Chapter 447 Die a Miserable Death
What kind of crazy question was that?
The assistant was so shocked he almost jumped out of his seat. He'd been staring at the guy, but only because he thought the guy's vibe was kinda refreshing, nothing more.
But that wasn't the main issue. Why was Mr. Ramsey asking him this?
He called out, "Mr. Ramsey..."
Seeing his hesitant look, Nicholas knew he was overthinking and rolled his eyes, annoyed. "I'm asking you, if you were a woman, would you prefer a guy like him or a guy like me?"
Why did all his assistants act like Dylan, always clueless and daydreaming?
Meanwhile, Dylan, busy prepping for the bid at the Bailey Group, sneezed loudly, catching everyone's attention in the office.
Dylan used to be super serious when he worked with Zachary. He wouldn't even sneeze, let alone fart.
Back here, the assistant, relieved after hearing the follow-up question, tried to read Nicholas's mind and replied, "Of course, I'd choose someone like you. That guy looks like a player, treating everyone well. Being his girlfriend would feel very insecure."
Honestly, he wanted to choose both. It was hard to pick, and giving up on either would be heartbreaking. Adults wanted it all.
But he feared that if he said that, he'd be begging for food at the subway station tomorrow.
Nicholas instinctively wanted to call Winona but suddenly remembered something. He picked up his phone and then put it down, his gloomy face softening a bit. He said to the assistant, "I'll give you a raise tomorrow. Next time I ask you, remember to say the same thing."
The assistant glanced at his changing expression in the rearview mirror. He asked, "Mr. Ramsey, do you have someone you like? Is she your first love?"
He didn't even ask such childish questions when he was dating in school, let alone asking others.
The assistant continued, "You should ask the girl about this. Maybe she feels the same way about you. If you ask, it might just work out."
Nicholas closed his eyes and said, "Shut up, and drive."
The car hadn't gone far when Timothy called, "Where are you? I went to the office to find you, but the receptionist said you left."
Nicholas glanced outside and saw a road sign, so he reported the address.
Timothy said, "That's close to Dr. Wilson's place. Dr. Wilson said you haven't been there in a while. Since we're nearby, how about I go with you for a check-up? You're almost out of your medication."
Timothy's voice grew somber as he asked, "You don't want to?"
Timothy was naturally suspicious. The last time Nicholas didn't take his medication, it had already made him suspicious. If Nicholas refused again this time, it would cause a lot of trouble. Thinking of this, Nicholas replied, "No, I just don't want you to make a special trip. I was already on my way to Dr. Wilson's clinic. The Ramsey Group is quite far from here; it's too tiring."
"Not tiring." Timothy's tone brightened upon hearing that Nicholas was on his way to the clinic. "Anything for you, bro, no matter how troublesome."
Nicholas responded, "Okay."
After hanging up, he looked up and met the assistant's gaze in the rearview mirror.
The assistant remained silent, thinking, 'Damn. I was just checking for cars behind us. I didn't expect it to be so coincidental. Mr. Ramsey's gaze looks like it could kill.'He said, "Mr. Ramsey, I'm totally loyal to you. If I spill even a bit of your business, may I die a horrible death?"
As a worker, he was good at reading people. He didn't know what was going on between Nicholas and Timothy, but Timothy's occasional attitude suggested he was pretty wary of Nicholas. But he also seemed to have some weird feelings for him.
The assistant thought, 'Forget it. Such complex matters are beyond the understanding of ordinary folks like us.'
But he knew that as Nicholas's special assistant, he had to take a stand. So, he stood with Nicholas.
Nicholas glanced at him and then closed his eyes.
After his appointment at the psychiatric clinic, Nicholas came out just as Timothy arrived. He glanced at Dr. Wilson, who was organizing some test papers, and asked, "All done?"
"Yeah." Nicholas pressed his forehead, looking pale and exhausted. He seemed really tired and weak, even speaking with no energy.
Timothy said, "You go to the waiting area first. I'll ask Dr. Wilson for some meds. I've been having trouble sleeping and keep having nightmares."
Nicholas nodded and was helped to the waiting room by a nurse.
Timothy watched him enter the waiting room before heading to Dr. Wilson's office. "How are the test results?" Timothy asked.
Dr. Wilson replied, "No issues. He remembers what we told him."
Timothy frowned and asked, "Are you sure there won't be any mistakes?"
Dr. Wilson confirmed, "No, there won't be. Before Mr. Ramsey, I had already experimented on several people, all successfully. However, without ongoing intervention, the duration of the implanted memories varied. Every time Mr. Ramsey comes, I reinforce that memory in his mind. Based on the latest results, there are no issues."
Timothy responded, "It better be as you say."
Though confident, Timothy was suspicious. Although his father's words a few days ago seemed to have gone unheard, they had planted seeds of doubt in his mind.
The process of turning Zachary into Nicholas wasn't smooth, and there was a huge flaw in it.
So even with Dr. Wilson's assurance, Timothy wasn't entirely at ease and planned to test him.
Two days later, it was time for the bid with the Ramsey Group. Other companies were participating, but they were just there for show and posed no competition to the Bailey Group.
This project was crucial for the Bailey Group, so Evander came in person today.
Knowing Nicholas would be coming, Winona hesitated several times but couldn't find an opportunity to speak. He was always discussing the bidding details with others.
When they arrived at the other company's conference room, the Ramsey Group's staff was already there. Nicholas wasn't present; only his assistant and a group of people wearing Ramsey Group badges were waiting.
Evander frowned and asked, "Nicholas didn't come today?"
He had heard the rumors but didn't take them seriously. Winona had interacted with Nicholas before. If Nicholas were really Zachary, she would have told Evander. Since there had been no news, it was likely not true.
The Ramsey Group employees suddenly stood up and called out towards the conference room door, "Mr. Ramsey."
Evander turned his head to follow their gaze.
Winona's heart tightened as she fixed her eyes on Evander, fearing he might faint from the excitement of seeing Nicholas's face. She had her phone unlocked, ready to call emergency services if needed.
