Chapter 229 Accepting His Pursuit.

Lydia turned her head to look at her, her face and voice cold, "Who are you talking about?"

The younger sister-in-law was startled by her appearance and stammered, "Lydia."

Lydia ignored her and called her own brother, not caring about saving face. In front of all the Lydia's family relatives, she said, "Tell your wife to watch her insulting mouth. Although the Lydia's family is not a prestigious family, we still have our dignity. Today is a family banquet, and everyone here is family. If others hear about it, it will be a disgrace to our Lydia's family."

The younger sister-in-law felt wronged and almost cried. She never expected Lydia, who had married into the prestigious Bailey family, to speak so sharply.

If it weren't for climbing up the social ladder by marrying into the Bailey family, who would be willing to grovel and please her?

While her niece was busy entertaining Zachary, she had to find a way to show off in front of this old witch.

As she was lost in her thoughts, she looked up and found her husband staring at her coldly. She immediately dared not entertain any crooked thoughts.

Lydia didn't care about her. She picked up her phone and called Winona, "Winona, Mom has had a bit to drink. Can you come and pick me up? It's a family banquet today, and I gave the driver the day off."

"What about Zachary?"

Her face darkened, "Don't mention that bastard to me. I can't stand him right now."

"Alright."

"I'll be waiting here for you, drive slowly on your way here, don't rush."

As soon as she hung up, she turned and dialed Zachary's number, "I made plans to have dinner with Winona and her boyfriend tonight. Do you have any luxury items suitable for men in your safe? Have Dylan bring something over later. It's already official, and as the godmother, I should bring a gift."

Zachary replied, "She doesn't have a boyfriend, so stop making a fuss."

"It was announced in front of the media, how could she not have one? Hurry up and don't be stingy."

Annoyed, Zachary furrowed his brow. "That's not true."

"What do you know? Does she have to inform her ex-husband every time she dates someone? Should I also send you a copy of her ultrasound and blood test results when she gets pregnant in the future? I'm here, and Winona will come to pick me up later. Hurry and have Dylan bring the things to me. If it weren't for the time needed for custom-made luxury items, I wouldn't even want your stuff."

Zachary was speechless.

He suspected that Lydia was pointing fingers and making baseless accusations.

But it was impossible for him to give Austin a gift as Winona's boyfriend. He was already giving him face by not kicking him.

He drove straight there. If he and Austin had a meal, Austin would probably become more than just Winona's boyfriend. He might even upgrade to being her fianc directly.

Zachary and Winona arrived almost at the same time.

She frowned at the man getting out of the car. "Since you're here, why don't you take your aunt back?"

After speaking, she turned and walked towards the parking lot.

Seeing her treating him like a snake, and thinking about how she was leaning on Austin's shoulder in the morning, smiling at the media, a uncontrollable fire rose in his heart. He bit his back teeth and stood there with a cold face.

If you want to go, then go. He didn't care.

Winona opened the car door and was about to get in when a hand reached out from behind and slammed the door shut. "You want to leave as soon as you see me? Or is it that you now prefer Austin's type and don't like me anymore?"

He was throwing a tantrum for no reason, even a bit childish and unreasonable.

Winona lowered her head, silently looking at the hand holding her arm, then raised her gaze to meet his cold, stubborn eyes. "Zachary, are you pursuing me now?"

Otherwise, how could they keep running into each other in such a big city, and every time there would be some kind of connection?

Zachary pursed his lips. He had wanted to say, "If that's what you think, then so be it," but suddenly he remembered Samuel's mocking words, "You're still beating around the bush even when pursuing a woman. You might as well castrate yourself and let Winona chase after you." So he changed his tune and said, "Yes."

Winona curled her lips at him.

Her smile made Zachary's heart flutter. She was already extremely beautiful, fair-skinned, and with long legs. Describing her smile as captivating was not an exaggeration.

If she smiled at herself, did it mean she agreed to reconcile?

He tightened his grip on Winona's arm and pulled her into his embrace. "Let's find some time to..."

Remarry.

"I'm sorry, I refuse your pursuit," Winona interrupted him. "Whether you regret it, or you were provoked by Fiona, or your mind has gone bad to make such a pursuit, I refuse."

Zachary looked at her, the smile on his lips fading before it fully formed. Under her short hair, the gloominess on his face couldn't be hidden. "What did you say?"

Winona wasn't so foolish to think he hadn't heard clearly and wanted her to repeat her words. "Our marriage was a matter of necessity, a mutually beneficial arrangement. I treated you sincerely during our marriage, and although the divorce was painful and regretful, I have never regretted the decision, not then and not now."

Her gaze was calm, and she spoke with such seriousness that Zachary wanted to deceive himself into thinking she was just being stubborn and couldn't do anything about it.

Winona tried to pull her hand out of his palm, but he held on too tightly, causing her pain. She frowned and struggled, "Let go."

Zachary suddenly laughed, loosening his grip but not letting go of her hand. "I've been by your side frequently, so why are you suddenly rejecting me so completely? Were you moved by Austin's actions this morning? Are you planning to accept his pursuit?"
