Chapter 368 A Couple's Watch
Winona glanced up and saw this chick standing in front of her. She had this golden blonde hair, sun-kissed skin, and these big ol' eyes. Her evening dress totally matched her cute vibe.
The girl was giving her this curious look.
Winona nodded, "Yeah, sure."
Just as Winona was about to get back to her messages, the girl piped up, "I just saw you roll in with Mr. Watson. Are you his girlfriend?"
"Nah, I used to work for him," she pointed to the "Traverse City" sign on the stage, "I'm just here for the party."
"Oh, cool! I'm Scarlett Lewis," the girl said, all bubbly and stuff, "My dad and Mr. Watson's dad are trying to set us up, and I'm pretty into him. When I saw you with him, I thought I was getting dumped."
Winona just stayed quiet.
Scarlett's outgoing personality was something else. In no time, she spilled her whole life story, even talking about her first date and kiss. She was already dreaming about her wedding with Matthew, and how many kids they'd have.
"Miss Lewis," Winona cut in, "You shouldn't go out alone in the future."
"Why?"
"Because you're way too easy to fool."
With that little chat, Winona forgot to reply to Zachary's message. There was some noise at the door, and when she looked over, she saw Frank with Rodolfo.
She gave them a quick glance and then looked away. The Turner Family was trying to break into Dreamopolis, so hitting up these parties was a must.
Scarlett was still bugging her about what she meant. Winona absentmindedly picked at the cake in front of her, giving half-hearted responses.
Not long after, there was another ruckus at the door. This time it was louder. Winona wasn't interested and was about to bounce after finishing her cake, but then Scarlett squealed, "Mr. Bailey is here."
Winona looked up and, sure enough, saw Zachary surrounded by people. He was looking her way too. Their eyes met for a second before they both looked away.
She didn't want anyone to catch on to their relationship, and Zachary was someone she just couldn't get rid of.
Scarlett got called away by her dad. Winona pulled out her phone and saw a bunch of messages from Zachary. She had put her phone on silent earlier because it was annoying: [What are you doing at the Watson Group's party?]
[When does it end?]
[What's the address of the party?]
Each message was more annoyed than the last, and she could feel it through the screen.
On the other side.
Matthew eyed the uninvited Zachary and raised an eyebrow, muttering, "What are you doing here?"
Not many folks knew they had a falling out, so everyone still thought they were tight. Seeing them chat, people gave them some space.
Zachary's eyes landed on Matthew's wristwatch. It looked old, small, and kinda delicate, but it weirdly suited Matthew's gentle vibe.
He noticed it not because he was super observant, but because it was just too noticeable.
Matthew was holding his wine glass with the hand sporting the watch.
Zachary frowned, his face full of disdain, "Move that ugly watch out of my sight. Has your taste gone to crap? Are you getting old and blind? This thing's ancient."
Matthew didn't get mad at all. He even turned the watch over to look at it, "I think it looks pretty good."
Zachary sneered and couldn't be bothered to argue.
He pulled out his phone to text Winona, not caring that Matthew was right next to him: [When are we going back?]
But Matthew was a gentleman and didn't snoop on his messages. When Zachary took out his phone, Matthew turned away to chat with someone else.
Zachary stayed silent.
The problem with hypocrites is they always keep up this polite act, making it impossible to slip up and show them any secrets.
Winona had only said not to go around telling people about their relationship, but she hadn't said it couldn't be found out.
After sending the message, he stared in Winona's direction, but she wasn't even looking at her phone, let alone replying. She seemed to have bumped into someone she knew and was chatting away.
As the host of the party, Matthew was super busy and soon got called away. Before leaving, he asked Zachary, "Do you really think this watch is ugly?"
"Yes, it's hideous."
Matthew smiled in a way that made Zachary want to punch him and then left.
Zachary made his way towards Winona. Along the way, people kept approaching him.
After a bit, he finally reached the lounge area, only to hear Winona asking the person across from her how to better maintain a wristwatch.
Weren't these things just meant to be worn a few times and then tossed? Why would she need special maintenance?
Zachary was wondering if he hadn't given her enough jewelry, making her so careful about maintaining a wristwatch.
Then he saw Winona carefully take out an old watch from her bag, identical to the one on Matthew's wrist—a matching couple's watch.
