Chapter 434 Push Her Down the Stairs

Winona lifted her chin, her eyes catching the light above, making them sparkle. "I'll curse back all those things you said about him being dead."

Nicholas stayed quiet. His lips twitched into a slight smile but quickly fell. "Do you like him that much?"

Winona shot back, "This is between him and me, it has nothing to do with anyone else."

Nicholas said, "But I heard you and Mr. Bailey are still divorced. If you like him so much, why haven't you two remarried?"

Winona raised an eyebrow at him. "Take off your pants, and I'll tell you."

Her tone was as serious as when she was writing her research papers. Such a bold statement, yet it didn't stir any desire.

Nicholas said, "Do you think if Mr. Bailey were still alive, he would leave you and the kid behind?"

He stepped closer to Winona, placing a hand on her belly. "Or rather, if I were Mr. Bailey, what good would it do to appear as Nicholas?"

The contact was startling. His hand on her belly sent a shiver through her. She couldn't tell if it was an unconscious action or something else.

But the person in front of her was still Nicholas. When his hand touched her, she instinctively stepped back a few steps to avoid his touch, forgetting that her other hand was still held by him. The sudden movement threw her off balance, making her fall backward uncontrollably.

Nicholas caught her waist, pulling her back into his arms. Winona's nose hit his shoulder, causing her to cover her nose in pain and let out a muffled groan.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" His voice was urgent, filled with uncontrollable panic. He wanted to push Winona away to check if she was injured but was afraid his actions might hurt her, so he remained stiff and unmoving.

Winona, pressed against him, could feel Nicholas's increasingly rapid heartbeat.

Seeing her remain silent, Nicholas held her shoulders and pushed her away slightly, his brows furrowed tightly. "Winona, speak up. Where did you get hurt?"

Looking at this familiar face and hearing the unfamiliar voice coming from his lips, Winona felt her eyes suddenly well up. "Zachary."

Nicholas looked at her, his breathing heavy, his expression suddenly changing, as if some emotion was churning but was being suppressed deep within his pupils.

In that moment of his distraction, Winona's hand once again reached for his belt buckle.

But the metal belt buckle wasn't easy to undo, and Nicholas wasn't cooperating. Winona tried several times before finally pulling out the section of the belt tucked into the loop.

Nicholas didn't dare to restrain her as he had before, wary that her sudden movements might cause her harm. His attempts to dodge her advancing hands made him seem quite flustered.

Moreover, his genitalia had reacted.

Nicholas turned sideways, avoiding her reaching hand, and said with a stern face, "Miss Sullivan, does Mr. Bailey know about this peculiar habit of yours of randomly pulling down other people's pants..."

Before he could finish his sentence, they both stopped. In the struggle, the hem of his shirt tucked into his pants was lifted, revealing a third of his abdominal skin.

Yet, even just that third was enough to shock Winona. "What's going on with you?"

She wanted to lift Nicholas's shirt a bit more, but before she could act, the fabric in her hand was pulled back.

Nicholas tucked his shirt back in, his face cold. "Do you now believe that I'm not him?"

Nicholas's body was covered in scars—some deep, some shallow. Some had healed, while others still bore scabs. At first glance, it was quite shocking.

Winona was stunned. "You..."

The office door swung open, and Timothy walked in. His handsome face showed a moment of surprise, then he smiled. "Nicholas, is she your girlfriend?"

Nicholas walked back to his desk, lowering his head to tidy up the mess. "This is Ms. Sullivan from the Bailey Group. She's here to discuss cooperation. Why didn't you call before coming? Have you eaten?"

Winona had never seen Zachary speak to anyone with such indulgence. This kind of unrestrained, outward emotion had never appeared on his face. Seeing the indulgent Nicholas in front of her, she only felt a sense of unfamiliarity, making even the familiar face seem exceptionally strange. "Is he your... little brother? Aren't you the youngest son of the Ramsey family?"

Timothy smiled slightly at her. "Hello, Miss Sullivan. I'm Timothy. Nicholas and I grew up as neighbors. My parents are no longer around, so when Nicholas returned to Dreamopolis, he brought me back with him."

Winona looked at him and nodded slightly. Although she was still unwilling to give up and wanted to see Nicholas's leg, it wasn't convenient to ask with someone else present. "Mr. Ramsey, I'll be leaving now."

Timothy said, "Miss Sullivan, let me see you out."

Before Winona could refuse, Nicholas spoke up, "I've had my assistant order your favorite dessert. Have some before you go."

The assistant happened to bring in coffee, and Nicholas instructed, "See Ms. Sullivan downstairs."

Since everything was already arranged, Timothy didn't insist. A glint of light flashed in his eyes. "Thanks."

Winona actually wanted to get some information about Nicholas's past from Timothy, but it seemed Nicholas didn't want them to be alone together, which left her a bit disappointed.

The office door closed.

Timothy looked at Nicholas, who had sat back down and was flipping through documents, and said somewhat unhappily, "Do you care about her?"

Nicholas said, "No."

Timothy said, "You're lying. You didn't let me see her out because you're afraid I'd do something to her, right?"

Nicholas looked up. "If I let you see her out, what would you do?"

His tone was somewhat bewildered, like a parent looking at their mischievous child, just curious, without any hint of blame.

Timothy's eyes lit up, and he asked eagerly, "How about I push her down the stairs? Leon said the security cameras in the emergency exit are broken, so no one will know it was me."

Nicholas's gaze returned to the documents. "They've been fixed. Timothy, she's just a woman, and a pregnant one at that..."

"So what? She's the Bailey family's daughter-in-law, and she's carrying the Bailey family's child," Timothy said, his emotions a bit agitated, "Have you forgotten what the Bailey family did to you? Dad and I went through so much to rescue you. You can't let your guard down."

He gripped Nicholas's shoulder, speaking persuasively. "The Bailey family is a pack of wolves in sheep's clothing, very hypocritical. Don't be fooled by them. Winona might be a trap they've set for you."

Nicholas's eyes turned very cold. "I haven't forgotten, and I'm not interested in Winona. I just want to use her to test the Bailey family. She's working at the Bailey Group now and is quite naive, which makes her easy to manipulate. Until the Bailey Group falls, don't touch her. By the way, when can Dad come back from abroad?"
