Chapter 307 The Wedding Is at the End of the Year
These words were both a warning and a veiled threat.
After Eva finished speaking, she pretended to slap her own mouth. "Look at me, always saying bad things. You have already divorced Zachary, so the one we're interested in must not be the same person, right?"
Hearing Zachary's name so intimately spoken by another woman, Winona was momentarily stunned and didn't immediately respond.
Eva's eyes were innocent, like a lovestruck teenage girl. "Speaking of which, Zachary and I are quite fated. I just found out that he attended our school for further studies four years ago and was quite the campus star. Unfortunately, I was on medical leave that year and stayed at home. If I had known we would meet today, I would have pursued him back then and not wasted four years."
Winona said, "He had a girlfriend back then. If you had pursued him, the time wouldn't have been wasted, but you wouldn't be able to shake off the label of 'homewrecker.'"
Eva's hand hanging by her side stiffened.
'Pfft, what a display of emotional intelligence?' Eva thought to herself.
If Winona were a Turner, she would have been berated by those ruthless people in no time.
She forced a stiff smile and squeezed out a sentence. "Actually, meeting now is the best. Although you missed four years, you're aiming for marriage. Our families are already discussing the wedding, which should be set for the end of the year."
As she spoke, Eva took an invitation from her bag. "In a few days, our family is hosting a banquet in Dreamopolis, inviting all the elites from various social circles in Dreamopolis."
She winked at Winona. "Aren't you a fan of my Brother Five? Come then, and there will be a surprise for you."
Eva had a cousin who was a popular idol recently. Winona had previously used the excuse of being a fan to learn more about her idol's life and family, asking a lot about the Turner family.
Winona asked, "Hosting a banquet in Dreamopolis?"
Such a banquet was not something just anyone could host; it depended on one's background. Otherwise, even if the invitations were sent out, people wouldn't attend.
No matter how powerful the Turner Family was, they were based in A City, and their roots in Dreamopolis were shallow, though that might just be on the surface.
"Yes, I'm marrying into Dreamopolis, so my dad wants me to network more to better help Zachary in the future."
Eva kept mentioning Zachary, giving Winona a headache. She put away the invitation. "So most of the Turner family will be there?"
"Pretty much. You should work hard to turn your idol into your husband and become my sister-in-law. My cousin's parents are easy to get along with and open-minded. Marrying him would definitely be a good thing."
A colleague approached and said, "Winona, Caleb is looking for you in the exhibition hall."
Winona finally had a chance to escape from Eva. She thanked her colleague and hurried to the exhibition hall.
The museum was closed to the public today, and the large exhibition hall was empty. Caleb stood with his hands clasped behind his back, staring at an early Qing dynasty porcelain vase.
"Director, I'm sorry about the antique hairpin. I'll try to persuade..."
"You don't need to get involved in that matter," Caleb interrupted her, "Do you have a grudge against Michelle?"
Winona was taken aback. She hadn't expected Caleb to see through Eva's malicious intentions when everyone else viewed her with suspicion. But then again, if she could see through those tactics, how could they escape the notice of a seasoned veteran like Caleb?
Her eyes welled up. Since her grandfather's death, she had no one to confide in. Even when wronged, she could only silently digest it herself.
At that moment, facing Caleb's all-seeing gaze, Winona felt an urge to spill everything. But in the end, reason prevailed over impulse, and she vaguely said, "I'm not sure."
She and Caleb were just superior and subordinate, not suitable for discussing personal matters. Besides, her mother's situation was complicated, and the real culprit hadn't been found yet, so she couldn't let any information slip.
Seeing she wouldn't speak, Caleb didn't press further. "The police have results on the hairpin. The deleted surveillance footage was recovered. Aleah stole the key from the storage manager and threw the hairpin out of the bathroom window, deliberately making it look like that. According to her confession, she was unhappy that you overshadowed everyone as soon as you arrived and wanted to teach you a lesson."
Aleah White was a middle-aged woman in her forties. Winona wasn't familiar with her as they weren't in the same team.
She didn't believe a word of this explanation.
Caleb said "Alright, go home and rest. Come to work on time tomorrow. There's a lot of artifacts in the warehouse waiting to be restored. Why are there so few people in this field? Young people today have no sense of dedication, always wanting to be influencers or celebrities. Those careers can't compare to restoring artifacts. Seeing a damaged piece restored in your hands is so fulfilling."
Winona remained silent.
In the detention center, Aleah sat on a wooden bench, looking haggard and pale, her hair disheveled, and dark circles under her eyes, as if she had agedten years overnight.
Opposite her was a lawyer in a suit, looking energetic.
Aleah clutched her hands, looking nervous and terrified. "Lawyer, how many years will I be sentenced?"
"Intentional damage to cultural relics carries a sentence of up to three years in prison, or more than three years but less than ten years if the circumstances are severe."
"What about my son's study abroad plans..."
The lawyer interrupted her, hinting, "It won't be affected. He can stay abroad for a few years. Returning as an overseas graduate is quite popular now. He can become a high-level executive in a listed company with an annual salary of millions."
Aleah's face immediately relaxed into a smile. "Good, when can we go to trial? I plead guilty."
On the other side, as soon as Eva got into the car, her face turned cold.
She used a wet wipe to meticulously clean the arm she had linked with Winona's, then dialed Kyle's number with a displeased expression. "Dad, didn't you say you brought me here to arrange a marriage with Zachary? When are you going to talk to the Bailey family? It's been so long, and there's still no progress."
Kyle sighed. "Do you think this is A City? Where you can just say who you like and it's done? This is Dreamopolis, where Zachary holds all the power. Even your second uncle has to tread carefully here. The Bailey family is now under Zachary's control. His marriage is up to him alone. You can't just go to his parents or even his grandfather. You need to spend more time around him and get closer to his mother. Don't rush the contract. With your beauty, it's only a matter of time before you win him over."
Eva was flattered and felt more confident. She instructed the driver, "To the Bailey Group."
