Chapter 85 She's about to betray him

"It was all because of her that Thomas embarrassed you. If Mr. Bailey leaves, this investment won't happen today, and your dance you just had to perform now would have been a waste!"

Emily thought that even if these words couldn't make Zachary do something to Winona, at the very least, they would make him feel more sympathetic towards Fiona. However, she didn't receive any response.

Frowning, she glanced over and saw that Zachary seemed distracted, completely unaware of what she was saying.

After Thomas finished the call, he cautiously spoke, "Mr. Bailey, the contract will be finalized shortly. Would you care to have a drink while we wait?"

"No need. Get the contract done and give it to Emily directly. I have something to attend to and will leave now."

If it weren't for Mr. Bailey never leaving his sight, Thomas would have suspected that someone else had pushed him to finalize the contract in such a rush.

Seeing Zachary about to leave, Fiona stood up as well. "We probably won't have to wait long. Let's go with Emily and give her a ride home."

Emily's home was on the way to Regal Oaks, but Fiona lived in the opposite direction. With one being in the north and the other in the south.

Zachary, seemingly not understanding the implication in Fiona's words, replied, "Emily can drive you home later."

Fiona didn't expect this response. She thought that even if Zachary didn't want to waste time waiting for Emily, he would still offer to take her home. "And what about you?"

Zachary glanced at his wristwatch, one of his signs of impatience. "I came here in Samuel's car."

Although the car belonged to Samuel, it didn't mean he couldn't use it. It all depended on whether he wanted to or not.

Before Fiona had a chance to figure out how to convince Zachary to give her a ride home, he had already left the private room.

Samuel's car was parked near the elevator exit. Seeing Zachary coming alone, he raised an eyebrow. "I thought you came here to pick up your wife? Why are you the only one coming down? Were you kicked out?"

Zachary glanced at him expressionlessly, opened the car door, and got in. "Who told you I came here to pick her up?"

"Did you come here to cause trouble? Why are you so angry?" Samuel glanced at him through the rearview mirror. "Who called and said Winona was invited here by Thomas, so you rushed here straight from the airport?"

Zachary furrowed his brows, his face leaving no doubt as to the mood he was currently in.

Samuel clicked his tongue. "Look at you, so worthless. If you really like her, keep her by your side."

"She's still carrying the title of Mrs. Bailey, and Thomas is known for being sleazy in the industry. I'm not crazy; I don't enjoy watching my wife cheat on me.

Zachary impatiently ended the conversation, saying, "Just shut up, drive and watch the road."

Thomas's reputation as "sleazy" was somewhat undeserved; at most, he was just a womanizer who liked younger women, but it was always consensual.

After she left the night club, Winona took a taxi back to her apartment. As she passed Zachary's luggage while getting clothes from the closet, she paused for a moment, thought about it, and then threw his six-digit suitcase into the hallway.

The temperature took a cliff dive today. After having being outside for a while, Winona's hands and feet were somewhat numb. She filled the bathtub with water and added a few drops of sleep-inducing essential oil.

She enjoyed a nice relaxing bath, dried her hair, applied moisturizing lotion, and then put on her cozy pajamas before leaving the bathroom.

As soon as she opened the door, she heard knocking on the front door.

Besides Matthew and Zachary, who else knew she lived here? She hadn't even told Rebecca so not to worry her.

Matthew would definitely call her before coming over, and as for Zachary, he was probably too busy being infatuated with Fiona to think of coming here.

Winona approached the door with soft steps and casually grabbed the shoehorn behind it. "Who is it?"

After a few seconds of silence, the man's cold voice filled the room, saying, "Open the door."

Winona paused for an instant and replied, "Your luggage is outside. Grab it and leave."

"Open the door."

"I won't."

The man chuckled, not taking her refusal seriously. "If you want to wake up everyone on this floor..."

Before Zachary finished his sentence, the tightly locked door was forcefully pulled open from the inside. Winona, wearing her pajamas, stood behind the door and said, "Speak up."

"Take it inside." Zachary kicked the suitcase at his feet.

Winona raised her chin. "Do you really think that's possible?"

Tension filled the air as they confronted each other.

Zachary squinted his long and deep eyes, his indifferent voice laced with mockery. "Winona, do you not want a divorce at all? Is that why you're playing this game of cat and mouse with me?"

Winona stared at him with a look as if to say, "Are you mentally ill?" She clenched the shoehorn, ready to strike.

"One million dollars for one night. If you are willing to pass up such a great opportunity to make money, it leads me to believe that you don't actually want a divorce? Or do you think your meager salary can somehow gather three hundred million dollars to give back to me in your lifetime?"

It's truly admirable how he can twist black and white so convincingly.

Winona felt her lungs about to burst with anger.

"If Fiona had dumped you earlier, it would have been a wise move. I couldn't endure it for two years, let alone two days. No wonder you've become so pathetic and can't win her back..."

Before she finished speaking, her arm was grabbed by the man.

He wasn't even using all of his strength, and yet he was causing her bones to ache. Winona gasped for breath.

Zachary smirked, a smile not reaching his eyes. "Unfortunately, for you, you endured me for three years, and I will make you pay for it."

"Year after year, I had to endure."

"I endured for three years because I didn't see through your true nature and mistook the roadside grass for a red rose," Winona sneered, every word cutting into his heart like a knife.

She turned around, took out a bank card from her wallet, and roughly stuffed it into his pocket. "Here's six million dollars, consider it repaid. As for the divorce... I've come to my senses. It doesn't matter anymore whether I have that piece of paper or not. If one day I truly meet a man who makes me fall deeply in love, I will surely cheat."

Zachary stared at her with a freezing gaze. "Say it again."

Winona scoffed with disdain, "Aren't you shameless? Coming here in the middle of the night just to be scolded. It's no wonder you're having such back-and-forth arguments."

She lifted her hand to close the door, but Zachary quickly stopped her. "Don't you want to know who leaked the audio back then?"

Winona's expression anger dissipated. "You know?"

This was the second time he had brought this up.

Even though it had already passed, she had indeed suffered from endless rumors because of this. She still wanted to know who had betrayed her back then!
