic.
The dimly lit restaurant, flickering candles on the table, soothing piano music, and secluded booths all created the perfect atmosphere for a date.
As Winona walked in from the entrance, she caught sight of several couples kissing...
She turned her head to look at Zachary, almost instinctively, without any other meaning behind it, except maybe awkwardness.
Seeing Zachary still wearing that expressionless look, but hearing his words made Winona want to slap him right then and there, "What, jealous? Do you want it too?"
Suppressing the urge to hit him, Winona lowered her voice, "There might be reporters here."
In such a setting, gossip reporters would surely catch some high-profile scandals. The reason he didn't want to come earlier was probably because he was afraid of being exposed in their marriage.
Seeing Zachary's indifference, Winona considered her reminder unnecessary.
Finally, she sighed and replied to his earlier question, "I am a bit jealous, but the more I think about being with you, the less I want it."
"If you don't want to kiss me, then who do you want to kiss?"
Zachary turned around, his chin tightened, his dark eyes staring at her, unwavering. Even in this dim light, she could clearly see the hostility in his gaze.
As he spoke, he was being deliberately provocative, and many people around them heard it, their gazes directed at them, with smug smiles on their faces.
Winona didn't want to stand in the center of the hall discussing such embarrassing topics with him and quickly found a seat.
She hurriedly returned and started ordering from the menu, reminding the waiter, "Please be quick."
Watching her anxious demeanor, Zachary frowned, "Are you starving?"
Winona thought, "I just don't want to be with you, that's all."
She didn't say those words. As they waited for their food, Winona brought up the contents of their agreement, "I will repay the three billion dollars I owe you."
In the shadow, Zachary's eyes still remained gloomy, saying the same words he had said on the phone, "Why should I trust you?"
Winona was starting to lose it!
He was doing this on purpose, even though she promised to repay the money, he was still dragging it out.
"Fiona is back. Aren't you worried?"
Zachary didn't even lift his head, "I am worried, that's why you should repay the money quickly."
"I won't default on the debt just because we're getting divorced," Winona tried to reason with him emotionally, "Besides, three billion dollars means nothing to you."
Zachary raised his eyes, his gaze falling on her anxious face, and finally, he smiled, "Mrs. Bailey, just because I'm not short of money, you think you can act stubbornly. Who gave you such confidence? Instead of wasting time arguing here, why not find a way to earn three billion dollars as soon as possible?"
Winona was infuriated by his words, gritting her teeth, "I won't allow you to address me like this anymore!"
Throughout their marriage, he always addressed her by her full name, without any hint of intimacy. Now that they were about to divorce, he suddenly started calling her "Mrs. Bailey" at every opportunity.
Listening is ironic!
Zachary sneered coldly, "Don't want to be Mrs. Bailey, but want to be Mrs. Marshall?"
