Chapter 640 Do You Have a Problem?

Rebecca hurriedly grabbed Anthony's arm and pulled him forward. "Come on, let's go."

Anthony scanned the crowd, but he didn't see any familiar faces. "Who'd you see?"

"Maeve's deadbeat gambler dad."

The term was so jarring that it took Anthony a moment to realize who she was talking about. He couldn't help but laugh. "What do you mean 'deadbeat'? Zachary and she don't have that kind of relationship."

Rebecca rolled her eyes. "That's only because Zachary didn't reciprocate. I bet you, if that woman didn't have feelings for Zachary, I'll treat you to a hundred escape room games."

No matter how well someone hides it, their eyes never lie.

Anthony fell silent.

"You don't know Maeve's dad..." Seeing Anthony's disapproving frown, Rebecca impatiently corrected herself. "Fine, Maeve. Her dad is a heartless gambler who treats her like an ATM. If she doesn't give him money, he beats and curses her. But look over there."

She realized Anthony didn't know what Maeve's dad looked like, so she pointed ahead. "That guy over there, holding a little girl's hand with his left hand and carrying a bunch of kids' stuff with his right. Look at his face, full of affection. They must be father and daughter."

Rebecca was so sure because her dad looked at her the same way every time he saw her.

"Do you believe he would curse and beat his own daughter just because of gambling?"

As she spoke, she snapped a photo and sent it to Winona, her fingers flying over the keyboard: "Winona, I just saw Maeve's gambler dad at the mall with a kid. They looked so sweet together. Compared to how he treats Maeve, I'm starting to think Maeve isn't his biological daughter."

Winona was in the car with Zachary, heading back to Regal Oaks: "Where?"

Rebecca sent her a location pin: "But it looks like they're about to leave. You won't make it in time if you come now. I'll follow them and update you if anything happens."

"Don't," Winona quickly stopped her. The man had a rough, intimidating look, and she was worried Rebecca might get into trouble if she followed him. "I'll have someone check it out later."

"I'm with Anthony. We didn't have any plans for our date anyway."

Winona replied, "I feel a bit sorry for Mr. Lewis."

"I've opened a new world for him. He should thank me. Otherwise, with his boring, routine life, how could he experience such an exciting date?"

Zachary noticed Winona smiling at her phone and felt a pang of jealousy. "Isn't Anthony with her? How does she have time to text you?"

Luckily, Rebecca wasn't a guy. Otherwise, he might not be the one with Winona right now. He never thought he'd be jealous of a woman.

Winona found his comment odd and replied without looking up, "Aren't I with you? And I still have time to text."

"Are you hinting that I should keep you too busy to text?"

He expected Winona to get mad and tell him to shut up. But instead, she seemed to seriously consider it.

Zachary, one hand on the steering wheel, reached over with the other to hold her hand resting on her knee. "How about..."

He was about to suggest they skip going home and instead enjoy a hot spring and stay the night.

But before he could finish, Winona interrupted, "Zachary, do you have a health problem?"

They shared a bed every night, but he acted like a monk, only ever giving her a kiss. She was sure he wasn't seeing anyone else, so she figured it must be a health issue.

"What did you say?" Zachary was so shocked by her question that he forgot to slow down. He had to slam on the brakes to stop at the red light.

He turned to her, eyes narrowed dangerously.

Seeing his reaction, Winona quickly tried to calm him down. "I was just asking. Don't get upset."

She had just blurted it out without thinking.

Zachary let out a cold laugh but didn't press her for an answer.

When the light turned green, Zachary made a left turn. Winona noticed this wasn't the way to Regal Oaks. "Where are you going?"

"To a hotel. There's one just ahead."

Sure enough, they soon pulled up to a modest business hotel. Normally, Zachary wouldn't consider such a place, but right now, he didn't care about the environment. He just wanted to prove he had no issues in that department.

The question of his performance had become a sore spot for him.

"Get out." Zachary unbuckled his seatbelt and was about to open the door when his phone rang.

He frowned slightly, looking at the caller ID, and reluctantly answered in front of Winona. "What is it?"

It was Maeve.

Her voice was shaky and incoherent. "Mr. Bailey, he knows. He's threatening me."

Zachary had no sympathy for any woman other than Winona and his mother. Maeve's panicked voice only annoyed him.

He held the phone away for a moment, waiting for her to calm down. "What happened?"

Winona couldn't hear Maeve's side of the conversation, but she saw Zachary's expression darken. After a few more questions, he hung up and didn't mention the hotel again.

Seeing his troubled look, Winona asked, "What's wrong?"

"Maeve's in some trouble."

Maeve had been in a car accident. It wasn't serious, but it seemed like someone was trying to scare her. The car had driven straight at her, then sped off after she fell.

Zachary buckled his seatbelt and started the car. "Let's go check on her."

He had planned to drop Winona off first, but he changed his mind.

They drove to the scene of the accident. Maeve was sitting outside a shop, covered in dust, with one pant leg rolled up to reveal a badly scraped knee. She looked pitiful, sitting there all alone.

As they approached, Winona received a message from Rebecca.
