Chapter 44 Mr. Bailey is Married?
In the living room, Fiona's eyes widened in shock when she saw the woman who entered with Zachary.
She had considered the possibility of Winona coming tonight, especially since it was Lydia's birthday, but she couldn't believe that Zachary would publicly reveal Winona's identity as Mrs. Bailey and allow her to appear.
Not only had Winona arrived, but Zachary had brought her in and was holding her hand, openly displaying their intimate relationship.
Many people's gazes were now shifting between the two women. Before Winona's arrival, they had only heard the recent rumors and assumed Fiona was preparing to marry Mr. Bailey. Seeing her here today, they were already making plans for their upcoming union.
But now, standing by Mr. Bailey's side was another woman.
Fiona felt the piercing gazes around her, her face burning. These people had just been flattering her, implying that she was the future Mrs. Bailey.
Someone approached Zachary with a drink, glancing at the person beside him curiously, and asked, "Mr. Bailey, who is this?"
Zachary didn't say a word, but the evening's protagonist, Lydia, walked over. She held Winona's other hand and solemnly introduced her to the guests, saying, "Let me introduce you all to my daughter-in-law, Winona Sullivan."
The entire room was shocked!
"Mr. Bailey is married?"
"When did this happen? I've never heard of it before..."
The attendees began discussing, while Fiona alone turned red with regret for allowing herself to be brought here tonight.
Lydia smiled and added, "Young people prefer to keep things low-key, avoiding unnecessary attention. That's why we had a small family wedding before. Today, on this auspicious day, we wanted everyone to witness it."
With these words, everyone understood the purpose of tonight's birthday banquet and their surprise turned into smiles.
"Mrs. Bailey looks like a goddess."
"Those models can't compare to her..."
No matter how much praise there was, Winona couldn't take it in. Although she had prepared herself for the exposure of their relationship, she never expected it to be done in such a high-profile manner. She had initially thought that their marriage would be kept hidden, and even if they were to divorce, it wouldn't affect their lives. But now, it seems...
Winona turned her head and lowered her voice to question Zachary, "Why didn't you stop her?"
"Stop her from what?" Zachary asked.
"Of course, stop her from revealing our relationship," Winona replied irritably.
Zachary glanced at her and sneered, "Do you think everyone is as foolish as you? Do you really believe I would bring unimportant people to such an occasion?"
Well, Winona had to admit that he made a valid point. In the end, she couldn't accept it and retorted, "I had originally planned to quietly divorce and go our separate ways. But since it has come to this, I guess everyone will witness the moment Mr. Bailey gets dumped."
The man coldly laughed, "Where do you get the confidence to think you can leave me?"
As the two continued their argument, Lydia had already gone to another area to meet with guests. The conversation among the attendees shifted from praising Winona to discussing her attire.
"Mr. Bailey got married, but those hot searches from before didn't reveal anything. Who would have thought that the renowned dancer, known both domestically and internationally, would want to be a mistress? Look at her dress today, it's clearly provoking Mrs. Bailey, isn't it?"
Upon hearing this, Winona finally noticed that Fiona was wearing a dress similar to hers today. Both were made of black satin-like material with similar designs, the only difference being that Fiona's had a V-neck and exposed back, while Winona's was strapless.
Although the two dresses were somewhat alike, they were not completely identical, but the subtle differences couldn't prevent others from making comparisons.
In terms of visual impact, even Fiona had to admit that the dress suited Winona more. Winona, who was already naturally beautiful with fair skin, seemed to radiate light in the black satin dress.
Winona raised an eyebrow and sneered, speaking so quietly that only Zachary by her side could hear, "What's going on?"
"She's wearing the same dress as you," Zachary responded calmly.
Fiona walked over, brushing off the whispers from the crowd. She held a beautifully wrapped rectangular box in her hand, and Winona guessed it might contain the antique painting she had restored.
"Zachary, Winona," Fiona said.
Zachary acknowledged with a soft sound, his expression and tone indifferent, as if the other person were just an insignificant stranger.
Winona glanced at him and couldn't help but snort disdainfully in her mind, "The bastard really knows how to pretend. It's a pity he doesn't pursue an acting career!"
Winona had no interest in watching this couple with their lovey-dovey gestures. Just as she was about to pull her hand out of Zachary's arm, Fiona turned her focus towards her and said, "Winona, do you have another dress to wear here? Can you go change into something else..."
Fiona said hesitantly, but the meaning was clear to everyone. "I know this request may seem forward, but it's really embarrassing to wear the same outfit."
Winona smiled back at her, fake as can be. "No."
Winona's refusal was direct and simple; without any other reason, she didn't have any other dress.
Fiona frowned, "Winona, you don't have to be so hostile towards me. After all, we used to be..."
"Miss Clark, you're overthinking. I don't have any hostility towards you. As for wearing the same outfit," she glanced at Fiona's deep V-neck, her tone meaningful, "Is your eyesight not very good?"
Seeing Winona's unwillingness to back down, Fiona could only shift her gaze to Zachary. She bit her reddened lips. "Zachary..."
Zachary frowned. Winona's words were too harsh earlier, and he didn't like her speaking in that tone.
Before he could say anything, Winona leaned close to his ear, speaking in a low voice that only they could hear, her teeth clenched, "If you dare ask me to change, I'm leaving right now."
What was wrong with threatening him? She wasn't going to act in this scene anymore. Let him handle the situation himself!
With her already high heels and unsteady posture, Winona's body swayed slightly. In the next second, Zachary reached out to hold her waist and pulled her into his embrace. Right after, the man's voice sounded sternly, "Stand properly, no acting cute."
He spoke in a tone as if he was reprimanding his subordinates.
Winona thought to herself, "which ear did he hear her acting cute with?"
"Let's end this boring topic. Mom is calling you." Zachary said flatly.
Winona turned her head and indeed saw Lydia waving her over, signaling for her to come.
The two of them walked towards Lydia, with Fiona following behind. "Let's go together. I just arrived too, and I haven't had a chance to give Aunt her gift."
Lydia held her husband Evander's hand intimately and warmly said to Winona as they approached, "Winona, let me introduce you to some uncles and aunties. They're all good friends of mine and wanted to meet you, knowing that you're Zachary's wife."
Winona smiled gently. She called Lydia "Mom" and then handed over the birthday gift she prepared. "Mom, happy birthday."
Lydia happily received the gift. "A daughter-in-law like you is the biggest gift!" She couldn't help but give her son, who lacked foresight, a disapproving look. "Such a good wife, you should love her even more in the future, or you'll regret it someday."
Zachary raised an eyebrow, and he glanced at Winona out of the corner of his eye. She still had a smile on her face, and her eyes revealed a warmth he had never noticed before.
