Chapter 500 Don't Get Excited

The guy who opened the door wasn't Winona; it was Matthew. He had a bag in his hand and looked like he was about to head out. When he saw Zachary standing there, ready to knock, he paused and asked, "Why are you here again?"

He had that "man of the house" vibe going on.

Zachary's already sour mood darkened even more. "Where's Winona?" he demanded.

Without waiting for an answer, Zachary brushed past Matthew and walked into the apartment. Matthew didn't try to stop him; he just left with his stuff, closing the door behind him.

The place was tiny, so it didn't take long for Zachary to realize Winona wasn't there. That took a bit of the edge off his frustration. He figured Matthew was trying to stir up trouble between him and Winona, probably to get some kind of advantage.

When Zachary got back to the door, Matthew was already gone, and the door was shut.

Zachary tried calling Winona, but he got the "unable to connect" message. Then he remembered she had blocked him. They hadn't talked much on the phone, so it slipped his mind.

It bugged him that he was still on her blacklist, but Matthew had the password to her place and could come and go as he pleased. This clear difference in treatment made Zachary even more furious, overshadowing the fact that he had finally slept with Winona.

He chased Matthew all the way to the parking lot, catching up just as Matthew was loading stuff into the back seat. The car door was still open when Matthew turned and saw Zachary coming.

Zachary's eyes darted to the open bag and immediately noticed the women's clothes inside.

He frowned. "Where are you taking Winona's clothes?"

Matthew replied, "I'm going on a business trip. Before the new project kicks off, I need to do some on-site inspections for about ten days." He closed the car door and reached for the driver's door handle. Just as he was about to pull it, Zachary grabbed his hand. "She's still..."

He stopped mid-sentence.

Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Pregnant with what? A pillow? Didn't she give it to you that day? Have you sorted out the child support, or do you need me, the stepdad, to chip in?"

Zachary ignored Matthew's jab, gritting his teeth. "Where's Winona?"

Matthew said, "She went to the airport first. I was passing by and came to grab some things she needed for the trip."

Zachary didn't buy it. Knowing Winona, she wouldn't ask just any guy friend to help her pack, even if she was in a rush. "Can I borrow your phone to make a quick call? Mine's dead," Zachary said.

"Calling Winona?" Matthew took out his phone, unlocked it, and opened the call screen. "I'll dial for you and put it on speaker. Since Mr. Ramsey and I are now adversaries, it's better not to lend out such private items easily."

A few seconds later, the phone started ringing, and at the same time, Zachary's phone rang.

Matthew turned the phone screen towards Zachary, showing the name 'Nicholas,' and raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Ramsey, your phone is ringing."

Matthew hung up the call in front of Zachary, and the ringing stopped. He got into the car.

As the car moved a short distance, Matthew rolled down the window and said, "Your father had a hypertensive episode and is now at the city hospital. We didn't tell your mother, so Winona is at the hospital handling the paperwork."During dinner, Evander suddenly felt dizzy, and they rushed him to the hospital. Luckily, they got him there in time, so it wasn't a big deal, and he could go home after a night of observation.

The scene was pretty chaotic, and someone accidentally spilled soup on Winona's clothes. It was cold out, and her wet clothes were sticking to her, which was super uncomfortable. Since the hospital needed a family member to sign papers, she couldn't leave, so Matthew came to get her some clothes.

After explaining, Matthew drove off.

Hearing that Evander was in the hospital made Zachary's heart sink, and he quickly headed to his car.

At the city hospital, Zachary didn't bother with the underground parking lot and just parked on the street.

He found a pack of cigarettes, took one out, and put it between his lips.

It was a cloudy night, no stars or moon in sight. Zachary held his phone tightly, his expression hidden in the rising smoke.

In the hospital room, Matthew handed Winona the clothes, saying, "I'll stay here. You go change."

Winona remembered the soup incident at the restaurant. She had been so busy and with the hospital's heating, she had forgotten about it.

She looked down at the wet spot and replied, "It's dry now. No need to change."

Matthew insisted, "Even if it's dry, it's still greasy. Since I brought it, go change. I'll watch over him."

Zachary had just reached the door and overheard their conversation. It was plain, without any intimacy, but it had a sense of closeness, like a couple who had been together for years.

Thinking about how Matthew could freely enter Winona's house, Zachary felt a surge of irritation, a mix of jealousy and envy.

He didn't go in directly, fearing it might upset Evander.

After thanking Matthew, Winona took the clothes to the restroom to change. As she reached the door, she sensed Zachary's presence and turned to look at him.

Their eyes met.

Winona was surprised, not expecting Zachary to arrive so quickly.

Evander's episode was sudden but not serious. After some basic checks, he was sent to the ward, all within three hours.

Given the close relationships of those present, it was normal for Zachary to get the news quickly.

Winona quickly realized why Zachary didn't come in. Given his current situation, it wasn't appropriate for him to stand outside for too long. She decided to talk to Evander first. Just as she turned around, Matthew chimed in, "I saw Zachary when I went to get Winona's clothes."

Evander's dizziness was a result of recent high-intensity work and late nights—nothing serious, just exhaustion. He asked, "How is he?"

Matthew said, "He's outside now. Don't get excited. I'll call him in."

Evander responded, "Okay."

Zachary, who had heard everything, remained silent.

He now had to rely on Matthew to contact his wife and needed him to remind his father. It was really...

Zachary walked in, and as he passed Winona, he whispered, "Take me off the blacklist."

Winona was stunned.

It wasn't until Zachary reached the bedside that she remembered she had blocked Zachary's number. Given his current identity as Nicholas, they rarely communicated by phone. If Zachary hadn't mentioned it today, Winona would have completely forgotten.
