Chapter 243 Should Have a Child

Zachary looked at the money Winona held between her fingers, his brows furrowed. "Winona, do you think I'm a delivery boy?"

Winona remained silent for a few seconds before speaking, "No, delivering something this far isn't worth just this price. This isn't a tip; it's genuine gratitude for making this trip. I want to treat you to a meal."

She spoke earnestly, each word carrying genuine emotions. Still, Zachary would rather she casually scolded him because every time she responded to him so seriously, it meant she was going to reject him.

Zachary was about to interrupt her, but Winona said, "However, I believe that it is best to maintain a distance between ex-spouses who do not have a child. Continued entanglement and involvement would be unfair to you, to me, and to our prospective partners in the future."

Winona continued, "In this marriage, you've already let me down, so let's not repeat the same mistake in the next one. Although I don't know why, after ignoring me for three years, you suddenly seem to care deeply about me as if you can't live without me. But since you could ignore a woman for three years, you probably didn't love her much. You just couldn't bear being abandoned by me. It was Fiona before; now it's me. Don't always cherish the person who doesn't value you; cherish the one who cherishesyou."

Although she didn't know if Zachary had another woman by his side now, a man like him probably never lacked pursuers.

Zachary looked at her with a cold face, both emotionally and physically tense to the extreme, on the verge of collapse at any moment. "Are you reminding me that we should have a child?"

Winona was utterly bewildered by his statement.

So all the words she said were just nonsense to him.

She opened the door and took two steps forward to snatch back the bag twisted in his hand. If it weren't for the documents inside, she wouldn't bother wasting time with him here.

When she called Zachary, she had anticipated such a result, so when she heard his voice, she wasn't surprised at all.

Whether it was because her move was too sudden, catching Zachary off guard, or he simply didn't exert force, Winona easily took the bag back. However, as she turned to enter the house, the man grabbed her arm.

The man's grip was tight, but it didn't cause Winona any pain; she only felt a strong sense of oppression. His lips pursed into a straight line, the up and down movement of his Adam's apple clearly revealing his intense emotional fluctuations at the moment. "I'm sorry."

Perhaps it was the first time he had apologized so solemnly and sincerely to someone; both his emotions and expression seemed unusually awkward, like a puppy at a loss, unable to figure out what to do after making a mistake.

Winona's attitude was not as tough as before. "It's over; we should look forward."

"Not out of unwillingness, nor because of Fiona." he held onto her as if grasping onto something important that was about to be lost, unwilling to let go but only able to watch her slip away bit by bit until he couldn't hold on anymore. This made his demeanor appear somewhat anxious and urgent, wanting to prove in some way that this woman still belonged to him, but it was suppressed. "Winona, it has always been you."

This statement held no credibility for Winona. She didn't want to mock him but couldn't help it. "So, we've been married for three years without any intimacy?"

Apart from impotence and disgust, Winona couldn't think of any reason that would make a man not have sex with his wife for three years.

Simply not loving her wouldn't make sense either, as most men are creatures of desire. Even when a man and a woman are alone in bed wearing thin nightwear, he should still be able to react.

The lack of sexual ability made even less sense. A man's physical response is the most straightforward. Winona couldn't remember how many times she had felt it.

Whether Zachary sensed Winona's intention to leave or for some other reason, his grip on her arm suddenly tightened. "I..."

The words got stuck in his throat, perhaps because there was nothing to say, or maybe for some other reason. However, whatever the reason, it didn't matter to Winona.

The problems in this marriage were not just due to this one reason. Perhaps her and Zachary's personalities were never compatible, and even if they stayed together, there wouldn't be a good outcome. Since they didn't plan to be together anymore, there was no need to waste time discussing such meaningless matters.

Winona was a pragmatic individual. Therefore, it was prudent to withdraw promptly when a situation became untenable, rather than sinking deeper into the quagmire of a marriage, which would ultimately render them miserable.

Winona freed her hand from his grip and went inside.

She didn't know when Zachary left, but the next day when she opened the door, there were over a dozen cigarette butts thrown into the sand pot outside the door.

After eating out and topping up her phone card, Winona drove to the villa halfway up the mountain.

The activities at the villa were strictly scheduled, and she didn't want to stay there at night, so she specifically requested a few days off from the museum.

There was not a single car or person on the road to the villa even during the day, so it seemed a bit eerie due to the lush vegetation.

Winona pressed the doorbell and soon heard footsteps coming from inside.

The villa's maid, Emerson Tate, came to open the door. Winona had been here several times and had never seen her smile. She just stared expressionlessly at people, gloomy, blending in perfectly with the atmosphere of the villa.

"Emerson," Winona said.

Emerson nodded. "Before the master left, he instructed that you can freely enter and exit the study but do not disturb anything inside; the master doesn't like it."

Winona wanted to avoid entering that study.

Every time she saw that man, he was mysterious, as if afraid of revealing even a bit of flesh, wishing to wrap himself in cloth entirely. The study was such a private place that she didn't know what unspeakable things were kept there. If she saw something she shouldn't, what if he silenced her to keep it a secret?

"Can I choose another place? Repairing things requires a well-lit area to avoid color discrepancies."

She also wanted to know if she could get some information out of Emerson.

She sensed impatience on Emerson's expressionless face.

"Whatever, but..."

Upstairs, there was suddenly a loud thud on the wooden floor, causing Emerson's expression to change. Ignoring Winona, he hurriedly went upstairs.
